desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: but I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not.-Luke xxii. 31,32.

Whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him, shall never thirst: but the water which I shall give him, shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.-John iv. 14.

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me; and I give unto them eternal life, and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand: my Father which gave them me, is greater than all, and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hands: I and my Father are one.John x. 27-30.

Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, &c. while I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name, &c. I pray, &c. that thou shouldest keep them from the evil one.-John xvii. 11, 12. 15.

you, but such as is common (or moderate) to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able, but will, with the temptation, also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.-1 Cor. x. 13.

Now he which establisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God; who hath also sealed us, &c.-2 Cor. i. 21, 22.

I besought the Lord, &c. and he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee; for my strength is made perfect in weakness; most gladly therefore will I rather glory in mine infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me: for when I am weak, then am I strong.-2 Cor. xii. 8-10.

Be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might: put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand, &c.-Eph. vi. 10, 11. 13. iii. 16.

Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you, will perform (or finish) it, until the day of Jesus Christ.Phil. i. 6.

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation or distress? &c. nay, in all these things weare more than conquerors, through Every where, and in all things, I him that loved us: for I am per- am instructed, both to be full, and to suaded, that neither death nor life, be hungry, &c. I can do all things &c. shall be able to separate us from through Christ which strengtheneth the love of God which is in Christ me.-Phil. iv. 12, 13. Jesus our Lord.—Rom. viii. 35. 37-39.

Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? yea, he shall be holden up; for God is able to make him stand.-Rom. xiv. 4.

The God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. Now to him that is of power to establish you, according to my gospel, &c. To God, only wise, &c.-Rom. xvi. 20.

Jesus Christ, who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ; God is faithful, &c. 1 Cor. i. 7-9.

There hath no temptation taken

And I pray God, your whole spirit, and soul, and body, be preserved blameless, unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ; faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it. -1 Thess. v. 23, 24.

Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, &c. establish you in every good word and work.-2 Thess. ii. 16, 17.

The Lord is faithful, who shall establish you, and keep you from evil.

2 Thess. iii. 3.

I know whom I have believed: and I am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.-2 Tim. i. 12.

No man stood with me, &c. notwithstanding the Lord stood with me,

and strengthened me, &c. and the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom.-2 Tim.iv.16-18. To an inheritance, &c. reserved in heaven for you (or for us) who are kept by the power of God, through faith unto salvation.-1 Pet. i. 4, 5. But the God of all grace who hath called us, &c. after that ye have suffered awhile, make you perfect: establish, strengthen, settle you.-1 Pet. v. 10.

Whosoever is born of God, doth not commit sin, for his seed remaineth in him and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.-1 John iii. 9. v.18. Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because, greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.Ì John iv. 4.

Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory, &c. to the only wise God, &c. -Jude 24, 25.

SECT. VI. God in Christ, doth command, invite, and encourage, by Promises, to come to him for spiritual Life and Strength; to bring forth Fruit, and persevere, and to cast our Care upon him.

THE Lord, he it is that doth go befo thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee; fear not, neither be dismayed.-Deut. xxxi. 8.

Wait on the Lord, be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart; wait, I say, on the Lord.Ps. xxvii. 14.

wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding, &c. She is more precious than rubies, and all the things thou canst desire, are not to be compared unto her. Then shalt thou walk in the way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble.-Prov. iii, 13. 15.23.

I wisdom, &c. counsel is mine, and sound wisdom; I am understanding: I have strength; by me kings reign, &c. I love them that love me, and those that seek me early shall find me. Riches and honour are with me; yea, durable riches and righteousness. My fruit is better than gold, yea, than fine gold; and my revenue than choice silver. I lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of judgment; that I may cause those that love me to inherit substance, and I will fill their treasures, &c. Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children; for blessed are they that keep my ways. Hear instruction and be wise, and refuse it not: blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors: for whoso findeth me, findeth life.-Prov. viii. 1.12.14, 15.17-21.32-35. ix. 1-6.

When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue faileth for thirst; I the Lord will hear them; I the God of Israel will not forsake them. I will open rivers in high places, and fountains in the midst of the valleys: I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water.Isa. xli. 17, 18. Ps. lxix. 3.

I said not unto the seed of Jacob, Seek ye my face in vain, &c. Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth, for I am God.—Isa. xlv. 19. 22.

Who is among you that feareth the Lord, &c. that walketh in darkness, and hath no light? Let him trust in the name of the Lord, and stay upon his God.-Isa. 1. 10.

Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee.-Ps.lv.22. Wisdom crieth without, she uttereth her voice in the streets, &c. How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? &c. Turn ye at my reproof. Behold, I will pour out my Spirit unto you; I will make known my words unto you.-Prov. i. 20-23. Ho! every one that thirsteth, come viii. 1—11. ye to the waters: and he that hath Happy is the man that findeth no money; come ye, buy and eat;

yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price: wherefore do you spend your money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? Hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness: incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your souls shall live: and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David. Seek ye the Lord while he may be found; call ye upon him while he is near: let the wicked forsake his way, &c. and let him return unto the Lord. Isa. lv. 1-3. 6, 7.

I have seen thy adulteries, &c. Wilt thou not be made clean? when shall it once be?-Jer. xiii. 27.

As I live, saith the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, &c. Turn ye, turn ye, from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?—Ezek. xxxiii. 11. xviii. 32.

O Israel, thou hast destroyed thyself; but in me is thine help.-Hosea xiii. 9.

Turn ye to the strong hold, ye prisoners of hope.-Zech. ix. 12.

Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.-Matt. v. 6.

But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you. --Matt. vi. 33.

The whole need not a physician, but they that are sick, &c. For I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.-Matt. ix. 12,13.

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest; take my yoke upon you, and learn of me, &c. and ye shall find rest unto your souls: for my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.Matt. xi. 28-30.

The parable of the invitation to the marriage-supper, of which many made light.-Matt. xxii. 1, &c. Luke xiv. 17, &c.

O Jerusalem, &c. How often would have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not? &c.-Matt. xxiii. 37.

The Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.Luke xix. 10.

Jesus said unto the woman of Samaria, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink: thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water, &c. When he was converting her, he said, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.-John iv. 10. 32. 34.

Ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.--John v. 40. Luke xiv. 17-20.

Jesus said, Labour not for the meat that perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you, &c. My Father giveth you the true bread from heaven; for the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world, &c. And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life; he that cometh to me shall never hunger, and he that believeth on me shall never thirst, &c. Him that cometh to me, I will in no wise cast out; for I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me: and this is the Father's will which hath sent me, That of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, &c.

John vi. 27. 32, 33. 35. 37-39. In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me and drink, &c.-John vii. 37, 38.

Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. -John xiv. 1.

Abide in me, and I in you: as the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, &c. no more can ye, except ye abide in me, &c. He that abideth in me, and

I in him, the same bringeth forth of the fountain of the water of life much fruit, &c. If ye abide in me, freely.-Rev. xxi. 6. and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.-John xv. 4, 5. 7.

He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all: how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?-Rom. viii. 32.

Let him that is athirst, come: and whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.-Rev. xxii. 17.

How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation.-Heb. ii. 3.

tion with thanksgiving, let your request be made known unto God: and the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts, &c. Phil. iv. 6, 7.

I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all long-suffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.-1 Tim. i. 16.

God our Saviour, who will have all men to be saved, and to come to the knowledge of the truth.-1 Tim. ii. 3, 4.

Let us run with patience the race that is set before us; looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. Heb. xii. 1, 2.

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask it of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not, and it shall be given him.-James i. 5, 6.

Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God, commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator. -1 Pet. iv. 19.

Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, &c. casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.-1 Pet. v. 6, 7.

I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, &c. and anoint thine eyes with eye-salve, that thou mayest see. Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.-Rev. iii. 18. 20.

What shall we do that we might work

the Works of God? Jesus saith unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.-John vi. 28, 29.

mised to them.-Luke xi. 13.

He shall baptize you with the Holy

Ghost, &c.-Mark i. 8.

JESUS, &c. having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, hath shed forth this which ye now see and hear.--Acts ii. 32, 33.

And they came every one, &c. whom his spirit made willing, and they brought the Lord's offering.-Exod. xxxv. 21.

Thou gavest also thy good Spirit to instruct them.-Neh. ix. 20.

Renew a right (or constant) spirit within me, &c. and take not thy Holy Spirit from me, &c. uphold me with thy free Spirit.-Ps. li. 10-12.

Awake, O north wind, and come thou south wind, and blow upon my garden, &c.—Cant. iv. 16.

He that is left in Zion, and he that remaineth in Jerusalem, shall be called holy, &c. when the Lord shall have washed away the filth of the daughter of Zion, &c. by the spirit of judgment, and by the spirit of burning.-Isa. iv. 3, 4.

I will pour my Spirit upon thy seed, &c. and they shall spring up as among the grass, as willows by the watercourses. Isa. xliv. 3, 4.

The Comforter, the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.-John xiv. 16-18. 26.

I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now: howbeit, when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth, &c. he shall not speak of himself, but, &c. he shall receive of mine, and shew it unto you.-John xvi. 7, 8. 12-14.

I will pour upon the house of David, &c. the spirit of grace, and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, &c. Zech. xii. 10. Eph. vi. 18. Jude 20. When they deliver you up; take no thought how, or what ye shall speak, &c. for it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you.-Matt. x. 19, 20. Luke xii. 12. xvii. 20, 21,

If I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.-Matt. xii. 28.

Jesus said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation (or with outward show), &c. Behold the kingdom of God is within you.-Luke xvii. 20, 21. Mark iv. 26, 27.

Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot see the kingdom of God: that which is born of the flesh, is flesh and that which is born of the Spirit, is spirit.-John iii. 5, 6.

They were not able to resist the wisdom and Spirit by which Stephen spake.-Acts vi. 10.

The love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.-Rom. v. 5.

If the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you: he that raised up Christ from the dead, shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you, &c. If ye, through the Spirit, do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. It is the Spirit that quickeneth, For as many as are led by the Spirit the flesh profiteth nothing, &c.-John of God, they are the sons of God. vi. 63. 2 Cor. iii. 6.
