Old things

The spirit

I AM tired of strife, and I am tired of bigotry; and I wish they were banished from the world. I am tired of hearing people clamour for the opinions and traditions of men; while they slight the doctrines and commandments of Christ. I am grieved to see men contending for metaphysical trifles, while temperance and truth and charity are trampled under foot. But better days are coming. The religion of Christ will not be always thus dishonoured. The leaven of Gospel truth is working in the churches, and a blessed reformation is coming near. are passing away, and all things are becoming new. of freedom and truth and charity is grappling with its enemies; it is renewing its strength even in its conflicts, and it will gain a glorious victory. There are a remnant who love the truth, and who regard the glory of God and the salvation of mankind above all things, and the number of this blessed remnant is increasing. These shall form the germ of a new world, and they shall become the instruments of regenerating all things. To this remnant of faithful ones, in whatever sect or country they may be found, who are prepared, for the cause of truth and for the welfare of mankind, to forego the honour that cometh from man, and to expose themselves to want, and bonds, and death,―to this remnant of faithful ones, who live to learn and propagate the truth as it is in Jesus, whose greatest joy it is to please their God, and bless their fellow men, this volume is inscribed by their devoted friend,

JOSEPH BARKER.
