We have the testimony of these men and of
Thomas: how ought we to receive it?

30 HAS John told all the mighty works of Jesus? Before whom did he do these things?

Has John told all that is sufficient for us to know? 31 WHAT purpose had he in writing what he did? What shall those who believe obtain?

Have you reason to expect you shall obtain that?
If you do not believe, what must be your state?
Chap. 3:18.

What are some of the evidences named in Scripture that one believes on, and loves Jesus Christ?

LESSON XL.

Jesus meets with and instructs his Disciples.

CH. XXI. 1-14.

1 After these things Jesus shewed himself again to the disciples at the sea of Tiberias: and on this wise shewed he himself.

2 There were together Simon Peter, and Thomas called Didymus, and Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, and the sons of Zebedee, and two other of his disciples.

3 Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing.

4 But when the morning was now come, Jesus stood on the shore; but the disciples knew not that it was Jesus.

5 Then Jesus saith unto them, Children, have ye any meat? They answered him, No.

6 And he said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes.

7 Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved saith unto Peter, It is the Lord.

Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt his fisher's coat unto him, (for he was naked,) and did cast himself into the sea.

8 And the other disciples came in a little ship, (for they were not far from land, but as it were two hundred cubits,) dragging the net with fishes.

9 As soon then as they were come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid thereon, and bread.

10 Jesus saith unto them, Bring of the "fish which ye have now caught.

II Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land full of great fishes, a hundred and fifty and three: and for all there were so many, yet was not the net broken.

12 Jesus saith unto them, Come and dine. And none of the disciples durst ask him, Who art thou? knowing that it was the Lord.

13 Jesus then cometh, and taketh bread, and giveth them, and fish likewise. 14 This is now the third time that Jesus shewed himself to his disciples, after that he was risen from the dead.

On what day of the week was the last meeting of Jesus with his disciples?

What one who was before absent did he then find among them?

How did he establish the faith of that disciple? 1 AT what place does he now meet with his disciples?

What number of times had he already been seen by some of them?

2 How many of the disciples were together?

Who were the sons of Zebedee? Matt. 4:21.
In which division of Palestine was the sea of
Tiberias?

At whose direction had the disciples come to
Galilee? Matt. 28: 10.

They had not commenced preaching: for what
did they wait?- Luke 24: 49.

3 As they waited, in what business did they engage? Who proposed they should thus employ themselves?

You see these men were not idle: what should we learn from their example?

With what success did they meet?

4 IN the morning who appeared? Where did he stand?

It was early twilight: did the disciples recognize him?

5 Br what affectionate appellation did he address them?

What inquiry did he make?

What was their reply?

6 WHAT direction did he give them?

What assurance did he give them?

Then what did they do?

What was their success?

What may such as follow the directions of Jesus always expect?

7 WHO was the first to speak?

To whom?
What did he say?

What have you noticed, in preceding lessons, in regard to these disciples?

What did Peter then do?

Was this what you might have expected from
Peter?

Would you expect the same thing from John? –
Why not?

On what other occasions have you noticed the rashness of Peter?

8 How did the other disciples come to the shore? Christians may differ in their natural dispositions and characters: in what particular will they all resemble each other?

How far were the disciples from land?

What did they bring with them?

9 WHAT did they find when they came to the

shore?

What was on the fire?

10 THEN What did Jesus bid them do?

11 WHO Seemed readiest to obey?

What did he do?

How many fishes were in the net ?
Of what size were they?

What is spoken of as wonderful ?

12 WHAT did Jesus then invite his disciples to do? How did they feel?

Whom did they feel assured he was?

13 THEN what did Jesus do?

14 How many times had Jesus and his disciples met after his resurrection?

Do you think it possible they could have been deceived in regard to the identity of their Master?

Is the resurrection of Jesus an important truth in the gospel, or not?

What does Paul say of this?-1 Cor. 15: 14.

Who alone can be profited by his death and

resurrection?

Are you of that number?

GENERAL

QUESTION.

Will you tell me all the names of children and young persons who have died happily, trusting in a risen Savior, whom you have known, or of whom you have read?

LESSON XLI.

Jesus continues his Conversation with his Disciples.

CH. xxi. 15-25.

15 So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord: thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.

16 He saith to him again the second time, Simon son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord: thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

17 He saith unto him the third time, Simon son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unfo him the third time, Lovest thou me ? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

18 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldedst: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not.

19 This spake he, signifying by what

20 Then Peter, turning about, seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved, following (which also leaned on his breast at supper, and said, Lord, which is he that beirayeth thee?)

21 Peter seeing him, saith to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do?

22 Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me.

23 Then went this saying abroad among the brethren, that that disciple should not die yet Jesus said not unto him, He shall not die; but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee?

24 This is the disciple which testifieth of these things, and wrote these things; and we know that his testimony is true. 25 And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.

AT what place had Jesus met his disciples? How many times had they met since he was crucified?

How were they engaged at the close of the lesson?

15 WHEN they had dined, whom did Jesus address? What did he ask him?

What comparison did he make?

Of what did this probably remind Peter?—
Matt. 26:33.

What reply did Peter make?

How did he appeal to Jesus?

What direction did Jesus give to Peter?

What did he mean by his lambs?

Are you numbered in his fold?

16 WHAT did Jesus then say?

What was Peter's reply?

What duty did Jesus enjoin on him?

17 FOR what was this question three times repeated? To what were the number of assurances which he gave Jesus of his love equal?

How did Peter feel at this time?
How did he now appeal to Jesus?

To whom did he thus make him equal in knowl-
edge?

Did the apostles consider their Master worthy of worship? Acts 1:24.

Then what charge did Peter receive?

How did Peter deliver this charge to others?

1 Pet. 5:2, 3.

18 PETER had asserted his love for his Master: how does Jesus tell him it should be tried?

How had it been with him in youth?

How was it to be in old age?

These would be the consequences of his love for Jesus: does Peter appear to shrink from them? 19 He had told Peter of bonds which he must suffer: of what else did he warn him?

Jesus intimated to Peter that he should be crucified, as himself had been: whose example did he bid him follow in his suffering?
