misery of life will very much depend thereupon, used by one

A Prayer for the King, and all Rulers and Magiftrates.

Lmighry Lord, by whom kings do reign and princes

decree justice, and we are commanded to pray for kings, and for all that are in authority, I both in duty and inclination become a petitioner to thy Divine Majesty, for GEORGEthy servant, our king, and for all our governours. Give thy judgments, O God ! unto the king, that he may judge thy people righteously, and break their enemies in pieces. Bless him with the spirit of government, and make him wise as an angel of God, to punish the wicked and to reward the good. Make him sensible of his duty to thee, and his subjects obedient to him for thy fake, O God. Fill his heart with thy fear and love, that being a ruler after thy heart, the righteous may flourish in his days, and abundance of peace, with the liberty and free profession of the gospel. Defend and preserve him. Bless his arms with success and victory; his councils with wisdom, and his government with happiness and prosperity. 'In the midst of danger keep him as the apple of thine eye, and hide him under the shadow of thy wings, that no mischief may befall him, nor any,

wickedness come near to hurt him. Grant that he may long continue to rule and reign for thee here in this earthly kingdom, till he come to live and reign with thee in thy heavenly kingdom for evermore,

Bless, O Lord, all our rulers with spirits suitable to their Stations; and make them a terror only to evil doers, and the praise of them that do well, that they may not bear the sword in vain ; but curb and suppress all vice and ungodliness, and defend and encourage whatever is holy, just and righteous. Endue them with wisdom to underttand, with hearts to consider, and with abilities to repair the breaches, and to redress the grievances of all such as come before them; that under the protection of the powers protected by thee, and under such rulers, as are guided by thy word, we may lead quiet and peaceable lives in all godliness and honesty all the days of our lives. Grant therefore, that all rulers may so govern, and subjects fo obey, that we may always deserve thy heavenly grace, assistance, protection and salvation, which we ask in the name, and for the sake and righteousness of thy Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord, and Saviour. Amen.
