to apprehend Thee; ears to hear Thy voice; eyes ever intent to see Thee. Have pity upon us, O Lord, and look down upon us from the throne of Thy majesty; scatter the darkness of our souls, and enlighten us with the beams of Thy Holy Spirit.

Give us wisdom to discern between good and evil; that we may know the things which belong to our peace. Above all, we

entreat of Thee full and free remission of all our sins; for Thou, O Lord Jesus, hast died to purchase it. May we, therefore, find effectual propitiation and free access to Thee, in all time of necessity and distress of soul; in the hour of death, and in the day of judgment. Lord, we pray Thee to bestow upon us everlasting life, not for our merits, but for Thy manifold and great mercy: upon which we cast ourselves, as the only refuge and hope of sinners. Lord Jesus, hear us; heavenly Father, be merciful unto us; Holy Spirit, vouchsafe to comfort us; and to Thy name, O blessed and holy Trinity, shall be praise and glory for ever and ever.

Amen.

TUESDAY EVENING.

O THOU who art the Only Life; Thou by whom all things live; Thou biddest us to seek Thee; and art ready to be found. Thou biddest us to knock, and art ready to open. To depart from Thee is to fall into eternal death; to return to Thee is salvation; to abide in Thee is security and strength. To know Thee is life; to serve Thee is perfect freedom; to praise and adore Thee is the joy of Thy people. We worship Thee, we glorify Thee, we give thanks to Thee for Thy great glory, O holy Lord God Almighty.

We beseech Thee, O Thou ever blessed Trinity, to come unto us, to abide with us, to make these our hearts a habitation for Thy Divine Majesty. O Father Almighty; O Lord Jesus the Son of the Father; O Holy Spirit who proceedest from the Father and the Son, keep, we pray Thee, these creatures

of Thy hand; who put their trust in Thee, and take refuge in Thy mercy. Guard us

with Thy mercy and Thy power, now and at all times, and so keep us from evil both in body and soul, that our enemy may find no way of approach to hurt us.

Thou, O our Father, art the Guardian and Defender of all who trust in Thee. Without Thy protection we can find no safety; without Thy Almighty power we cannot resist the might of those who seek to do us harm. Thou art God, and there is none beside Thee; Thou art great and doest wondrous things; honour and praise are Thine.

To Thee the lowly in heart, to Thee the souls of the righteous, to Thee angels and archangels, fall down in continual adoration. Help us, O Lord our God, our Life and our Strength, to praise and celebrate Thee, although we be unworthy. Shed abroad Thy love in our hearts; open Thou our lips; may our souls be filled with Thy praise; and our tongues sing of Thy glory.

Grant us the grace of Thy blessed Spirit, that we may continue stedfast in the faith;

and bring forth fruits agreeable to the same; that so, by true faith and holy obedience, Thou mayest bring us finally to everlasting salvation, through the merits of our Lord and Saviour Unto whom, with the Father and the ever-blessed Spirit, be all honour and glory, world without end. Amen.

WEDNESDAY MORNING.

O LORD

our heavenly Father, who knowest our necessities before we ask, we confess unto Thee our sins, and acknowledge Thy mercy, beseeching Thee to free us wholly, and to perfect that Thou hast begun, that we, ceasing to be miserable in ourselves, may be blessed in Thee.

O Lord our God, give ear unto our prayer, and let Thy mercy hearken unto our desires. We would offer unto Thee the service of our thoughts and tongues; do Thou give unto us that which we may present unto Thee. We are poor and needy, but Thou art rich unto all that call upon Thee.

Cleanse, we beseech Thee, both our hearts and lips from all presumption and falsehood. Let Thy Scriptures be our pure delight, and give us grace so to read them and speak of
