2 Great God ! mine eyes with pleasure look
On the dear volume of thy book;
And read his name who died for me.
Here, the fair tree of knowledge grows;-
No danger dwells therein.
Where wit and reason fail ;
Through all this gloomy vale.
Nor I forsake the happy road
A Saviour seen in the Scriptures.
To thee its grateful tribute bring;
My tongue perform its solemn vow.
3 There, what delightful truths I read!
There, I behold the Saviour bleed :
Revives my heart, and checks my fear. 4 There Jesus bids my sorrows cease,
And gives my lab'ring conscience peace,
And points to mansions in the sky. 6 For love like this, Oh ! let my song,
Through endless years, thy praise prolong;
C. M. 5.
Dispel the shades of night;
The healing beams of light.
Restores our wandering feet;
To joys divinely sweet.
In all their radiant blaze;
L. M. 6.
The Blessings of the new Covenant.
And truth is drawn in fairest lines. 2 Here, sinners of an humble frame
May taste his grace, and learn his name;
The wisdom, power and grace of God.
4 Oh! grant us grace, almighty Lord'!
To read and mark thy holy word,
And by its holy precepts live.
Close to my heart, and near mine eye,
A written Revelation.
Thy head, my Saviour, and my Lord !
And writ the blessings in thy word.
Some solid ground to rest upon;
Till we apply to Christ alone.
How wise and holy thy commands!
How firm our hope and comfort stands !
Assault my faith, with treacherous art,
The Power of Truth.
Sent to the nations from above;
What his almighty grace can do.
To heal diseases of the mind;-
Restore the ruined creature, man.
Sinners obey the voice, and live;
4 May but this grace my soul renew,
1 THERE is a God!-all nature speaks,
Throughout the world's extended frame,
His mighty Maker's glorious name.
Creation and Providence.
1 LORD! when my raptured thought surveys
All nature joins to teach thy praise,
2 Where'er I turn my gazing eyes,
3 On me thy providence hath shone
4 All-bounteous Lord! thy grace impart;
Thy gifts, with ever-grateful heart,
The garments he assumes
Perfections of God's Government.
His wrath and justice stand
And where his love resolv es to bless,
And breaks their cursed designs:
Strong is his arm-and shall fulfil
4 And can this mighty King
Of glory condescend,-
And will be write his name,
My Father and my Friend?
I love his name,-I love his word:
God, the Creator.
1 ETERNAL Wisdom! thee we praise,
Thee, the creation sings;
With thy loved name, rocks, hills, and seas
And heaven's high palace rings.
2 How wide thy hand hath spread the sky!
Tinged with a blue of heavenly dye,
3 Thy glories blaze all nature round,
Through skies, and seas, and solid ground,
1 Infinite strength, and equal skill,
