CHAP. IX.-VER. 1.

Καὶ ἔλεγεν αὐτοῖς· ̓Αμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν, ὅτι εἰσί τινες τῶν ὧδε ἑστηκότων, οἵτινες οὐ μὴ γεύσωνται θανάτου, ἕως ἂν ἴδωσι τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ Θεοῦ ἐληλυθυῖαν ἐν δυ- | νάμει.

a And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power.

VER. 2.

Καὶ μεθ ̓ ἡμέρας ἓξ παραλαμβάνει ὁ Ἰησοῦς τὸν Πέτρον, καὶ τὸν Ἰάκωβον, καὶ τὸν Ἰωάννην, καὶ ἀναφέρει αὐτοὺς εἰς ὄρος ὑψηλὸν κατ' ἰδίαν μόνους· καὶ μετεμορφώθη ἔμπροσθεν αὐτῶν.

3 And after six days Jesus taketh with

him Peter, and James, and John, and leadeth them up into an high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them.

VER. 3.

Καὶ τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ ἐγένετο στίλβοντα, λευκὰ λίαν ὡς χιὼν, οἷα γναφεὺς ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς οὐ δύναται λευκᾶναι.

And his raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them.

VER. 4.

Καὶ ὤφθη αὐτοῖς Ἠλίας σὺν Μωσεί καὶ ἦσαν συλλαλοῦντες τῷ Ἰησοῦ.

And there appeared unto them Elias with Moses : and they were talking with

Jesus.

VER. 5.

Καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς ὁ Πέτρος λέγει τῷ Ἰησοῦ· Ραββὶ, καλόν ἐστιν ἡμὰς ὧδε εἶναι· καὶ ποιήσωμεν σκηνὰς τρείς, σοὶ μίαν, καὶ Μωσεῖ μίαν, και Ἠλίᾳ μίαν.

a But they understood not that say ing, and were afraid to ask him,ver. 32. Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord. This shall not be unto thee, Matt. xvi. 22. And they understood none of these things: and this saying was hid from them, neither knew they the things which were spoken, Luke xviii. 34. Then he said unto them, Ο fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory? xxiv. 25, 26. And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.

Ὁ δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς, εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Ἠλίας μὲν ἐλθὼν πρῶτον, ἀποκαθιστᾷ πάντα· καὶ πῶς γέγραπται ἐπὶ τὸν υἱὸν τοῦ ἀνΘρῶπου, ἵνα πολλὰ πάθῃ, καὶ ἐξουδενωθῇ.

And he answered and told them, Elias verily cometh first, and restoreth all things; and how it is written of the Son of man, that he must suffer many things, and a be set at nought.

Καὶ ἐλθὼν πρὸς τοὺς μαθητὰς, εἶδεν ὄχλον πολὺν περὶ αὐτοὺς, καὶ γραμματεῖς συζητοῦντας αὐτοῖς.

a And when he came to his disciples, he saw a great multitude about them, and the Scribes questioning with them.

a And it came to pass, that on the next day, when they were come down from the hill much people met him.

VER. 15.

Καὶ εὐθέως πᾶς ὁ ὄχλος ἰδὼν αὐτὸν ἐξε θαμβήθη, καὶ προστρέχοντες σπάζοντο αὐτόν.

And straightway all the people, when they beheld him, were greatly amazed, and running to him saluted him.

VER. 16.

Καὶ ἐπηρώτησε τοὺς γραμματεῖς· Τί συζητεῖτε πρὸς αὐτούς;

VER. 17.

Καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς εἷς ἐκ τοῦ ὄχλου, εἶπε· Διδάσκαλε, ἤνεγκα τὸν υἱόν μου πρός σε, ἔχοντα πνεῦμα ἄλαλον·

a And one of the multitude answered and suid, Master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit ;

VER. 18.

Καὶ ὅπου ἂν αὐτὸν καταλάβῃ, ῥήσσει αὐτόν· καὶ ἀφρίζει, καὶ τρίζει τοὺς ὀδόντας αὑτοῦ, καὶ ξηραίνεται· καὶ εἶπον τοῖς μας θηταῖς σου ἵνα αὐτὸ ἐκβάλωσι, καὶ οὐκ ἴσχυσαν.

And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him: and he foameth, and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out; and they could

not.

VER. 19.

Ὁ δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς αὐτῷ, λέγει· Ω γενεὰ ἄπιστος, ἕως πότε πρὸς ὑμᾶς ἔσομαι ; ἕως πότε ἀνέξομαι ὑμῶν; φέρετε αὐτὸν πρός με.

VER. 20.

Καὶ ἤνεγκαν αὐτὸν πρὸς αὐτόν· καὶ ἰδὼν αὐτὸν, εὐθέως τὸ πνεῦμα ἐσπάραξεν αὐτόν· καὶ πέσων ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς, ἐκυλίετο ἀφρίζων.

And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway a the spirit tare him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed, foaming.

VER. 21.

Καὶ ἐπηρώτησε τὸν πατέρα αὐτοῦ, Πόσος χρόνος ἐστὶν, ὡς τοῦτο γέγονεν αὐτῷ ; Ὁ δὲ εἶπε· Παιδιόθεν.

And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, of a child.

VER. 22.

Καὶ πολλάκις αὐτὸν καὶ εἰς πῦρ ἔβαλε καὶ εἰς ὕδατα, ἵνα ἀπολέσῃ αὐτόν· ἀλλ ̓

Ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς, κρατήσας αὐτὸν τῆς χειρὸς, ἤγειρεν αὐτὸν, καὶ ἀνέστη.

But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up ; and he arose.

Καὶ εἰσελθόντα αὐτὸν εἰς οἶκον, οἱ μας θηταὶ αὐτοῦ ἐπηρώτων αὐτὸν κατ' ἰδίαν· Ὅτι ἡμεῖς οὐκ ἠδυνήθημεν ἐκβαλεῖν αὐτό;

a And when he was come into the house,

VER. 29.

Καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Τοῦτο τὸ γένος ἐν οὐδενὶ δύναται ἐξελθεῖν, εἰ μὴ ἐν προσευχῇ καὶ νηστείᾳ·

And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.

VER. 30.

Καὶ ἐκεῖθεν ἐξελθόντες παρεπορεύοντο διὰ τῆς Γαλιλαίας· καὶ οὐκ ἤθελεν ἵνα τις γνώ.

And they departed thence, and passed through Galilee ; and he would not that any man should know it.

VER. 31.

Εδίδασκε γὰρ τοὺς μαθητὰς αὑτοῦ, καὶ ἔλεγεν αὐτοῖς Ὅτι ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου παραδίδοται εἰς χεῖρας ἀνθρώπων, καὶ ἀποκτενοῦσιν αὐτόν· καὶ ἀποκτανθεὶς, τῇ τρίτῃ ἡμέρᾳ ἀναστήσεται.

VER. 26.

Καὶ κράξαν, καὶ πολλὰ σπαράξαν αὐτὸν, ἐξῆλθε· καὶ ἐγένετο ὡσεὶ νεκρός, ὥστε πολλοὺς λέγειν ὅτι ἀπέθανεν.

And the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him: and he was as one dead ; insomuch that many said, He is dead,

VER. 32.

Οἱ δὲ ἠγνόουν τὸ ῥῆμα, καὶ ἐφοβοῦντο αὐτὸν ἐπερωτῆσαι.

But they held their peace: afor by the way they had disputed among themselves, who should be the greatest.

Καὶ καθίσας ἐφώνησε τοὺς δώδεκα, καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς· Εἴτις θέλει πρῶτος εἶναι, ἔσται πάντων ἔσχατος, καὶ πάντων διά

Μόνος.

And he sat down, and called the twelve, and saith unto them, a If any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all.

Καὶ λαβὼν παιδίον, ἔστησεν αὐτὸ ἐν μέσῳ αὐτῶν· καὶ ἐναγκαλισάμενος αὐτὸ, εἶπεν αὐτοῖς·

̓Απεκρίθη δὲ αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰωάννης, λέγων· Διδάσκαλε, εἴδομέν τινα ἐν τῷ ὀνόματί σου ἐκβάλλοντα δαιμόνια, ὃς οὐκ ἀκολουθεῖ

ἡμῖν· καὶ ἐκωλύσαμεν αὐτὸν, ὅτι οὐκ ἀκολουθεῖ ἡμῖν.

And John answered him, saying, a Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followet

not us.

a And there ran a young man, and told Moses, and said, Eldad and Medad do prophesy in the camp. And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Moses, one of his young men, answered and said, My lord Moses, forbid them. And Moses said unto him, Enviest thou for my sake? would God that all the LORD's people were put his Spirit upon them! Numb. xi. prophets, and that the LORD would

27-29. And John answered and said, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name; and we forbad him, because he followed not with us, Luke ix. 49. And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your sons cast them out? xi. 19.
