In Oppofition to the Strength the Heathens supposed these Agents could give to Men in War, &c. they make Jehovah Aleim their General, Giver of Force, &c. Pfal. Ix. 9, Who will bring me into the strong City; who will lead me into Edom? Wilt not thou, O Aleim, which hadft caft us off ; and thou, O Aleim, which didst not go out with our Armies? Give us Help from Trouble; for vain is the Help of Man. Through the Alcim we shall do valiantly; for he it is that shall tread down our Enemies. In Reproach to those who trusted in these Powers, Ifa. xxxiv. 4, And all the Hoft of the Names fhall be diffolv'd, and the Names fhall be rolled together as a Scroll, and all their Hoft fhall fall down as a Leaf falleth off from the Vine, and as a falling Fig from the Fig-Tree.

Ib. xix. 8, And if Jehovah thy Aleim enlarge thy Coast, as he hath fworn to thy Fathers, and give thee all the Land which he hath promis'd to give unto thy Fathers- Then fhalt thou, &c. So Gen. xxvi. 22, And he call'd the Name of it Rehoboth, and he faid, For now Jchovah hath made Room for us, and we hall be fruitful in the Land. So in the Promife of the Kingdom of Chrift, Ifa. liv. 2, Enlarge the Place of thy Tent, &c. So in Deliverances, temporal or fpiritual, PJ. iv. 1, Thou hast enlarged me when I was in Difirefs. Ezek. xxviii. 2, And thou haft faid, I am a God; I fit in the Seat of the Alcim, in the midft of the Seas: Tet thou art a Man, and not God, tho' thou fet thy Heart as the Heart of the Aleim, &c. ver. 9, Wilt thou fay before him that flayeth thee, Iam Aleim? But thou shalt be a Man, and no God, in the Hand of him that flayeth thee. As the Word a, or, when apply'd to what they took for God, fignifies a Temple, Hof. viii. 14, For Ifrael hath forgotten his Maker, and buildeth Temples; and Judah hath multiplied fenced Cities: But I will fend a Fire upon his Cities, and it fall devour the Palaces thereof.
