employments of Heaven? In what part of Scripture do we read most on this subject, Susan? Susan.-In the Revelations. T-Much is said about Heaven, in the Revelations-we will read two passages. Look for the 5th chapter, and read in turn from the 9th to the 14th verse. v. 9. "And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the Book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood, out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; v. 10. And hast made us unto our God Kings and Priests; and we shall reign on the earth. v. 11. And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands; v. 12. Saying with a loud voice, worthy is the Lamb that was slain, to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing. v. 13. And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto Him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever: v. 14. And the four beasts (living creatures) said, Amen.. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever." See, my dear children, what wonders there are in God's Book. Could they have entered into the hearts of men, unless they had been revealed? Could you have thought of such things? Now read in turn, Rev. vii. 9, to the end. F. 9. After this I beheld, and lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands; v. 10. And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb. v. 11. And all the angels stood round about the throne, and about the elders and the four beasts, (living creatures,) and fell before the throne on their faces, and worshipped God, v. 12. Saying, Amen: Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honour, and power, and might, be unto our God for ever and ever, Amen. v. 13. And one of the elders, answered, saying unto me, what are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they? v, 14. And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb, v. 15. Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve Him day and night in his temple and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them. v. 16. They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat. v, 17. For the Lamb, which is in the midst of the throne, shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes." 66 T.And is not this happiness very great? Do you think those who have come out of great tribulation" regret their tribulation? What do you think will be the greatest happiness of Heaven? What do you think, Francis? Francis, I think seeing all those again whom I have loved on earth, never to part from then any more. My mother is gone to Heaven; she loved and followed Jesus Christ. TAnd what do you think, Thomas? Thomas.-I think never to suffer any more pain. I was very ill last month. T.-And what do you think, William ? William. I think seeing all the angels, and hearing their harps. T.-And what do you think, Henry? Henry.—I think singing with the Angels. T.-And you, Susan? Susan.-I think all together. T.-My dear child, tell me what you mean by all together? Susan.-I mean all the things put together. T.-You mean that you think all the things we have spoken of, will help to make you happy, or form parts of your happiness. Yes: my dear children, all you have mentioned will form parts of your happiness; I hope every child amongst you, will go to Heaven; and then you will see all those again whom you have loved on earth, never to part from them any more: you will be for ever free from pain and suffering: you will see the angels and hear their songs, you will sing with the angels; but we have not yet spoken of the greatest happiness of Heaven. We have said that the blessed spirits and souls of men are in Heaven; with whom do they dwell?-Is not Heaven filled with the glory of God? Children all together.-Yes: Heaven is filled with the glory of God. T.-And does not Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, dwell in Heaven? Children all together.-Yes: Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, dwells in Heaven. T.-Can there be any happiness like being for ever with God and the Lamb? repeat together. Let us C. and T.-There can be no happiness like being for ever with God and the Lamb. Now, pause a moment-Can those who do not believe in Jesus Christ be in Heaven? Can those who are not like Jesus Christ be in Heaven? Think of what we said in the first lesson. Is the state of heaven holy-I mean are all who dwell there holy? Read Rev. xxi. 27. Then, my dear children, in what state must you be to go to Heaven? If you do not love God here, if you do not love prayer, and praise, and the holy presence of God, you could not be happy in heaven.—I will read to you a few words from the 16th Psalm: "In Thy presence is fulness of joy, at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.” LESSON II. JESUS CHRIST IS THE WAY TO HEAVEN. Teacher.-What words do you find written upon the board, this morning, Henry? Henry.-Jesus Christ is the way to Heaven. T.-Read it all together. C.-Jesus Christ, &c. T-Why do you think I have written these words, William? William.-I think you have written them because we have been conversing about heaven, and you wish to tell us more particularly how we are to go there. |
