as being all still future, and fo beyond the bounds of our prefent Enquiry, or of the feven Thunders, which are, I think, all ftill future alfo, as being included in the feventh Vial. I fhall presently therefore only fet down the bare words of the Prophecy, and leave the Expofition to future Ages.

Scholium 2. It will here be not unfeasonable to fet down. what Daniel faies of these two Wocs, we have lately treated of, the Saracens and the Turks. And what is to be the fate of the Turks afterward. And I efteem that Prophecy to be fa plain, as well as remarkable, that I fhall not need to add but a few words by way of Notes, as we go along for the understanding of it.

Dan..xj. 40. And at the time of the end fhall the king of the fouth (the Saracens) pub at him, (the Romans,) and the king of the north. (the Turks) hall come against him like a whirlwind with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships, and shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass over.

See Ifa.LX 1.25.

Dan.xij. 1,&..

41. And fhall enter into the glorious land, (the land of Judea,) and many countries fhall be overthrown: but these shall escape out of his hand, even Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon, (the wild Arabs.)

42. And fhall stretch forth his hand also upon the countries, and the land of Egypt fball not escape: (being at laft conquered by the Turks A. D.1517.)

43. But fhall have power over the treasures of gold and filver, and over all the precious things of Egypt; and the Lybians, and Cufbites fhall be at his fteps: (The Algerines, on the Coast of Africa, and the Arabians about Mecca and Medina.)

44. But tidings out of the east, (perhaps from the Jews refettled in Judea, Ezek. 38.) and out of the north (perhaps from the Muscovites) fall trouble him: therefore he shall go forth with great fury to destroy, and utterly to make away many.

45. And he shall plant the tabernacle of his palace between the feas (the Mediterranean, and Dead Seas,) in the glorious holy mountain, (Mount Sion, or Moriah,or Sinai,) yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him.

1. And at that time fhall Michael ftand up, the great prince which ftandeth for the children of thy people, (the Jews:) and there

hall be a time of trouble, fuch as never was fince there was a nation, even to that fame time: and at that time thy people (the Jews) fall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.

2. And many of them that fleep in the dust of the earth shall awake; fome to everlasting life, and fome to shame and everlasting contempt.

3. And they that be wife shall shine as the brightness of the firmament, and they that turn many to righteousness, as the stars for ever

and ever:

4. But thou, O Daniel fhut up the words, and feal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and know ledge or learning fhall be increafed

This is Daniel's Account of the Turks quite down to the firft Refurrection; and if we look into Ezekiel, we fhall have a more large and particular Account of that famous War in Judea, here hinted at, which will utterly destroy that Kingdom for ever. But 'tis too large to be fet down here; it taking up two entire Chapters, the 38th and 39th of thatProphecy.

The Seventh TRUMPET, containing
Seven VIALS.

ND I Saw another fign in heaven, great and marvellous, fe- Apoc. xv. ven angels having the seven last plagues, for in them is filled up the wrath of God.

2. And I faw as it were a fea of glass mingled with fire; and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over his name, stand on the fea of glass, having the harps of God.

3. And they fing the song of Mofes the fervant of God, and the Song of the Lamb, Saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God almighty: juft and true are thy ways, thou King of faints.

4. Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy: for all nations fhall come and worship before thee; for thy judgments are made manifeft.

5. And

5. And after that, I looked, and behold, the temple of the tabernacle of the testimony in heaven was opened ;

6. And the feven angels came out of the temple, having the fe ven plagues, clothed in pure and white linnen, and having their breafts girded with golden girdles.

7. And one of the four animals gave unto the feven angels feven golden vials full of the wrath of God, who liveth for ever and

ever.

8. And the temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God, and from his power; and no man was able to enter into the temple, till the feven plagues of the feven angels were fulfilled.

AND I fee ND I heard a great voice out of the temple, faying to the fe Apoc. xvj. A ven angels, Go your ways, and pour out the vials of the·

wrath of God upon the earth.

2. And the first went, and poured out his vial upon the earth; and there fell a noifom and grievous fore upon the men which had the mark of the beast, and upon them which worshipped his image.

3. And the fecond angel poured out his vial upon the fea; and it became as the blood of a dead man: and every living foul died in the fea.

4 And the third angel poured out his vial upon the rivers and fountains of waters; and they became blood.

5. And I heard the angel of the waters fay, Thou art righteous, O Lord, which art, and wast, and shall be, because thou hast judged thus:

8. For they have fbed the blood of saints and prophets, and thon haft given them blood to drink; for they are worthy.

7. And I heard another out of the altar fay, Even fo, Lord God almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments.

8. And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the fun; and power was given unto him to fcorch men with fire.

9. And men were fcorched with great heat, and blafphemed the name of God, which hath power over thefe plagues: and they repented not to give him glory.

10. And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the feat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness, and they gnawed their tongues for pain.

11. And

1

11. And blafphemed the God of heaven, because of their pains and their fores, and repented not of their deeds.

12. And the fixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east, might be prepared.

13. And I faw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet.

14. For they are the Spirits of devils, working miracles. which go forth unto the kings of the earth, and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God almighty,

15. Behold, I come as a thief, Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, left he walk naked, and they see his shame. 16. And he gathered them together into a place, called in the Hebrew tongue, Armageddon.

17. And the feventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, faying, It is done.

18. And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not fince men were upon the earth, fo mighty an earthquake and so great.

19. And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cap of the wine of the fierceness of

bis wrath.

20. And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found.

21. And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every ftone about the weight of a talent: and men blafphemed God, becaufe of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great.

PART III.

OR,

A short View of the Prophecies contain'd in the

H

OPEN CODICIL.

AVING thus difpatch'd the former part of my Expofition, viz. of the Prophecies contain'd in the Sealed Book, which were more obfcure and difficult; I am now come to thofe in the Open Codicil: which being, according to the Importance of that name, much more plain and explicit than the former, our Task in this Part will be proportionably easier and lighter. If therefore we have any reafon to hope that we have had fome Succefs in the unfolding the hid den Myfteries of that more clofe and concealed Syftem of Vifions, we have less reason to fear a Difappointment in our Attempt to explain this Open Collection before us : Suppofing that the great Author and Revealer of these Sacred and Divine Predictions. be but pleas'd to afford the continuance of his Grace and Bleffing; without which the most laborious and promifing Attempts of this nature, muft and will be ftill vain, fruitless, and ineffectual and fuppofing alfo, what is imply'd therein, that the proper time be come wherein thefe Myfteries are to be
