50. A nation of fierce countenance, which shall not regard the perfon of the old, nor fhew favour to the young.

51. And he (hall eat the fruit of thy cattle, and the fruit of thy land, until thou be destroyed: which also shall not leave either corn, wine, or oyl, or the increase of thy kine, or flocks of thy fheep, until he have deftroyed thee.

52. And he fhall befiege thee in all thy gates, until thy high and fenced walls come down, wherein thou trustedft, throughout all thy land: and he shall besiege thee in all thy gates, throughout all thy land which the Lord thy God hath given thee.

53. And thou shalt eat the fruit of thine own body, the flesh of thy fons and of thy daughters (which the Lord thy God hath given thee) in the fiege, and in the ftraitness, wherewith thine enemies fhall diftrefs thee:

54. So that the man that is tender among you, and very delicate, his eye fhall be evil toward his brother, and toward the wife of his bofom, and towards the remnant of his children which he shall leave:

55. So that he will not give to any of them of the flesh of his children whom he shall eat: because he hath nothing left him in the fiege, and in the ftraitness wherewith thine enemies shall distress thee in all thy gates.

56. The tender and delicate woman among you, which would not adventure to fet the fole of her foot upon the ground, for delicateness and tenderness, her eye fhall be evil towards the husband of her bofom, and towards her son, and towards her daughter,

57. And towards her young one that cometh out from between ber feet, and towards her children which she shall bear : for she shall eat them for want of all things, fecretly in the fiege and straitness wherewith thine enemy (ball distress thee in thy gates.

58. If thou wilt not observe to do all the words of this law, that are written in this book, that thou mayeft fear this glorious and fearful name, THE LORD THY GÓD:

59. Then the Lord will make thy plagues wonderful, and the plagues of thy feed ; even great plagues, and of long continuance; and fore fickneffes, and of long continuance.

60. Moreover, he will bring upon thee all the difeafes of Egypt, which thou waft afraid of; and they shall cleave unto thee. Qq 2

61. Also every sickness, and every plague which is not written in the book of this law, them will the Lord bring upon thee, until thou be destroyed.

62. And ye shall be left few in number, whereas ye were as the ftars of heaven for multitude: because thou wouldest not obey the voice of the Lord thy God.

63 And it shall come to pass, that as the Lord rejoyced over you to do you good, and to multiply you: fo the Lord will rejoyce over you to destroy you, and to bring you to nought; and ye shall be plucked from off the land whither thou goeft ta poffefsir.

64. And the Lord fhall fcatter thee among all people, from the one end of the earth even unto the other; and there thou shalt ferve other Gods, which neither thou nor thy fathers have known, even wood and ftone.

65. And among these nations shalt thou find no ease, neither shall the fole of thy foot have reft: but the Lord shall give thee there a trembling heart, and failing of eyes, and forrow of mind.

66. And thy life fhall hang in doubt before thee, and thou sbalt fear day and night, and fhalt have none affurance of thy life.

67. In the morning thou shalt fay, Would God it were even : and at even thou shalt fay, Would God it were morning, for the fear of thine heart wherewith thou shalt fear,and for the fight of thine eyes which thou shalt fee.

68. And the Lord fhall bring thee into Egypt again with fhips, by the way whereof Ifpake unto thee, Thou shalt fee it no more again: and there ye shall be fold unto your enemies for bond-men and bond-women, and no man shall buy you.

CHAP. XXIX. 22.-28.

22. So that the generation to come of your children that fall rife up after you, and the ftranger that shall come from a far land, fhall fay, when they fee the plagues of that land, and the sicknesses which the Lord hath laid upon it;

23. And that the whole land thereof is brimstone, and falt, and burning; that it is not fown, nor beareth, nor any grafs groweth therein, like the the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboim, which the Lord overthew in his anger and in his wrath: 24. Even all nations shall fay, Wherefore bath the Lord done

thus

thus unto this land? what meaneth the heat of this great anger? 25. Then men fhall fay, Because they have forfaken the covenant of the Lord God of their fathers, which he made with them, when he brought them forth out of the land of Egypt.

26. For they went and ferved other gods, and worshipped them, gods whom they knew not, and whom he had not given unto them. 27. And the anger of the Lord was kindled against this land, to bring upon it all the curfes that are writen in this book.

28. And the Lord rooted them out of their land, in anger, and in wrath, and in great indignation, and caft them into another land, as it is this day.

PSALM. LXXix. I-7.

God, the heathen are come into thine inheritance, thy holy temple have they defiled: they have laid Jerusalem on heaps. 2. The dead bodies of thy fervants have they given to be meat unto the fowls of the heaven, the flesh of thy faints unto the beasts of the earth.

3. Their bloud have they shed like water round about Jerusalem: and there was none to bury them.

4. We are become a reproach to our neighbours: a scorn and derifion to them that are round about us.

5. How long Lord? wilt thou be angry for ever? fallthy jealoufie burn like fire?

6. Pour out thy wrath upon the heathen that have not known thee, and upon the kingdoms that have not called upon thy name.

7. For they have devoured Jacob, and laid waste his dwellingplace.

ISATAH iij. 25, 26.

25. Thy men fhall fall by the fword, and thy mighty in the war. 26. And her gates shall lament and mourn, and she being defolate, fhall fit upon the ground.

CHAP. V. 5, 6, 26,—30.

5. And now go to; I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard; I will take away the hedge thereof, and it shall be eaten up: and break down the wall thereof, and it shall be trodden down.

6. And I will lay it waste: it shall not be pruned, nor digged; but there hall come up briers and thorns: I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain upon it.

26. And he will lift up an ensign to the nations from far, and will hiss unto them from the end of the earth: and behold, they Jhall come with speed fwiftly.

27. None ball be weary nor ftumble amongst them: none fhall fumber nor fleep: neither fall the girdle of their loins be loofed, nor the latchet of their fhoes be broken.

28. Whofe arrows are sharp, and all their bows bent; their horfes hoofs fhall be counted like flint, and their wheels like a whirlwind. 29. Their roring shall be like a lion, they shall rore like young lions: yea, they shall rore, and lay hold of the prey, and shall carry it away fafe, and none fhall deliver it.

30. And in that day they shall rore against them, like the roring of the fea: and if one look unto the land, behold darkness and for row, and the light is darkened in the heavens thereof.

CHAP. vj. 11, 12.

11. Then faid I, Lord, how long? And he answered, Until the cities be wasted without inhabitant, and the houses without man, and the land be utterly defolate.

12. And the Lord have removed men far away, and there be a great forfaking in the midst of the land.

CHAP. XXIV. 1-20.

B Ebold, the Lord maketh the earth empty, and maketh it waftes

and turneth it upside down, and feattereth abroad the inhabitants thereof.

2. And it shall be, as with the people, fo with the priest; as with the fervant, fo with his master; as with the maid, fo with ber miftrefs; as with the buyer, fo with the feller; as with the lender, fo with the borrower; as with the taker of ufury, fo with the giver of ufury to him.

3. The land fhall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled: for the Lord hath spoken this word.

4. The earth mourneth and fadethaway, the world languisheth and fadeth away, the haughty people of the earth do languish.

5. The earth alfo is defiled under the inhabitants thereof: because they have tranfgreffed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant.

6. Therefore hath the curfe devoured the earth, and they that dwell therein are defolate: therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left.

7. The new wine mourneth, the vine languisheth, all the merry-hearted do figh.

8. The mirth of tabrets ceafeth, the noise of them that rejoice endeth, the joy of the harp ceafeth.

9. They shall not drink wine with a fong; strong drink shall be bitter to them that drink it.

10. The city of confusion is broken down, every house is shut up, that no man may come in.

11. There is a crying for wine in the streets, all joy is darkened, the mirth of the land is gone.

12. In the city is left defolation, and the gate is smitten with destruction.

13. When thus it fhall be in the midst of the land among the peo ple, there shall be as the baking of an olive-tree, and as the gleaning-grapes when the vintage is done.

14. Theyball lift up their voice, they fball fing for the majesty. of the Lord, they shall cry aloud from the fea.

15. Wherefore glorifie ye the Lord in the fires, even the name of the Lord God of Ifrael in the ifles of the fea.

16. From the uttermoft part of the earth have we heard fongs, even glory to the righteous: but Ifaid, My leanness, my leanness, wo unto me: the treacherous dealers have dealt treacherously, yea, the treacherous dealers have dealt very treacherously.

17. Fear, andthe pit, and the fnare are upon thee, O inhabitant of the earth.

18. And it shall come to pass, that be who fleeth from the noise of the fear, ball fall into the pit; and he that cometh up out of the midst of the pit, fhall be taken in the fnare: for the windows from on high are open, and the foundations of the earth do fhake.

19. The earth is utterly broken down, the earth is clean diffolved, the earth is moved exceedingly.

20. The earth fall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and shall
