their Durations are certainly equal, is so fairly imply'd in the Texts themselves, and their mutual connexion, that 'tis ge
nerally own'd, and so need not be farther insisted on. The Apoc. xi. 2, 3. words are these : The Court which is without the Temple cast out,
and measure it not; for it is given to the Gentiles : and the holy City shall they tread under foet 42 months. And I will give power unto my rwo Witnesses, and they shall prophecy 1260 days, or all
those 42 months, cloathed in fackcloth. And, as Mr. Mede Apoc. xi. 18. well observes, this is confirm'd by the Anger of the Gentiles,
express'd as soon as the Witnesses are ascended up into Heaven, on account of their being at the same time excluded and
banish'd from the Court of the Temple, which hitherto for Ver. 2.
so long a time they had possess’d, and trampled under their feet. There appearing no other reason in the Text for such their Anger, than that Exclusion and Banishment, and the consequent punishment from God; and that being a most natural occasion of such a passion. So that since this their Anger is contemporary in the Prophecy with the Ascension of the Witnesles, or the Conclusion of their Sackcloth-condition; it is a strong Indication that these two equal Periods of the tread. ing down of the holy City, or Outer Court of the Temple by the Gentiles, and of the condition of the two Witnesses prophecying in Sackclotlı, end at the same time, and by consequence are intirely contemporary
So that, upon the whole, (to re-capitulate the three last Arguments) since it particularly appears from the second Argument, that the third and fourth Prophecies are intirely contemporary: and from the third Argument, that the second and fourth are intirely contemporary: and from the fourth Argument, that the first and second are also intirely contemporary: the Consequence is, that all four are universally and intirely contemporary from the beginning to the end.
Corollarium. The State of the Church, represented by the Inner Apoc. xi. 1. Court, measur'd by St. John, as being sacred and pure; and that & c.xij. represented by the Struggle or Combat between the nagon and his
Angels on the one side, against Michael und hos Angels on the other, about the woman with Child, and the Snares laid for her before me arriv'd in the Wilderness, are contemporary to each
other, and prior to the State of the Church, represented ander the four foregoing Synchronisms, contain'd in the present Propofition. This is plain, because these two States do directly precede the Contemporary States before-mention'd. The Inner Court, both in the Situation of the Temple, and in the Order of St. John's A&tions and Narrations, being just before the Outer; and the pains of Gestation and Childbirth, and Flight, with the Combat and Snares appertaining to them, being just before the habitation or continuance in the Wilderness. And since it has been prov'd in this Proposition, that the Outer Court, and the Woman's habitation in the Wildernefs, are exactly contemporary; it will follow, that the Inner Court, and the Contest about the Woman with Child, and her flight into the Wilderness, are contemporary, and immediately preceding them

That the fecond Beast in the Revelation, is the same that is there also stiled the false Prophet, is evident by their Descriptis ons compar'd together; and by the consent of Interpreters of the Apocalypse, even as early as the Times of Irenæus. The Lib.v.c.xxviij. words of the Text concerning the second Beast, are these. P.444 He doth great Wonders, so that he maketh Fire to come down from Apoc. xii;. 130 Heaven on the Earth in the fight of Men; and deceiveth them 14. that dwell on the Earth by the means of those Miracles which he had power to do in the fight of the Beast; saying to them that dwath on the Earth, that they Thould make an Image to the Beast which bad the wound by a word, and did live. The Parallel description
of the salse Propher runs in these words, The Beast was råken, Apoc. xix. 20. and with himn the false Prophet, that wrought Miracles before him;
with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the Beaft, and them tha: worshipped his image. That the Little Horn alfo in Daniel ( I mean not that belonging to the Third KingHom, Dan. viij. but that belonging to the Fourch, Dan. vij.) is the fame with this second Beast, or falfe Prophet, is evident, not only becanfe there is nothing elfe in the Revelation which can agree to it; but also by their common relation to, and dependance on the first Beast with feven Heads and ten Horn's; and by the likeness of their Characters: And accordingly the
general* confent of Interpreter's has determin'd them to be the Dap.vij. 8, 11, fame. The Little Horn had eyes like the ages of a man, and a 20, 250 mouth speaking very great things: whose looks were more stött
than his fellows. Who Would speak great words against the most High; and mould wear out the Sainis of the most High; and think to change times and laws. Part of the second Beast's Character
is, That tho' he had two Horn's like ta -Lamb, yet that He spuke Apoc. xiij. 11, as a Dragon. That he exerciseth all the power of the first Beast 12, 15.
before him, and had power to give life to the image of the Beast; that the Image of the Beast would both fpeak, and cause that as many as would not worship the Image of the Beast Mould be killed.

Man of Sin likewise. The Second Beast or Litýle Horn pretends to strange Wonders and Miracles, and thereby deceivęs Apoc. xiij. 13, the World; lo does the Man of Sin also. And the Second 14.. Beaft or Little Horn iş destroy'd at Christ's coming to set up

Stroy'd with the brightness of bis Coming : In hort, the Little 2 Thes.ij.8. Horn, Şecond Beast, and Man of şin, are so exa&ly alike through their whole Descriptions, that hardly, any Commentator has ever doubted of their being the same things. But then the reason why Șt. John's Description of the Twohorned Beast does not mention his Duration, nor his dis. planting or humbling Three Kings, which are principal Characters in Daniel; iş plainly, because his chief business was to fupply Daniel's defects, and particularize such things as were omitted by him, according to St. Jobn's known method both in his Gospel, with respect to the threç former Evangelists, and in she Apocalypse with respect to Daniel. And that this Little Harn, Second Beaft, Falfe Prophet, or Man of Sin, is in the main contemporary yith the first Beght with feven Heads, and sen Horss, is evident by the following Arguments.
1. They have both no very different Duration of their Dominion: For the Beaft with feyer Heads and ten Horns, as we have already seen, has power 10 make war 42 months : And Apoc. xiij.si ibe Little Horn bas Times and Laws given into his band until a Dan. vij. 25. Time, Times, apd a division or part of Time : which, as a Learned vid. Hoon Friend of mine Judiciously expounds it, is three years and one vij, prius. of the known and molt evident divisions of a year; ¿.e. a month or 37 Prophetick months ; s. e. but five such months fewer than the other Beast. So that since he is expressly said to arise after the other, and that this five months later rise exactly agrees herewith, 'tis probable that the rest of their Durations do go along together, and so they are in the main contemporary
2. The Beast with seven Heads and ten Horns begins the fame hour with the tep Kings; or as soon as ever the Roman Em- Apoc. XviS 120 pire is actually divided into Ten Kingdoms ; 1. c. when those Divisions which came on gradually amounted to the just and full Number of Ten. [And it seems impossible to be other
wise; for while there were but eight or nine Horns, it could not be a Bealt with ten Horns : but as soon asever the Tenth
was arisen,it mult needs be a Bealt with that number of Horns.] Dan. vij. 8, 24. And the Little Horn is said to come up among the ten Horns
in place; and yet he is said to arise after them in tlme. ic. Tho' this Little Horn was to obtain his power in the same place with the other, yet did not he begin to Rule or Reign till some time after all the other Ten were up; and that there. fore his Date is some time after the Rise of all the other Horns. Which being suppos’d, and that as we have already seen, the Duration of the Little Horn's Dominion is not very much shorter than that of the Beast with ten Horns; 'tis evident that the Period of such their Dominion must end about the fame time also, and they in the main be contemporary.
3. They having both no very different Duration, as we have already seen, do appear also to end at the same time; I mean as to their Reign or Tyranny; and therefore must be in the main contemporary. Now that they end together, is plain, because the first Beasts 42 Months end at the beginning of the feventh Trumpet, or the Commencement of Christ's King. dom; as we have already seen, and as the Nature of the thing evidently requires: and because the Little Horn, or Second Beasts Time, Times, and a Division of Time, do also expire
at the same Commencement of Christ's Kingdom, as is Dan..vij., 21, plain in Daniel's Account of him. The Little Horn making 22,25,26.
war with the Saints, and prevailing against them , until the
Ancient of days came, and judgment was given to the Saints of the most High; and the time came that the Saints poffefs'd the Kingdom. So that by Consequence they must in the main be contemporary.
4. The intimate Relation and Agreement which the first and second Beast have all along with each other, seems to im. ply that they are for the main inseparable Companions, and in
general belong to the same time. The second Beast is said to Apoc. xij. 13) exercise all the power of the first Beast before him ; and to cause 14, 17. the Earth, and them that dwell therein, to worship the first Bealt.
He has power to do Miracles in the fight of the Beast. He causes that no man may buy and sell, fave be that has the Mark, or the
