Those shining orbs that blaze above, Thou great Eternal Son of God, Why didst thou visit man again; Lo, in the dust we'll meekly lie, How dark and gloomy are our minds, The way of the transgresser 's hard, For death and judgment we must meet, Each darling sin must be removed, Your idols thrown away, Eternal life you then will eap, If you will watch and pray. Now turn your face to Zion's hill, With confidence the Scriptures search, His yoke is easy you will find, His grace will make your burdens light, His cross tho' heavy, I will bear, Repent, immortal soul repent! And learn to watch and pray. In heaven we'll wear a glorious crown, And palins of glorious victory bear, His THE GOODNESS OF GOD. power and wisdom ever shine, He spreads creation far and wide, Creation on his shoulders stands, Each globe his wisdom ever tells, The earth is e'en replenished too, The cloudy cisterns he doth break, Behold the vast extended fields, The feather'd warblers join their notes, Is man more base than beasts or birds, To talk of all his mercies past, Nor height, nor depth can ever span, With pity he is ever moved, Thou art my Father and my God, MARY AT THE SEPULCHRE. [The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalen, early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre. Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him.-John 20: 1, 2. And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus. Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him.-John 20: 14, 15.] · How faithful was Mary, her Saviour to seek, She tho't that the grave would her Saviour retain, Now Mary was weeping with sorrow and pain, Lest she ne'er might behold her Redeemer again; Then Jesus inquired, now whom do you seek? And when she beheld him, with joy she did leap. Then Mary was honored, the glad news to bear, And Peter he hastened the pleasure to share, But Thomas was doubting, he would not believe, He tho't that their rapture their hearts did deceive. Like Mary, be faithful in serving the Lord, If Mary had waited till light did appear, come. O let us be faithful in serving the Lord, And we too, like Mary, shall have a reward; THE VALE OF HUMILTIY. Down in the lowly valley My soul delights to go, Where lillies hang their gentle heads, |
