Hymn 202. I., M.

Peace,

THOU Lamb of God, thou Prince of
For thee my thirsty soul doth pine;
My longing heart implores thy grace:
O make me in thy likeness shine.
2 With fraudless, even, humble mind,
Thy will in all things may I see!
In love be every wish resign'd,
And hallow'd my whole heart to thee.
3 When pain o'er my weak flesh prevails,
With lamb-like patience arm my breast;
When grief my wounded soul assails,
In lowly meekness may I rest.
4 Close by thy side still may I keep,
Howe'er life's various currents flow;
With steadfast eye mark every step,
And follow thee where'er thou go.
5 Thou, Lord, the dreadful fight hast won;
Alone thou hast the winepress trod;
In me thy strength'ning grace be shown,
O may I conquer through thy blood!

6 So, when on Zion thou shalt stand,
And all heaven's hosts adore their King,
Shall I be found at thy right hand,
And, free from pain, thy glories sing.
Hymn 203. L. M.

1 JESUS, the weary wand'rer's rest,

me thy easy yoke to bear; With steadfast patience arm my breast, With spotless love, and lowly fear:

2 Thankful I take the cup from thee, Prepar'd and mingled by thy skill: • Though bitter to the taste it be, Powerful the wounded soul to heal.

3 Be thou, O Rock of ages, nigh!
[gone
So shall each murmuring thought be
And grief, and fear, and care shall fly,
As clouds before the mid-day sun.

4 Speak to my warring passions "Peace;"
Say to my troubled heart "Be still:"
Thy power my strength and fortress is,
For all things serve thy sov'reign will.

5 O death! where is thy sting? where now
Thy boasted victory, O grave?
Who shall contend with God? or who

Can hurt whom God delights to save?

THE CHRISTIAN'S WARFARE.

Hymn 204. S. M.

1 COLDIERS of Christ, arise,
And put your armour on,
Strong in the strength which God supplies
Through his eternal Son:
Strong in the Lord of Hosts,
And in his mighty power,
Who in the strength of Jesus trusts,
Is more than conqueror.

2 Stand then in his great might,
With all his strength endued;

But take to arm you for the fight,
The panoply of God;
That having all things done,
And all your conflicts past,
Ye may o'ercome through Christ alone,
And stand entire at last.

3 Stand then against your foes,
In close and firm array:
Legions of wily fiends oppose
Throughout the evil day:
But meet the sons of night,
But mock their vain design;
Arm'd in the arms of heavenly light,
Of righteousness divine.
4 Leave no unguarded place,
No weakness of the soul:
Take every virtue, every grace,
And fortify the whole:
But above all, lay hold

On faith's victorious shield:
Arm'd with that adamant and gold,
You're sure to win the field.

Hymn 205. S. M.

1 INDISSOLUBLY join'd,
proceed:
But arm yourselves with all the mind
That was in Christ your head:
If faith surround your heart,
Satan shall be subdued,
Repell'd his every fiery dart,
And quench'd with Jesu's blood.

2 Jesus hath died for you!

What can his love withstand?

Believe, hold fast your shield, and who
Shall pluck you from his hand?
Believe that Jesus reigns,
All power to him is given:
Believe! till freed from sin's remains!
Believe yourselves to heaven!

3 To keep your armour bright,
Attend with constant care;
Still walking in your Captain's sight,
And watching unto prayer:
Ready for all alarms,
Steadfastly set your face,
And always exercise your arms,
And use your every grace.
4 Pray! without ceasing pray:
(Your Captain gives the word)
His summons erfully obey,
And call upon the Lord:
To God your every want
In instant prayer display;
Pray, always pray, and never faint,
Pray! without ceasing pray.

Hymn 206. S. M.

HARK! how the watchmen cry:
Attend the trumpet's sound;
Stand to your arms, the foe is nigh!
The powers of hell surround:
Who bow to Christ's command,

Your arms and hearts prepare:

The day of battle is at hand!
Go forth to glorious war!
2 See on the mountain-top
The standard of our God!
In Jesu's name I lift it up,
All stain'd with hallow'd blood.
His standard-bearer, I

To all the nations call:
Let all to Jesu's cross draw nigh!
He bore the cross for all.

6

3 Go up with Christ your Head,
Your Captain's footsteps see;
Follow your Captain, and be led
To certain victory!
All power to him is given :
He ever reigns the same:
Salvation, happiness, and heaven,
Are all in Jesu's name.

4 Only have faith in God;

1

In faith your foes assail: Not wrestling against flesh and blood, But all the powers of hell; From thrones of glory driven, By flaming vengeance hurl'd, They throng the air, and darken heaven, And rule the lower world.

Hymn 207. С. М.

The Christian Soldier.

a soldier of the cross,
A follower of the Lamb?
And shall I fear to own his cause,
Or blush to speak his name?
