4 Saw ye not the cloud arise

Little as a human hand?
Now it spreads along the skies,
Hangs o'er all the thirsty land.
Lo! the promise for a show'r
Drops already from above;
But the Lord will shortly pour g
All the Spirit of his love!

Hymn 221. L. M.

Thou shalt arise and have mercy upon Zion; for the time to favour her is come. Psalm cii. 13.

1 NOR lo! the Lord

a seed hath chose,
to display;

His own peculiar people those,
Whoe'er the gospel call obey

e feel:

2 Zion, he saith, my rest shall be;
The faithful shall my presence
I long for all who long for me,
And will in them for ever dwell.

3 I will increase their gracious store;
My Zion every moment feed,
And satisfy the hungry poor,
And fill their souls with living bread.

• With garments of salvation deck
Her priests, and clothe with robes of praise.
Her saints their joy aloud shall speak,
And shout my all-sufficient grace..

Hymn 222. S. M.

The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord and of his Christ. Rev. xi. 15.

1 JESUS, the Conqu'ror reigns,
In glorious strength array'd:
His kingdom over all maintains
And bids the earth be glad.

2 Ye sons of men, rejoice

In Jesu's mighty love:
Lift up your beart, lift up your voice,
To him who rules above.

3 Extol his kingly pow'r;
Kiss the exalted Son,
Who died, and lives to die no more,
High on his Father's throne.

4 Our Advocate with God,

He undertakes our cause, And spreads through all the earth abroad, The vict'ry of his cross.

Hymn 223. L. M.

Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. Psa. ii. 8.

1

ON of thy Sire's eternal love,

SON of th

thyself thy mighty power:

Let all earth's sous thy mercy prove,
Let all thy bleeding face adore!
2 The triumphs of thy love display:
In every heart reign thou alone,

1

Till all thy foes confess thy sway,
And glory ends what grace began.
3 Spirit of grace, and health, and power,
Fountain of light and love below,
Abroad thy healing influence shower,
O'er all the nations let it flow.

4 Inflame our hearts with perfect love,
In us the work of faith fulfil:
So not heaven's host shall swifter move,
Than we on earth to do thy will.

Hymn 224. L. M.

For from the rising of the sun even unto the
going down of the same, my name shall be
great among the Gentiles. Mal. i. 11.

JESUS shall reign where'er the sun
Does his successive journeys run;
His kingdom spread from shore to shore,
Till moon shall wax and wane no more.

2 From north to south the princes meet,
To pay their homage at his feet;
While western einpires own their Lord,
And savage tribes attend his word.
3 To him shall endless pray'r be made,
And endless praises crown his head:
His name like sweet perfume shall rise,
With ev'ry morning sacrifice.

4 People and realms of every tongue,
Dwell on his love with sweetest song,
And infant voices shall proclaim
Their early blessings on his name.

Hymn 225. L. M.

I will abundantly bless her provision; I will satisfy her poor with bread. Psa. cxxxii. 15.

B

LESSINGS abound where Jesus reigns;
The joyful pris'ner bursts his chains;
The weary find eternal rest,
And all the sons of want are blest.

2 Where he displays his healing power,
Death and the curse are known no more;
In him the tribes of Adam boast
More blessings than their father lost.

3 Let every creature rise and bring
Peculiar honours to our King:
Angels descend with songs again,
And earth repeat the loud amen.

Hymn 226. L. M.

Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of the Lord: awake as in ancient days. Isa. li. 9.

[ocr errors]

A

RM of the Lord, awake, awake! Thine own immortal strength put on! With terror cloth'd, the nations shake, And cast thy foes with fury down.

2 As in the ancient days appear!
The sacred annals speak thy fame;
Be now omnipotently near,
To endless ages still the same.

3 By death and hell pursued in vain,

To thee the ramsom'd seed shall come;

1

Shouting, their heavenly Zion gain,
And pass through death triumphant home.

4 The pain of life shall then be o'er,
The anguish and distracting care;
Sighing and grief are known no more,
And sin shall never enter there.
5 Where pure essential joy is found,
The Lord's redeem'd their heads shall raise,
With everlasting gladness crown'd,
And fill'd with love, and lost in praise.
Hymn 227. P. М.

Look unto me and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth. Isaiah xlv. 22.

dearly purchas'd sinners, Fill'd with faith's assurance rise;

RIS

Through the loss of Jesus winners,
Lord of all in earth and skies;
Sing and triumph
In his bleeding sacrifice.
2 To his meritorious passion
All our happiness we owe;
Pardon, holiness, salvation,
Heaven above and heaven below;
Grace and glory,
From that open fountain flow.

3 Blest in our returning Saviour,
When he hath prepar'd our place,
We shall reign with him for ever,
Folded in his love's embrace:
Come, Redecmer,
Show us all thy heavenly face.
