for me. O Lord, my nature is so corrupt, that I am not able of myself to please thee, unless thou assistest me with the grace and benediction of thy Holy Spirit. My own experience tells me how easily I am led astray by the flattering amusements, and vain examples, that prevail in the world. Besides my own evil propensities, I am assailed by the EVIL ONE, who is constantly lying in wait to ensnare and destroy me ;* and without thy assistance, I am both unable to please thee, and save my own soul. O leave me not to myself; do not forsake me, nor "withdraw thy Holy Spirit from me." Keep me ever in the paths of holiness; secure me against all dangers both ghostly and bodily; and when my eye-lids close in darkness, do

thou in a more especial manner protect me by thy Providence, and raise me to the

light and enjoyment of another day. These mercies, O righteous and eternal God, I most humbly ask in the name and through the mediation of Jesus Christ, our blessed Lord and Saviour. AMEN.

Monday Evening.

ALMIGHTY GOD, accept this evening's sacrifice of my prayer and praise. I adore thee for all thy tender mercies, and deeply lament that I am so undeserving of them. The frailty of my nature is such, that I cannot always please thee; but thou knowest how much I love thee, and how unwilling I am to do any thing to create or incur thy displeasure. I implore, therefore, the

forgiveness of all my offences; and humbly beseech thee to bear with my infirmities, to enlighten my understanding, and to "lead me in the way everlasting." Let all things "work together for my good," and wherein I have done wrong, suffer me not to do so again. Give me a true faith in Christ Jesus; root out of my heart every evil thought, and all uncharitableness; let me be a useful member of society; a pattern to others, and an honour to my christian profession. Implant in my mind the genuine seeds of humility, and the sweet incense of unaffected piety; and let no worldly honours or distinctions, no wicked example or false persuasion, ever move me to slight or contemn thy commandments. Bestow upon me a contented disposition; make me useful in the station in which thou hast placed

me, and direct my efforts, and all my undertakings, to the advancement of thy glory, the benefit of my fellow-creatures, and the comfort and satisfaction of those around me. Bless me with health of body, serenity of mind, and resignation of soul. Conform my life to the precepts of thy Holy Word; assist me at all times with thy divine grace; and as my years pass away, make me more fit for thy heavenly kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord. O MOST GRACIOUS GOD, I desire, above all things, to give thee most humble. and hearty thanks for the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ, and for the hope of glory hereafter. Grant that I may every day, more and more see the enormity of sin, and the dreadful consequences of an impenitent heart. Open my eyes to see the grand scheme of the gospel dispensation, and the absolute necessity of being "born again," and becoming 16 a new creature." Teach me, by the efficacy of thy Holy Spirit, to overcome the temptations of the world, and to bring forth the fruits of a holy and religious life. Teach me to "adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour,"
