tribulations; for they shall work out for you an eternal weight of glory. Sow to the Spirit, by solemn dedication of body and soul to God, your Redeemer, presenting yourselves as a living sacrifice to Him who died for you, “ taking joyfully the spoiling of your worldly goods, knowing that in Heaven you have a better and an enduring substance. Cast not away your confidence which hath

great recompense of reward.” Remember the ancient witnesses, “ who had trials of cruel mockings, and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonments: they were stoned, they were sawn in sunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheep skins and goat skins, being destitute, afflicted, tormented : (of whom the world was not worthy,) they wandered in deserts and caves of the earth. They obtained a good report through faith ;” and their souls rest under the altar, yet for a little season, until their fellow-seryants, and their brethren that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled. It may be your privilege to suffer for the Name of Christ. O! glorious privilege! If you suffer for Him, you shall reign with Him; but if you deny Him, He will deny you. Be faithful to the Name of Jesus, who became poor for your sakes, that through His poverty you might become rich; and learn of Him to despise the perishable riches of this world; for its glory is like the flower of grass; and like the early dew that goeth away; but righteousness endureth for ever.

I have observed that as a humble individual I

may give my opinion of the Indians; and have adverted to their present sufferings, as a powerful admonition that the day of judgment, and perdition of ungodly men, is very near at hand. I repeat it, with this addition, that my belief in their original lineage to the house of Joseph, which means, “ Ephraim and his companions,” cannot be wrong, as the Scripture prophecies that immediately concern the lost tribes of Israel, absolutely adhere to literality in their visible separation from all other nations, even as the Jews are unto this day; and also describe the Indians, as I have found them. When I search the Scriptures, to know the case of “the divorced wife,” “ the afflicted one,” I discover my

red brethren; and their condition is reflected in prophecies of Israel. It is true that I can only view the greater part of Indian nations as Israel under the judgment of divorce from her God. I am obliged to recognize “the drunkards of Ephraim,” “a cake not turned,” “a silly dove without heart,” “ feeding on wind,” “ desolate in the day of rebuke,” “a spoil and a prey,” &c. I see them become like unto the children of the Moors, neither black nor white; but I hear God say unto them in His Word, are the people that I brought up out of the land of Egypt.” I confess they are lost sheep, but of the house of Israel; and search farther, to know what portion they have in Christ, when He cometh out of Zion, to turn away reproach from the Jews, and graff them in again to their own Olive tree. I discover that this glorious epiphany of the Lord JESUS is followed by the gathering of His elect unto Him; and that Israel is the elect; of course the lost tribes *ake the lead, as outward Bride of the Lamb.

will betroth thee unto me forever; yea, I will betroth thee unto me in righteousness, and in judgment, and loving kindness, and in mercies. I will even betroth thee unto me in faithfulness, and thou shalt know the Lord.”

1. In righteousness; for this is the covenant: “I will take you from among the Heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land. Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean; from all your filthiness, and from all your idols will I cleanse you. A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you; and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments and do them. And ye shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers, and ye shall be my people, and I will be your God.”

2. In judgment. “And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not: I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them.” “I am the Lord your Holy One, the Holy One of Israel, your King.” 3.* “He shall feed His flock like a shepherd: He shall gather the lambs with His arm, and carry them in His bosom.” " And even to your

will bear: even I will carry you, and deliver you." 4. In mercies. “I will forgive their iniquity, and will remember their sin no more." 6 Thus saith the Lord God: In the day that I shall have cleansed you from all your iniquities, I will also cause you to dwell in the cities, and the wastes shall be builded. And the desolate land shall be tilled, whereas it lay desolate in the sight of all that passed by. And they shall say, this land that was desolate, is become like the garden of Eden; and the waste, and the desolate, and ruined cities are become fenced, and are inhabited. And the Gentiles that are round about

shall know that I the Lord build the ruined places; and plant that that was desolate : I the Lord have spoken it, and will do it.”

Declarations like these cannot be controverted with impunity: they are open testimonies of the God of Gods; and the Lord of Lords,“ whose word that goeth forth out of His mouth shall not return to Him void; but shall accomplish that which He please, and prosper in the thing whereto He sent it.”

In regard to the literal restoration of the lost tribes of Israel, its primal object is the glory of the Lord, which is declared in very plain terms.“ Thus saith the Lord God; I do not this for your sakes, O house of Israel, but for mine holy Name's sake,” &c. because He had promised to give the land of Canaan to the seed of Jacob for an everlasting possession; and it is very striking also, that the ground was called holy, even while the wicked Canaanites

and Jerusalem was thus honored after the crucifixion of her king. It is apparent that the land was given to Jesus Christ, as Abraham's promised seed; and that in Him the tribes of Jacob

dwelt upon

have it insured to them for an inheritance forever; for it is the second person, even the Lord, the Word, which spake to Moses, saying, “ The land shall not be sold forever; for it is mine. Even in the holy law which was written by the finger of God upon tables of stone, the presenting of the land is accorded to our Blessed Saviour, who is called the Lord, the God of Israel.

It is evident also, that Jerusalem was the place of the soles of His feet, and the elect place of His throne, from the foundation of the world, before the flood; for the Blessed Jesus styled it the city of the Great King, which demonstrates its election from the beginning of time, where Lucifer, the anointed cherub, walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.

It is my solemn belief, that upon the very spot where the first Adam fell by transgression, the second Adam drank the awful cup, by which His soul was made an offering for sin. Calvary I view as the place where Adam was judged; and Eve received her sentence precisely where the rock, the sepulchre was set, when the world appeared again after the flood.

I believe also, that the Blessed One appeared to Mary Magdalen, after His resurrection, on the spot where the serpent was cursed forever; and that the Tree of Life grew where the ancient Temple stood. To my apprehension these things are important and interesting to the mind that is entirely dedicated to Jesus Christ, the Lord; and I cannot see the impropriety of an open testimony to His original election of “ the garden of God,” as the place of the soles of His feet in the Glory of the latter Day, when it was
