11 He answered and said, A man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyee, and said unto me, Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash and I went and washed, and I received sight. 12 Then said they unto him, Where is he? He said, I know not.

13 They brought to the Pharisees him that aforetime was blind.

14 And it was the sabbath day when Jesus made the clay and opened his eyes.

WHAT was the principal conversation in the last chapter about?

In what place was this conversation?

While Jesus taught the people, did he often assert that he had the authority of one sent of God?

What were the Jews about to do, when he spoke so plainly to them?

1 AFTER he left the temple, what did he see, as he passed along the street? How long had he been so ?

2 WHAT question did his disciples ask?

Was it a common opinion, that God sent judgments on persons for some sin ?-Acts 28: 6. Is it true, that good men always escape suffering in this world? - Matt. 5:10, 12. 2 Cor. 4:9. Do the wicked always suffer great affliction here? Ps. 73: 5. Luke 16 25.

Then was the opinion of the Jews correct or incorrect?

3 WHO did Jesus say had not sinned?

Did he mean, they had not sinned at all, or that their sins did not cause the blindness of this child?

Why was he blind ?

4 WHAT Works must Jesus do ?

By whom was Jesus sent into this world?
When must he do these works?

What reason did he give?

What does God require of all of us? Micah

6:8. Acts 17:30.

Can you do these works after the night of death has come ?

How long?

5 How was he the Light of the world?

At another time, who did he say were the light of the world? - Matt. 5:14.

In this sense, is your teacher your light?

Is it unsafe to walk in dangerous places when it is dark?

Well, if the Word of God is a light to the mind, is it unsafe to neglect it?

6 THEN What did Jesus do ?

When he had made the soft clay, what did he do with it?

Could Jesus have opened his eyes without putting this on them?

7 WHAT did he then direct him to do?

Where was this pool?·

Luke 13: 4.

What does the name of this pool signify?
Did the man obey Jesus?

Did he receive a cure of his blindness ?

Can you relate the circumstances of a case somewhat similar? — 2 Kings 5: 10.

Is it not always good to obey what God commands?

Do you think he expected to be cured?

8 WHEN the people saw that he was cured, what did they say?

9 How did they reason among themselves ? But what did he say ?

10 THEN what did they inquire?

11 WHAT did he tell them?

In what manner?

12 WHAT did they then ask? What was his reply?

13 WHAT did they do with him? 14 ON what day was this done?

Do you think it is right for a physician to visit a sick person on the Sabbath?

Then was it right for Jesus to cure this man?

What did Jesus call the Pharisees?

Matt.

15: 14. If one blind man should attempt to lead another over a bridge, would not both be in great danger of falling off?

Is it safe to follow the teachings of men who
are blinded by sin?

Are not the minds of all thus blinded, who do
not love the truth of God's word?
Do you think you love the truth?

REVIEW.

Who are truly the disciples of Jesus?

Can you name any of his disciples who, though persecuted, continued to the end?

If a man fully believes God's word, what effect will it have on him?

Is sin a good master to serve ?

The Pharisees were wicked men; how did this comparison affect them?

Did they act consistently as children of God?
Why? Whence did Jesus come?

Who was their Father? Why?

Whose glory did Jesus seek? Whose did they? Who honored Jesus? How?

How did Abraham see the time of Jesus? Where did Jesus exist before Abraham ? What did Jesus find, as he passed along the street? Give some account of this man.

How did Jesus heal him?

What effect did this miracle produce?
Into what council was he brought?

After he had stated facts, about whom did they ask his opinion?

What did he say of him?

?

Then they called the parents; what did they say When the man was bold, what did they do? Which would you imitate, the parents or the son? Are you his disciple?

LESSON XXVIII.

The Man who was cured of his Blindness before the Sanhedrim.

CH. ix. 15-30.

15 Then again the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. He said unto them, He put clay upon mine eyes, and I washed, and do see.

16 Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is not of God, because he keepeth not the sabbath day. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them.

17 They say unto the blind man again, What sayest thou of him, that he hath opened thine eyes? He said, He is a prophet.

18 But the Jews did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind and received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight.

19 And they asked them, saying, Is this your son, who ye say was born blind? How then doth he now see?

20 His parents answered them and said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind:

21 But by what means he now seeth, we know not; or who hath opened his eyes, we know not: he is of age; ask him he shall speak for himself.

22 These words spake his parents, beCause they feared the Jews: for the

Jews had agreed already, that if any man did confess that he was Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue. 23 Therefore said his parents, He is of age; ask him.

24 Then again called they the man that was blind, and said unto him, Give God the praise we know that this man is a sinner.

25 He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.

26 Then said they to him again, What did he to thee? How opened he thine eyes?

27 He answered them, I have told you already, and ye did not hear: wherefore would you hear it again? will ye also be his disciples?

28 Then they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are Moses' disciples.

29 We know that God spake unto Moses: as for this fellow, we know not from whence he is.

30 The man answered and said unto them, Why herein is a marvellous thing, that ye know not from whence he is, and yet he hath opened mine eyes.

WHAT was the subject of the last lesson ? Can you tell the manner in which this man was cured?

On what day was it?

When the people saw he was healed, before whom did they bring him? —V. 13.

The court, before which guilty persons were brought, was the Sanhedrim; of what did they consider Jesus guilty? V. 16.

Do you think they intended to bring this man in as a witness against him?

Had he before performed a cure on the Sabbath?

15 WHAT did the Pharisees ask this man?

What was his reply?

16 DID they deny the fact?

Then what did some say ?

What reason did they give, to show that he was
not of God?

Was this really a violation of the Sabbath?
Did this prove that he was not a good man?
What did others say ?

His conduct would show him to be a bad or a good man; which did it prove him to be? Did all the court agree that he was a bad man? 17 THEY then changed the form of the question; what did they ask? What did he say?

18 DID they believe this man had been blind? Whom did they call?

19 WHAT inquiry did they make of them? Was their design bad or good?

20 DID they acknowledge him as their son ? Did they say he was born blind?

21 DID they know by what means he was healed, or by whom the cure was effected?

What did they say of him?

22 WHY did they say this?

Was that a good reason?

What had this council agreed to do, if any man acknowledged that he believed that Jesus was the Messiah?
