Faith sees no legal guilt again,

Though fin and its desert remain f:
the law, being made a curfe for us : for it is written, Cursed
is every one that hangeth on a tree. Rom. v. 4. Much more
then being now justified by his blood, we shall be faved from
wrath through him. Eph. i, 7. In whom we have redemption
through his blood, the forgiveness of fias, according to the
riches of his grace.

Some hidden wonders hence result:
I'm full of fin, yet free of guilt g:
Guilt is the legal bond or knot,
That binds to wrath and vengeance hot h;
But fin may be where guilt's away,
And guilt where fin could never ftay.
Guilt without any sin has been,
As in my surety may be seen;
The elect's guilt upon him came,
Yet still he was the holy Lamb i.
Sin without guilt may likewise be,
As may appear in pardon'd me:
For though my sin, alas! does stay,

Yet pardon takes the guilt away k. viii.

i. 3, 4. For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for fin condemned sin in the Melh : that the the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk pot after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

& Rom. iv. 14. For we know that the law is fpiritual: but I am carnal, fold under sin. Chap. viii. 33, 34. Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's ele&? It is God that justifieth : who is he that condemneth ? It is Chrić that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercesfion for us.

Rom. i. 18. For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness, and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness.

Thus free 1 am, yet still involv'd;
A guilty sinner, yet absolv'd l:
Though pardon leave no guilt behind,
Yet sin's defert remains I find. m.
Guilt and demerit differ here,
Though oft their names confounded are,
I'm guilty in myself always,
Since fin's demerit ever stays n.
Yet in my head I'm always free
From proper guilt affecting me ;
Because my Surety's blood cancelled

The bond of curses once me held o. him all that believe are justified from all things from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.

| Rom. iii. 19. Now we know that what things soever the law faith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. o. 23, 24. For all have finned, and come short of the glory of God; being juftified freely by his grace, through che redemption that is in Jesus Christ.

m Rom. iv. 6, 7, 8. Even as David also describeth the bles. sedness of the man unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works, saying, Blessed are they whofe iniquities are for given, and whose fins are covered. Blesfed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute fin. Pfal. li. 3, 4. For I acknowledge my tranfgreffions: and my fin is ever before me. Againit thee, thee only have I finned, and done this evil in thy light: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgeft. And cxliii. 2. O Lord, enter not into judgment with thy servant: for in thy fight shall no man living be justified.

n Rom. vii. 13, 14. Was then that which is good, made death unto me? God forbid. But fin, that it might appear fin, working death in me by that which is good ; that fin by the commandment might become exceeding finful. For we know tliat the law is fpiritual: but I am carnal, fold under sin. Eph. v. 6. Let no man deceive you with vain words : for be. fe of these things, cometh the wrath of God upon the chile of disobedience.

The guilt that pardon did divorce,
From legal threat’nings drew its force p.
But fin's desert that lodges still,
Is drawn from fin's intrinsic ill

Were guilt nought else but sin's desert,
Of pardon I'd renounce my part ;
For were I now in heav'n to dwell,
I'd own my sins deserved hell r.

o Rom. v. i. Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God, through our Lord Jelus Christ. v. 9. Much more then being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.

And not only fo, bụt we also joy in God, through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.

For as many as are of the works of the law, are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. v. 13. Chrilt hash redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree. 9

This does my highest wonder move
At matchless justifying love,
That thus fecures from.endless death
A wretch deserving double wraths.
Though well my black defert I know,
Yet I'm not liable to wo;
While full and complete righteousness

Imputed for my freedom is s. be unto him that fitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.

✓ Rom. vii. 24, 25. O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? I thank God, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Chap. viii. i. There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Chrilt Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 1 Tim. i. 13. Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious. But I obtained mercy, because I did itignorantly, in unbelief. v. 15, 16, 17. This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save finners; of whom I am chief. Howbeit, for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all long suffering, for Ź pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting. Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invi. ble, the only wise God, be honour and glory, for ever and e.

Amen, si Cor. i. 30. But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us--righteousness--and redemption. 2 Cor. 7.21: God hath made Christ to be sin for us, who knew no fin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. Rom. iv. II. And he [Abraham] received the sign of cir. cumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith, which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised ; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also. 0.22,-25. And thdrefore it was imputed to him for righteousness. Now it was not written for his fake alone, that it was imputed to him; but for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we be. lieve on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead, who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our iuftification.
