company of those who let those also who hate published it. him flee before him.

His salvation is nigh unto those who fear him, that glory may dwell in the land.

Mercy and truth are met together, righteousness and peace have kissed each other.

Truth shall flourish on the earth, and righteousness hath looked down from heaven.

The Lord will give strength unto his people; the Lord will give unto his people the blessing of peace.

Blessed are the people whose strength is from thee, and in whose heart are thy ways.

Teach us to do thy will, for thou art our God; O let thy good spirit lead us into the paths of right

eousness.

PROPER PSALMS.

MORNING PRAYER.

PSALM 68. LET God arise, and let his enemies be scattered;

Like as the smoke vanisheth, so shalt thou drive them away; and like as wax melteth at the fire, so shall the ungodly perish at the presence of God.

But let the righteous be glad, and rejoice before God; yea, let them exceedingly rejoice.

O sing unto God, and sing praises unto his name; magnify him who rideth upon the heavens; praise him in his name JEHOVAH, and rejoice before him.

He is a Father of the fatherless, and defendeth the cause of the widows; even God in his holy habitation.

God restoreth the solitary to their families, and bringeth the prisoners out of captivity; but letteth the rebellious continue in a dry land.

O God, when thou wentest forth before the people, when thou didst march through the wilderness;

The earth shook, and the heavens dropped at

the presence of God; even Sinai itself was moved at the presence of God, the God of Israel.

Thou, O God, sentest a gracious rain upon thine inheritance, and refreshedst it when it was weary. They dwelt in the midst of thy food; for thou, O God, didst of thy goodness prepare for the poor.

The Lord gave the word; great was the company of those who published it.

Kings with their armies did flee and were discomfited, and she who staid at home divided the spoil.

The chariots of God are twenty thousand, even thousands of angels, and the Lord is among them, as in the holy place of Sinai.

Thou art gone up on high, thou hast led captivity captive, and received gifts among men ; yea, even from thine enemies, that the Lord God might dwell among them.

Praised be the Lord daily; even the God who helpeth us, and poureth his benefits upon us.

He is our God, even the God of whom cometh salvation; God is the Lord, by whom we escape death.

The Lord hath said, I will bring my people again as I did from Bashan ; mine own will I bring again as I did once from the deep of the sea.

Sing unto God, O ye kingdoms of the earth; O sing praises unto the Lord;

Who sitteth in the heavens over all, from the beginning; lo, he doth send out his voice, yea, and that a mighty voice.

[blocks in formation]

I will open my mouth in a parable; I will declare hard sentences of old;

Which we have heard and known, and such as our fathers have told us;

That we should not hide them from the children of the generations to come, but to show the honor of the Lord, his mighty and wonderful works that he hath done.

He made a covenant with Jacob, and gave Israel a law, which he commanded our forefathers to teach their children;

That their their posterity might know it, and the children who are yet unborn;

To the intent that when they came up, they might show their children the

same;

That they might put their trust in God, and not to forget the works of God, but to keep his commandments.

EVENING PRAYER.

PSALM 44.

WE have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, what thou hast done in their time of old;

How thou hast driven out the heathen with thy hand, and planted them in; how thou hast destroyed the nations, and

cast them out.

For they gat not the land in possession through their own sword, neither was it their own arm that helped them;

But thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst a favor unto them.

Thou art my King, O God; send help unto Jacob.

For I will not trust in my bow; it is not my sword that shall help me.

But it is thou who savest us from our enemies, and puttest them to confusion who hate us.

We make our boast of God all day long, and will praise thy name for ever.

PSALM 105.

O GIVE thanks unto the Lord, and call upon his name; tell the people what things he hath done.

O let your songs be of him, and praise him; and let your talking be of all his wondrous works.

Rejoice in his holy name; let the heart of those rejoice who seek the Lord.

Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his face

evermore.

Remember the marvellous works that he hath done, his wonders, and the judgment of his mouth;

O ye seed of Abraham his servant, ye children of Jacob his chosen.

He is the Lord our God; his judgments are in all the world.

He hath been alway mindful of his covenant and promise that he made to a thousand generations;

Even the covenant that he made with Abraham, and the oath that he sware unto Isaac ;

And appointed the same unto Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting testament;

Saying, Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheri

tance.

When there were yet but a few of them, and they strangers in the land;

What time as they went from one nation to another, from one kingdom to another people;

He suffered no man to do them wrong, but reproved even kings for their sakes;

Touch not mine anointed and do my prophets no harm.

And he brought forth his people with joy, and his chosen with gladness;

And gave them the lands of the heathen; and they took the labors of the people in possession;

That they might keep his statutes, and observe his laws.

A SERVICE

FOR DAYS OF THANKSGIVING.

The Minister may use the common Service for Morning or Evening Prayer, till he comes to the Psalms for the Day of the Month; instead of which, the following Psalms are to be said.

PSALM 47.

O CLAP your hands together all ye people; O sing unto God with the voice of melody.

For the Lord is high, and to be feared; he is the great King over all the earth.

He shall subdue the people under us, and the nations under our feet.

He shall choose out an heritage for us, even the excellency of Jacob whom he loved.

God is gone up with a shout, and the Lord with the sound of the trumpet.

O sing praises, sing praises unto our God; O sing praises, sing praises unto our King.

For God is the King of all the earth; sing ye praises with understanding.

God reigneth over the heathen; God sitteth upon his holy throne.

The princes of the people are joined unto the people of the God of Abraham; for God, who is very high exalted, doth defend the earth as it were with a shield.

PSALM 147.

PRAISE ye the Lord : for it is a good thing to sing praises unto our God; yea, a joyful and pleasant thing it is to be thankful.

The Lord doth build up Jerusalem and gather
