fully hear the prayers of thy servants; deliver us from the dangers of the seas; protect and prosper us in the way we go, and bring us to our haven and to our friends in peace; but above all things grant that we may always submit to thy will and pleasure, and obey thy most holy law, and so pass the waves of this changing and troublesome world, that we may finally come to the land of everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. PRAYER IN STORMS AT SEA.

O MOST glorious and gracious Lord God, who dwellest in heaven, but beholdest all things below; look down we beseech thee, and hear us, calling out of the depth

of misery; and out of the jaws of this death, which is now ready to swallow us up. Save, Lord, or else we perish. The living, the living shall praise thee. O send thy word of command to rebuke the raging winds, and the roaring sea; that we, being delivered from this distress, may live to serve thee, and to glorify thy name all the days of our life. Hear, Lord, and save us, in the name of our blessed Saviour, thy Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

O THAT men would

praise the Lord for his goodness; and declare the wonders that he doeth for the children of men! That they would offer unto him the sacrifice of thanksgiving; and tell out his works with gladness! They that go down to the sea in ships; and occupy their business in great waters;

O that men would therefore praise the Lord for his goodness; and declare the wonders that he doeth for the children of men!

That they would exalt him also in the congregation of the people; and praise him in the seat of the elders!

They are carried up to the heaven, and down again to the deep; their soul melteth away because of the trouble.

So when they cry unto the Lord in their trouble, he delivereth them out of their distress.

Then are they glad, because they are at rest; and so he bringeth them unto the haven where they would be.

O MOST mighty and gracious good God, thy mercy is over all thy works, but in special manner hath been extended towards us, whom thou hast so powerfully and wonderfully defended. Thou hast showed us terrible things, and wonders in the deep, that we might see how powerful and gracious a God thou art; how able and ready to help those who trust in thee. Thou hast showed us how both winds and seas obey thy command; that we may learn even from them hereafter to obey thy voice, and to do thy will.

We therefore bless and glorify thy name, for this thy mercy, in saving us when we were ready to perish. And we beseech thee, make us as truly sensible now of thy mercy, as we were then of the danger; and give us hearts always ready to express our thankfulness, not only by words, but al

so by our lives, in being more obedient to thy holy commandments. Continue, we beseech thee, this thy goodness to us; that we, whom thou hast saved, may serve thee in holiness and righteousness all the days of our life, through Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour. Amen.

O BE joyful in the Lord, all ye people; serve the Lord with gladness, and come before his presence with a song. Be ye sure that the Lord he is God; it is he who hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people and the sheep of his pasture.

Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise; be thankful unto him, and speak good of his name.

For the Lord is gracious, his mercy is everlasting, and his truth endureth from generation to

generation.

THE INTRODUCTORY PRAYER.

O LORD God Almighty, before whom all creatures bow, the fountain of life and the father of all mercies, we thine unworthy servants come before thee in humble acknowledgment of thine eternal power and majesty. Thou art the living and true God; thy kingdom ruleth

over all, and thy goodness is without bounds. Assist us to worship thee in spirit and in truth; may we celebrate thy perfections and speak of thy wonderful works with reverence; give thanks unto thee, and sing thy praises with joy; humble ourselves before thee with sincere and contrite hearts; and pray unto thee in the faith that thou hearest and answerest prayer. Graciously accept these our devotions, which we offer in the name and as disciples of Jesus Christ our Lord.

May the words of our mouths, and the meditations of our hearts, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, our strength and our redeemer.
