HAVING been imbued with a love for Comparative Anatomy by the Lectures delivered by Professor Owen at St. Bartholomew's Hospital in 1835 (the first I had attended on the subject), I have availed myself of the opportunities which have been afforded by the courses of Lectures that have since been annually delivered by the same distinguished Professor in the Theatre of the Royal College of Surgeons, to keep pace with the rapidly advancing sciences of Zootomy and Physiology.

Of these valuable Lectures I have been in the habit of taking full notes, many of which, having been kindly revised by Professor Owen, have received his approbation for their fidelity.

Having reason to believe that such notes would be acceptable to the members of the Profession and other scientific men, as well as the lovers of Natural History generally, I have obtained the sanction of Professor Owen to publish those of the Hunterian Lectures for the present year. The notes will be revised by the Professor, who has also kindly promised to furnish the subjects of the most instructive diagrams used in illustration of the Lectures, and which will be incorporated by means of woodcuts with the text.
