1 There's a wideness in God's mer-cy Like the wideness of the sea;

There's a kindness in His jus-tice Which is more than li ber - ty.

There is welcome for the sin - ner, And more gra-ces for the good;

There is mer-cy with the Saviour; There is heal-ing in His blood. A-men.

2 The spirits that surround Thy throne
May bear the burning bliss;
But surely that is theirs alone
Who, undefiled, have never known
A fallen world like this.

3 O how shall I, whose native sphere
Is dark, whose mind is dim,
Before the Ineffable appear,
And on my naked spirit bear
The uncreated beam?

4 There is a way for man to rise
To that sublime abode:
An offering and a sacrifice,
A Holy Spirit's energies,
An Advocate with God:

5 These, these prepare us for the sight
Of holiness above:

The sons of ignorance and night
May dwell in the eternal Light,
Through the eternal Love!

THOMAS BINNEY, c. 1826.

I found in Him a rest - ing-place, And He has made me glad.

A-men.

I heard the voice of Jesus say,
Behold I freely give
The living water; thirsty one,
Stoop down and drink, and live.
I came to Jesus, and I drank

Of that life-giving stream;

My thirst was quenched, my soul revived,

And now I live in Him.

I heard the voice of Jesus say,
I am this dark world's light;
Look unto Me, thy morn shall
rise,

And all thy day be bright.
I looked to Jesus, and I found
In Him my Star, my Sun;
And in that light of life I'll walk
Till traveling days are done.

HORATIUS BONAR, 1846.

1 Lead, kindly Light, amid the encircling gloom,.. Lead Thou me

on!

Lead Thou me on!..

2 I was not ever thus, nor prayed that Thou
Shouldst lead me on;

I loved to choose and see my path; but now
Lead Thou me on!

I loved the garish day; and, spite of fears,
Pride ruled my will: remember not past years.
3 So long Thy power has blest me, sure it still
Will lead me on

O'er moor and fen, o'er crag and torrent, till
The night is gone;

And with the morn those angel faces smile,

Which I have loved long since, and lost awhile. Amen.
