and then sanctified and blessed in Baptism by the touch of His divine hand, may I evermore be enfolded in the arms of His tender mercies, and be united, body and soul, with Him, in the communion of His body and blood, Who in the same night that He was betrayed, took bread and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to His disciples and said, Take, eat; this is My body. And He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; for this is My blood of the New Testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. Once dedicated to my Lord in the life-giving waters of the Baptismal Laver, and now more closely joined to Him in mysterious union by the Eucharistic gifts of His body and blood, may I always abide in Him and He in me; and thus dwelling in Him and with Him may I ever enjoy the fulfilment of His own loving promise, "Peace I leave with you, My peace I give unto you, not as the world giveth give I unto you." For His Cross hath overcome sin, vanquished hell and the grave, raised from death to life, and opened unto us once more the joys of Paradise. Wherefore let me give thanks and glory to Christ, my mighty and all merciful God. Seeing then, my soul, the salvation which has been fulfilled for thee and for all men by the Saviour's cross, be thou faithful unto death, and He shall give thee a crown of life. For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed thee, and shall lead thee unto living fountains of waters, and God shall wipe away all tears from thine eyes. So then let me now lift up my soul in supplication to Christ my God, Who at the ninth hour tasted of death in the flesh, and pray that He would crucify all lusts of the flesh within me. As at this hour the veil of the temple was rent in twain ... the earth did quake, the rocks were rent, the graves were opened, and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, let

me now unveil my heart, and see that it be not duller than the earth, harder than the rocks, more closely sealed than the sepulchres of death, but let me now rise upwards in thought and affection, crying out with the penitent thief; "Lord, remember me when Thou comest into Thy kingdom."

And now, Lord, what is my hope? Truly my hope is even in Thee.-Ps. xxxix. 8.

PLEAD

SUNDAY.

PSALM XXXV.

Judica, Domine.

CAD Thou My cause, O Lord, with them that strive with Me and fight Thou against them that fight against Me.

Lay hand upon the shield and buckler and stand up to help Me.

Bring forth the spear, and stop the way against them that persecute Me: say unto My soul, I am Thy salvation.

Let them be confounded, and put to shame, that seek after My soul: let them be turned back, and brought to confusion, that imagine mischief for Me.

Let them be as the dust before the wind and the angel of the Lord scattering them. Let their way be dark and slippery the angel of the Lord persecute them.

and let

For they have privily laid their net to destroy Me without a cause: yea, even without a cause have they made a pit for My soul.

Let a sudden destruction come upon him unawares, and his net, that he hath laid privily, catch himself that he may fall into his own mischief.

And, My soul, be joyful in the Lord it shall rejoice in His salvation.

All My bones shall say, Lord, who is like unto Thee, Who deliverest the poor from him that is too strong for him yea, the poor, and him that is in misery, from him that spoileth him?

False witnesses did rise up charge things that I knew not.

they laid to My

They rewarded Me evil for good to the great discomfort of My soul.

Nevertheless, when they were sick, I put on sackcloth, and humbled My soul with fasting : and My prayer shall turn into Mine own bosom.

I behaved myself as though it had been My friend, or My brother I went heavily, as one that mourneth for his mother.

But in Mine adversity they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together: yea, the very abjects came together against Me unawares, making mouths at Me, and ceased not.

With the flatterers were busy mockers: who gnashed upon Me with their teeth.

Lord, how long wilt Thou look upon this: 0 deliver My soul from the calamities which they bring on Me, and My darling from the lions.

So will I give Thee thanks in the great congregation: I will praise Thee among much people.

O let not them that are Mine enemies triumph over Me ungodly neither let them wink with their eyes that hate Me without a cause.

And why? their communing is not for peace : but they imagine deceitful words against them that are quiet in the land.

They gaped upon Me with their mouths, and said Fie on Thee, fie on Thee, we saw it with our eyes.

This Thou hast seen, O Lord hold not Thy tongue then, go not far from Me, O Lord.

Awake, and stand up to judge My quarrel: avenge Thou My cause, My God, and My Lord.

Judge Me, O Lord My God, according to Thy righteousness and let them not triumph over

Me.

Let them not say in their hearts, There, there, so would we have it neither let them say, We have devoured Him.

Let them be put to confusion and shame together, that rejoice at My trouble let them be clothed with rebuke and dishonour, that boast themselves against Me.

Let them be glad and rejoice, that favour My righteous dealing: yea, let them say alway, Blessed be the Lord, Who hath pleasure in the prosperity of His servant.

And as for My tongue, it shall be talking of Thy righteousness: and of Thy praise all the day long. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost;

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be world without end. Amen.

PSALM CXIX.

THY

Mirabilia.

HY testimonies are wonderful therefore doth my soul keep them.

When Thy word goeth forth it giveth light and understanding unto the simple.

I opened my mouth, and drew in my breath: for my delight was in Thy commandments.

O look Thou upon me, and be merciful unto me as Thou usest to do unto those that love Thy Name.

Örder my steps in Thy word and so shall no wickedness have dominion over me.

O deliver me from the wrongful dealings of men and so shall I keep Thy commandments.

Show the light of Thy countenance upon Thy servant and teach me Thy statutes.

Mine eyes gush out with water

keep not Thy law.

:

because men

Righteous art Thou, O Lord and true is Thy judgement.

The testimonies that Thou hast commanded : are exceeding righteous and true.

because mine

My zeal hath even consumed me enemies have forgotten Thy words. Thy word is tried to the uttermost servant loveth it.

and Thy

I am small, and of no reputation: yet do I not forget Thy commandments.

Thy righteousness is an everlasting righteousness and Thy law is the truth.

Trouble and heaviness have taken hold upon me yet is my delight in Thy commandments.

The righteousness of Thy testimonies is everlasting: O grant me understanding, and I shall live.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost;

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be world without end. Amen.

TUESDAY.

PSALM CXIX.

Clamavi in toto corde meo.

CALL with my whole heart: hear me, O Lord,

If will keep Thy statutes.

Yea, even unto Thee do I call help me, and

I shall keep Thy testimonies.

:

Early in the morning do I cry unto Thee for in Thy word is my trust.

Mine eyes prevent the night-watches: that I might be occupied in Thy words.

Hear my voice, O Lord, according unto Thy loving-kindness: quicken me, according as Thou art wont.

They draw nigh that of malice persecute me : and are far from Thy law.
