THURSDAY.

SI lie down to sleep, grant me, O Lord, rest of body and soul; but keep me from the dull sleep of sin, and from all indulgence of sloth and darkness. Check the violence of passion. Quench the fiery darts of the wicked one, launched forth by his craft against me. Repress the assaults of my flesh, and allay every earthly and worldly lust within me. Grant to me, O my God, a watchful mind, chaste thoughts, sober dispositions; and give me gentle sleep free from all illusions of the evil one. Assist me in the hour of prayer, that I may stand fast in Thy commandments, and ever hold Thy judgements in firm remembrance. Give me grace through the night-season to celebrate Thy praise, to bless Thee, and to magnify Thy all-honoured and all-glorious Name, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, now, always, and ever and ever. Amen.

Or this.

(179)

GOD, Who in the beginning didst rest from all Thy works which Thou hadst made; Grant unto me that, having diligently wrought Thy works all the days of my appointed time on earth, I may at length enter into Thine everlasting rest, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. (180)

FRIDAY.

LORD Jesus, give me what Thou commandest; command what Thou desirest. Prepare my soul for Thy coming; come when it seemeth to Thee good. Give me a penitent and a patient spirit to expect Thee; and come as Thou wilt, O Thou Who art the salvation of all them that trust in Thee. Set, I beseech Thee, O Lord Jesus, Thy death, Thy cross and passion, Thy merits and Thy blood, between Thy judge

ment and my soul, now and ever, but especially in the hour of my death. Let not my death be sudden; let it not come and find me unprepared; let it not be so dreadful but that I shall keep my faith, hope, and charity, my memory, and the soundness of my mind even to the last. Be Thou my God and Protector. Grant to my sins mercy and pardon, to Thy Church peace and concord, to me the chief of sinners grace in this life and glory hereafter. Even so, Come Lord Jesus, and have mercy upon me. Amen. (181)

Or this.

INTO Thy hands I commit myself, blessed Lord,

night and for over. Thou Sun of right

eousness, keep me from utter darkness, and let me so sleep in peace that I may ever be ready to arise and meet Thee in Thy glory, Who with the Father and the Holy Ghost livest one God, world without end. Amen. (182)

(7.) SATURDAY.

VISIT, I beseech Thee, O Lord, this habita

VISIT

tion with Thy mercy, and me with Thy grace and salvation. Let Thy holy angels pitch their tents round about and dwell here, that no illusion of the night may abuse me, the spirits of darkness may not come near to hurt me, no evil or sad accident oppress me; and let the eternal Spirit of the Father dwell in my soul and body, filling every corner of my heart with light and grace. Let no deed of darkness overtake me; and let Thy blessing, most blessed God, be upon me for ever, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Into Thy hands, most blessed Jesu, I commend my soul and body, for Thou hast redeemed both with Thy most precious blood. So bless and sanctify my sleep unto me, that it may be

temperate, holy, and safe, a refreshment to my wearied body, to enable it so to serve my soul that both may serve Thee with a neverfailing duty. O let me never sleep in sin or death eternal, but give me a watchful and a prudent spirit, that I may omit no opportunity of serving Thee; that whether I sleep or wake, live or die, I may be Thy servant; that when the work of my life is done I may rest in the bosom of my Lord, till, by the voice of the archangel, the trump of God, I shall be awakened, and called to sit down and feast in the eternal supper of the Lamb. Grant this, O Lamb of God, for the honor of Thy mercies, and the glory of Thy Name, O most merciful Saviour and Redeemer Jesus. Amen.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus, Who hath sent His angels, and kept me this day from the destruction that walketh at noon, and the arrow that flieth by day; and hath given me His Spirit to restrain me from those evils to which my own weaknesses, and my evil habits, and my unquiet enemies, would easily betray me. Blessed and for ever hallowed be Thy Name, for that never-ceasing shower of blessing by which I live, and am content and blessed, and provided for in all necessities, and set forward in my duty and way to heaven. Blessing, honour, glory, and power be unto Him that sitteth on the throne, and to the Lamb, for ever and ever. Amen.

Holy is our God, holy is the Almighty, holy is the Immortal; holy, holy, holy, Lord God of Sabaoth, have mercy upon me. (183)

PRES

Or this.

RESERVE me, O Lord, during the hours of the coming night, and keep me while I sleep; that so, watching, I may be with Christ, and sleeping I may be at peace. Amen.

Intercessory Prayer, to be said daily, or upon
Sunday and Tuesday.

Bento the now, which fan but dust and ashes.

EHOLD now, I have taken upon me to speak

Gen. xviii. 27.

Unto Thee lift I up mine eyes,

O Thou that dwellest in the heavens.

Arise, O Lord, and help us,

And save us for Thy mercy's sake.

OOK, O Lord, in mercy upon Thy Holy Ca

Bishops, sanctify its Priests, and fill its Deacons with humility. Plant in us the unity of love; prepare for us the way of righteousness; give purity to the single, mutual love to the married, kindliness to the rich, modesty to those who are high exalted, help to the needy: strengthen the aged, teach the young, convert the unbelieving, forgive the penitent: remove from Thy Church all heresies and schisms, and make us all one in faith and holiness. Have mercy upon our Queen, and upon all who serve her in her courts, her army, and her navy. Have mercy upon all travellers, and bring them safely to their home. Give to the sick health, to the sorrowful comfort, to prisoners liberty: take to Thine own charge the orphans, help the widows, support the poor, raise up them that fall, and strengthen those who stand. Give to Thy people one heart; give peace to the world, sweetness to the air: bless the winds of heaven and the fruits of the earth; and crown the year with Thy goodness; for the eyes of all wait upon Thee, that Thou mayst give them their meat in due season. Deal with us after Thy mercy, Thou that givest food to all flesh; fill our hearts with joy and gladness, that we may always receive all things needful for us, and a

bound in every good work, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Or this.

(185)

OOK, O Lord, upon Thy Church which Thou

all heresy and schism, all strife and contention, all temptations to which in its weakness it might yield. Free Thy people from famine, and war, and pestilence: give them times of peace and abundance, healthy seasons, fruitful harvests, and plenty of all good things: through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. (186)

Thanksgiving, to be said daily, or upon Monday and Thursday.

Praise the Lord, O my soul!

And all that is within me, praise His holy Name.

Now the Thy Name, Almighty God;

OW that the day has come to its end, I

and I beseech Thy mercy, that, whatsoever evil I have this day contracted through the frailty of the flesh, Thou wouldest vouchsafe to pardon, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. (187)

I

The Blessing.

COMMEND myself, and mine, and all that I have, to Him Who is able to keep us from falling, and to present us faultless before the presence of His glory, to the only wise God and our Saviour, to Whom be glory and majesty, dominion and power, now and for ever. Amen. (188)
