Behold, God is my helper: the Lord is with them that uphold my soul.

He shall reward evil unto mine enemies destroy Thou them in Thy truth.

An offering of a free heart will I give Thee, and praise Thy Name, O Lord because it is so comfortable.

For He hath delivered me out of all my trouble and mine eye hath seen his desire upon mine enemies.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost;

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be world without end. Amen.

The Lesson.

THUS saith the Lord, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: but let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth Me, that I am the Lord which exercise loving-kindness, judgement, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the Lord.-Jerem. ix. 23, 24.

Or the Lesson appointed in the table, or some other portion of Holy Scripture.

The Hymn.

YHRIST, Whose glory fills the skies,

only

Sun of Righteousness, arise,

Triumph o'er the shades of night!
Dayspring from on high, be near!
Daystar, in my heart appear!
Dark and cheerless is the morn,
Unaccompanied by Thee;
Joyless is the day's return,

Till Thy mercy's beams I see;

Till they inward light impart,
Glad my eyes and warm my heart.
Visit then this soul of mine,

Pierce the gloom of sin and grief!
Fill me, Radiancy Divine,

Scatter all my unbelief!
More and more Thyself display,
Shining to the perfect day!

Or this.

NOW

OW that the daylight fills the sky,
Lift we our hearts to God on high,
That He in all we do or say
Would keep us free from harm to-day.

May He restrain our tongues, lest strife
Break forth to mar the peace of life;
And guard with watchful care our eyes
From earth's absorbing vanities.

Oh, may our inmost hearts be pure,
Our thoughts from folly kept secure,
The pride of fleshly sense subdued
By temperate use of drink and food!

So when the daylight leaves the sky,
And night's dark hours once more are nigh,
May we, unsoiled by sinful stain,
Sing glory to our God again.

All praise to God the Father be:
All praise, Eternal Son, to Thee,
Whom with the Spirit, we adore,
One God, both now and evermore!

Amen.

The Song of Zacharias.

BENEDICTUS. St. Luke i.

BLESS

LESSED be the Lord God of Israel: for He hath visited, and redeemed His people;

And hath raised up a mighty salvation for us: in the house of His servant David;

As He spake by the mouth of His holy Prophets which have been since the world began;

That we should be saved from our enemies : and from the hands of all that hate us;

To perform the mercy promised to our forefathers and to remember His holy Covenant;

To perform the oath which He sware to our forefather Abraham: that He would give us ;

That we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve Him without fear;

In holiness and righteousness before Him: all the days of our life.

And thou, Child, shalt be called the Prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare His ways;

To give knowledge of salvation unto His people : for the remission of their sins,

Through the tender mercy of our God: whereby the day-spring from on high hath visited us;

To give light to them that sit in darkness, and in the shadow of death and to guide our feet into the way of peace.

:

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost;

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be world without end. Amen.

Or the Song of Moses.

CANTICUM DOMINO. Exodus xv.

I

WILL sing unto the Lord, for He hath triumphed gloriously: the Lord is my strength and song, and He is become my salvation.

He is my God, and I will prepare Him an habitation my father's God, and I will exalt Him.

Thy right hand, O Lord, is become glorious in

power: Thy right hand, O Lord, hath dashed in pieces the enemy.

Who is like unto Thee, O Lord, among the gods who is like unto Thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?

Thou in Thy mercy hast led forth the people which Thou hast redeemed: Thou hast guided them in Thy strength unto Thy holy habitation.

Thou shalt bring them in and plant them in the mountain of Thine inheritance;

In the place, O Lord, which Thou hast made for Thee to dwell in in the sanctuary, O Lord, which Thy hands have established.

The Lord shall reign for ever and ever : Alleluia.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost;

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be world without end. Amen.

Here may be said the Apostles' Creed, p. 1.
Lord, hear my prayer.

And let my crying come unto Thee.

Then the Prayers following, or any of them, or one for each day of the week.

HOLY and eternal Jesus, Who hast overcome death, and triumphed over all the powers of hell, darkness, sin, and the grave; manifesting the truth of Thy promises, the power of Thy divinity, and the majesty of Thy person, by Thy glorious and powerful resurrection: Preserve my soul from eternal death, and make me to rise from the death of sin, and to live the life of grace; loving Thy perfections, adoring Thy mercy, pursuing the interest of Thy kingdom; being united to the Church under Thee, our Head; conforming to Thy holy laws; established in faith, confirmed with hope,

and sanctified by charity; that I, engraving Thee in my heart, and submitting to Thee in my spirit, and imitating Thee in Thy glorious example, may be partaker of Thy resurrection; which is my hope and my desire, the support of my faith, the object of my joy, and the strength of my confidence. In Thee, holy Jesus, do I trust: I confess Thy faith, I believe all that Thou hast taught; I desire to perform all Thy commandments; my soul is in Thy hand; do Thou support and guide it, and pity my infirmities; and, when Thou shalt reveal Thy great day, show to me the mercies and the effects of Thy advocacy, and intercession, and redemption. Thou shalt answer for me, O Lord my God; for in Thee have I trusted, let me never be confounded. Thou art just, Thou art merciful, Thou art gracious and compassionate; Thou hast done miracles of loving kindness to me and all the world. Let not those great actions and sufferings be ineffective; but make me capable of Thy mercies, and grant that I may receive them. I am Thine, O save me! Thou art mine, O holy Jesus! O dwell with me for ever, and let me dwell with Thee, adoring and praising the eternal glories of God the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen. (34)
