for even thereafter as a man feareth, so is Thy displeasure.

So teach us to number our days that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.

:

Turn Thee again, O Lord, at the last and be gracious unto Thy servants.

O satisfy us with Thy mercy, and that soon : so shall we rejoice and be glad all the days of our life.

Comfort us again now after the time that Thou hast plagued us and for the years wherein we have suffered adversity.

Show Thy servants Thy work and their children Thy glory.

And the glorious Majesty of the Lord our God be upon us prosper Thou the work of our hands upon us, O prosper Thou our handy-work.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost;

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be world without end. Amen.

PSALM CXLII.

Voce mea ad Dominum.

CRIED unto the Lord with My voice: yea, even unto the Lord did I make My supplication.

I poured out My complaints before Him and showed Him of My trouble.

When My spirit was in heaviness Thou knewest My path in the way wherein I walked have they privily laid a snare for Me.

I looked also upon My right hand and saw there was no man that would know Me.

I had no place to flee unto and no man cared for My soul.

I cried unto Thee, O Lord, and said: Thou

art My hope, and My portion in the land of the living.

Consider My complaint: for I am brought very low.

O deliver Me from My persecutors for they are too strong for Me.

Bring My soul out of prison, that I may give thanks unto Thy Name: which thing if Thou wilt grant Me, then shall the righteous resort unto My company.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost;

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be world without end. Amen.

The Lesson.

HEARD a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. And He that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new.-Rev. xxi. 3-5.

Evening Hymn.

[AIL, gladdening Light, of His pure glory poured

Who is the Immortal Father, Heavenly, Blest, Holiest of Holies, Jesu Christ, our Lord.

Now we are come to the sun's hour of rest,
The lights of evening round us shine,

We hymn the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

Worthiest art Thou at all times to be sung
With undefiled tongue,

Son of our God, Giver of life, Alone;

Therefore in all the world Thy glories, Lord,

they own. Amen.

MAGNIFICAT. S. Luke i.

MY soul doth magnify the Lord : and my spirit

hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.

For He hath regarded the lowliness of His hand-maiden.

For behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.

For He that is mighty hath magnified me: and holy is His Name.

And His mercy is on them that fear Him : throughout all generations.

He hath showed strength with His arm: He hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.

He hath put down the mighty from their seat and hath exalted the humble and meek.

He hath filled the hungry with good things : and the rich He hath sent empty away.

He remembering His mercy hath holpen His servant Israel as He promised to our forefathers, Abraham and his seed, for ever.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost;

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be world without end. Amen.

Or this Psalm.

PSALM VIII.

Domine, Dominus noster.

LORD our Governour, how excellent is Thy
Name in all the world: Thou that hast set

Thy glory above the heavens!

Out of the mouth of very babes and sucklings hast Thou ordained strength, because of Thine enemies that Thou mightest still the enemy, and the avenger.

For I will consider Thy heavens, even the works of Thy fingers the moon and the stars, which Thou hast ordained.

What is man, that Thou art mindful of him : and the son of man, that Thou visitest him?

Thou madest him lower than the angels: to crown him with glory and worship.

Thou makest him to have dominion of the works of Thy hands and Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet;

All sheep and oxen: yea, and the beasts of the field;

The fowls of the air, and the fishes of the sea and whatsoever walketh through the paths of the seas.

O Lord our Governour: how excellent is Thy Name in all the world!

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost;

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be world without end. Amen.

Here may be said the Apostles' Creed, p. 1; or the Creed of S. Athanasius, p. 1.

Lord, hear my prayer.

And let my crying come unto Thee.

Then the Prayers following, or any of them, or one for each day of the week.

SUNDAY.

GOD, ineffable, without beginning, without end, Maker of all things, Who from Thy bosom hast sent down Thy beloved Son to take upon Him our life that He might give us His life and be perfect God and perfect Man; both

Shepherd and Sheep, dying in the flesh but living with Thee eternally; Grant, I beseech Thee, that with Thy Son I may in all things honour and glorify Thee. Through Him grant me remission of all my sins, obedience to Thy commandments, love of Thee, and perfect charity towards my brethren. May my heart conceive no inward iniquity, my tongue speak no outward evil. I pray that Thou wouldest strengthen me truly to fulfil Thy precepts, to correct whatever I find wrong within me, to hold fast what is right, to maintain what is healthful, to confirm what is weak. Grant me grace moreover to despise earthly things, to love heavenly things, so that I may count the world dead unto myself, being neither beguiled by its joys nor overwhelmed by its sorrows. And since Thine only begotten Son hath said, "No man can come to Me, except the Father which hath sent Me draw him;" I beseech Thee, O Lord, and entreat Thee in my supplication, that Thou wouldest draw me unto Him, and may He lead me even unto Thee, where is everlasting life, everlastingly blessed, where there is no fear, but one universal Spirit, where Thou with Him and He with Thee in the Communion of the Holy Ghost eternally liveth and reigneth God throughout all ages. Amen. (145)

I

Or this.

BESEECH Thee, O Lord, let my heart be graciously enlightened by the holy radiance of Thy Son's Incarnation; that so I may escape the darkness of this world, and by His guidance attain to the country of eternal brightness; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. (146)
