Unto Thee lift I up mine eyes,

O Thou that dwellest in the heavens. Arise, O Lord, and help us,

And save us for Thy mercy's sake.

CHRIST, the King of Glory, have mercy upon Thy Church, and adorn with Thy fear all Bishops, Priests, and Deacons therein; give them peace, and enable them with great power to preach Thy Gospel: Bless our Queen, and give her the victory over all that strive against her: and remove from Thy people all the assaults of their enemies, visible or invisible, and strengthen us in peace and quietness all the days of our life. To Thee I commend my parents, wife, children, brothers and sisters, benefactors, and all for whom I ought to pray. May Thy grace, perfectness, and life eternal be granted to them all. Support the old by Thy strength: make the young temperate by Thy loving watchfulness: teach the children, and bring them up in the true faith: have mercy upon the sick and the afflicted: and preserve us all by Thy glorious death and resurrection, that we may ever praise and glorify Thee, with the Father and the Holy Ghost, world without end. Amen. (50)

For other prayers see p. 186.

Thanksgiving to be said daily, or upon Tuesday and Saturday.

Praise the Lord, O my soul.

And all that is within me, praise His holy Name.

Ofth etern mercy that Thou hast

GOD Omnipotent, eternal fountain of all good,

preserved me, Thy unworthy and unprofitable servant, through the past night, and hast brought me safe to the beginning of this day. Defend me, O Lord, I pray Thee, this day from every sin,

and so fill me with Thy Spirit that this day I may neither think, say, nor do anything but what may be acceptable to Thee, and tend to the glory of Thy Name, and the good of my own and of others' souls. O God of Holiness, grant that under Thy guidance I may be directed in the way of peace, health, and safety, and may finally approach unto Thee in the heavenly country, there to praise and serve Thee for ever, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. (51)

I

Or this.

GIVE Thee thanks, Holy Lord, Father Almighty, everlasting God, Who hast been pleased to bring me through the night to the hours of morning; I pray Thee to grant me to pass this day without sin, so that at eventide I may again give thanks to Thee; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Blessing.

(52)

THE glorious majesty of the Lord my God be upon me; prosper Thou the work of my hands upon me; O prosper Thou my handy-work. Amen.

GIFT OF THE HOLY GHOST.

IN the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and

O Thou that hearest prayer, unto Thee shall all flesh come.-Ps. lxv. 2.

Or, the Form of Confession, p. 6.

UR Father, which art in heaven, Hallowed be

be done in earth, As it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; But deliver us from evil: For Thine is the kingdom, The power, and the glory, For ever and ever. Amen.

Meditation (to be omitted during the week
before Easter).

"IT is expedient for you that I go away: for if

Ι go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send Him unto you."-S. John xvi. 7.

Most blessed gift, that could make even her Lord's departure from His Church expedient for her! From the eyes of His admiring Apostles, while in the midst of blessing them on Olivet, their Lord was carried up into Heaven, ascended up on high, led captivity captive, and received gifts for men. Yea, and those gifts He gave. May I, unworthy though I am, be yet deemed worthy to partake of them. And as about this third hour of the day all the house where the Apostles were sitting was filled with the Pentecostal gifts of the Comforter, so may there now be fulfilled in the earthly tabernacle of my inmost being those prophetic words of Divine Promise, "I will pour out My spirit upon all flesh."

Oh, my soul, seek now that celestial gift: pray that the blest Paraclete may descend now dovelike upon Thee: that the heavenly King, Spirit of Truth, everywhere present and filling all things, Treasury of Good, and Fountain of Life, may come and dwell within me, cleanse me from every stain, and of His goodness grant me salvation.
