PSALM V.-O. V.

SUCH as be foolish shall not stand
In sight of Thee, O Lord;
Vain workers of iniquity

Thou ever hast abhorr'd.

I, therefore to Thy house will come,
Trusting upon Thy grace;
And rev'rently will worship Thee
Towards Thy holy place.

Let all who put their trust in Thee
Be glad, O Lord, always;
And render thanks for Thy defence,
And give Thy name the praise.

For Thou with favour wilt increase
The just and righteous still;

And with Thy grace, as with a shield
Defend him from all ill.

PSALM VIII.

O THOU, to whom all creatures bow
Within this earthly frame;

Thro' all the world how great art Thou,
How glorious is Thy name.

In heav'n Thy wondrous acts are sung
Nor fully reckoned there;

And yet Thou mak'st the infant tongue
Thy boundless praise declare.

Through Thee the weak confound the strong
And crush the haughty foes;

And so thou quell'st the wicked throng,
That Thee and Thine oppose.

O Thou, to whom all creatures bow
Within this earthly frame,

Thro' all the world how great art Thou,
How glorious is Thy name.

PSALM IX.

THE Lord for ever lives, who has
His righteous throne prepared,
Impartial justice to dispense,
To punish or reward.

God is a constant sure defence
Against oppressing rage :

As troubles rise, His needful aids

In our behalf engage.

All those who have His goodness prov'd, Will in his truth confide,

Whose mercy ne'er forsook the man

That on His help relied.

Sing praises therefore to the Lord,

From Sion, His abode;

Proclaim His deeds till all the world
Confess no other God.

PSALM XV.

WHO is the man that may, O Lord,

To Thy blest courts repair, Or to Thy holy place ascend, And still inhabit there?

'Tis he, whose every thought and deed By rules of virtue moves;

Whose generous tongue disdains to speak The thing his heart disproves :

Who never did a slander forge,
His neighbour's fame to wound,
Or hearken to a false report,
By malice whispered round.

The man who by his steady course

Has happiness ensur'd,

When earth's foundation shakes, shall stand By Providence secur'd.

PSALM XVI·

I strive each action to approve,
To God's all-seeing eye!
No danger shall my hopes remove
Because He still is nigh.

Therefore my heart all grief defies,
My glory shall rejoice;

My flesh shall rest, in hope to rise,
Wak'd by His pow'rful voice.

Thou, Lord, when I resign my breath,
My soul from hell shalt free;
For He, Thy Holy One, in death
Did no corruption see.

Thou shalt the paths of life display, Which to Thy presence lead; Where pleasures dwell without allay, And joys that never fade.
