ceafe in the earth, and all men will acknow ledge the Unity of God, and his kingdom: agreeable to what the prophet Zechariah faid, (14.9.) " And the LORD thall be king over all the earth in that day the LORD. alone shall be acknowledged, and his name (fhall alfo be) one.'

"

From the explanation here given of this important prophecy, the fix following fundamental principles are deducible.. First, The vengeance which God will take on all the nations for the evil they have done to Ifrael as mentioned ver. 15-16. "For the day of the LORD (is) near upon all the nations. All the nations round about shall drink they fhall drink and fhall fwallow down; and they fhall be as though they had not been." And which agrees with the first principle contained in the prophecies of Ifaiah.

Second, the particular vengeance which God will take on Edom in the latter days, according to the decreed confummation: as mentioned ver. 9.—18. "That every one may be cut off from the mount of Efau.-And there fhall not be (any) remaining of

the house of Efau : for the LORD had spoken it." And which agrees with the fecond principle of the prophecies of Ifaiah.

Third, the redemption and falvation of the nation; as mentioned in ver. 17. &c. &c. "And the houfe of Jacob fhall poffefs their poffeffions." &c. &c. And which agrees with the third principle of the prophecies of Ifaiah.

Fourth, the return of the ten tribes; as mentioned, ver. 18-19. "And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Jofeph a flame; - And they fhall poffefs the field of Ephraim, and the field of Samaria:" And which agrees with the fourth principle of the prophecies of Ifaiah,

Fifth, that the Shechinah, or divine prefence will be restored to Ifrael; as mentioned ver. 17. "But upon mount Zion fhall be deliverance, and there fhall be holiness:" And which agrees with the eighth principle of the prophecies of Isaiah.

Sixth, that all the world will then acknowledge the Unity of God, and his kingdom: as mentioned ver. 21. And the kingdom shall be the LORD's." And which

agrees

agrees with the twelfth principle of the prophecies of Ifaiah.

Now, it is impoffible to explain thofe promifes as being accomplished at the return of the Jews from Babylon; for then, the ten tribes did not return and it is they who are to be inftrumental in the deftruction of the house of Elau; as mentioned ver. 18. "And the houfe of Jofeph a flame;" &c. And it is well known to every perfon, the least converfant in Scripture, that the house of Jofeph, denotes the ten tribes, called the kingdom of Ifrael; fo that it cannot be said, that at their return from Babylon, the house of Jofeph was a flame, and the house of Efau ftubble; and which was to be burnt and confumed by the houfe of Jofeph for the fubjection of the Idumeans, was effected by Hyrcanus of the race of the Afmoneans, of the house of Aaron the Prieft; and not of the house of Jofeph as the houfe of Joseph did not return, when thofe of Judah and Benjamin, and the Priefts and Levites returned from Babylon. Befides, the house of Efau, was not then totally confumed, fo that there was not any remaining of the house

of

of Efau neither was every one cut off from the mount of Efau by flaughter. We may also ask, at what time did thole of the captivity who were in France and Spain inherit the cities of the fouth; and when did deliverers go up to judge the mount of Efau ? And it is alfo clear, that God did not then take vengeance on the other nations, as here defcribed by the prophet. From all which, it is manifeft to demonstration, that this prophecy was not fulfilled at their return from Babylon, nor during the reign of the Afmonean princes. And it is equally clear, from the acts recorded of Jefus in the New Teftament, that none of thofe principles were accomplished in his perfon; or during his ministry. And it would only be a waste. of time, to prove that, they cannot by any means be applied to the fpiritualizing scheme of the Chriftians: whence it is demonftrable, that this prophecy remains to be accomplished at the future redemption of the whole nation, by the hands of the true Meffiah. Amen.

DISSERTATION X.

The prophecies of Micah.

THE tenth who prophefied concerning the future redemption, and falvation of the nation, and the punishment of their enemies, was Micah the Morafthite; and from whom, I fhall felect two prophecies, which speak in a clear, and unequivocal manner of their future reftoration, and the peace and happiness, both spiritual and temporal which they are then to enjoy; together with the restoration of the kingdom to the houfe of David.

The first prophecy commences Chap. iv. ver. I. and is continued to the laft verfe of Chap. vi.

Before we proceed to the explanation of this prophecy, it is neceffary to premise, that the subject matter of the four first verses of this prophecy, is the fame, as that delivered by Ifaiah, in the fecond, third, and fourth
