THE present volume is a reprint of one which appeared in America in the course of last year; with a few omissions, and slight alterations in point of arrangement, which have been recommended by the original editor. On his return home last autumn from his visit to this country, the Bishop of New Jersey found the volume which he had prepared for publication before his departure had just left the press; and at the same time that he sent copies to some of his friends in England, he strongly expressed the opinion that the 'character and course of life" of his lamented friend and relation were "such as might exercise at this time a wholesome influence in England." The friends who were consulted concurring entirely in that opinion, and the publisher of the "Oxford Editions" having readily undertaken the work, it now appears in its present form. In letters since received, the Bishop of New Jersey expresses warmly the satisfaction which he has derived from the interest taken "in the remains of one who was and is so dear to" him.
