PREFACE.

"

Ir may seem superfluous to usher this unpretending little Work into the world by anything in the form of a Preface. Suffice it to say, in justification of the undertaking, that "Questions on the Acts" were called for, in various quarters, as soon as those on "The Gospel of Matthew' had become known. Several years have elapsed since "The History of our Lord," in question and answer, issued from the press; and the writer began immediately to devote her leisure to the study of that important section of the New Testament-The Acts of the Apostles. The result of her labours is now submitted to the Public, with feelings of unfeigned gratitude for the favourable and continued attention bestowed

upon the publication to which this forms a

sequel.

The Author would devoutly record her thankfulness to Him, who has granted life and opportunity for this fresh effort to diffuse sound Scriptural knowledge among the rising youth of our country, at the present new and critical era of its ecclesiastical history.

HIGHBURY,

THE

ACTS OF THE APOSTLES.

INTRODUCTORY QUESTIONS.

WHO was the writer of this book? The Evangelist Luke. What evidence is there that it was written by Luke? The opening of the book, its dedication, and its style of composition, clearly show that Luke was the writer of it. When was it written? About the year of our Lord 62-63. Where was it written? Most probably at Rome. Is the term "Acts" used to signify decrees or laws of the Apostles? No; it expresses the doings of the Apostles. Of what is it a faithful record? Of what the Apostles did, in founding and establishing Christian Churches. What is one of the most important facts narrated in the Acts of the Apostles? The descent of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost.
