Ordered that the paper Sent up to this board for their concurrence Entituled An Act for the Support of the Government for his majestys province of New Jersey for two years be sent back to the Generall Assembly that they may If they think fitt passe the same it not appearing to this board that it is past into a Bill by the said Generall Assembly

The Clarke of the councill acquainted this board that he had Carryed the paper intituled An Act for the Support of the Government of his Majestys province of New Jersey for two Years to the house and had therewith delivered the meswhich in the forenoon he was ordered by this board

A Message from the Assembly by Joseph Bonnell and Philip Scuyler with the bill intituled An Act for the Support of the Government of this his Majestys province of New Jersey for two Years Acquainting this board that the Assembly had passed the Same and desireing the concurrence of this board thereto

Ordered that Said Bill be read And the Said Bill having been Read the first time Ordered a Second reading

Then the said bill was read the Second time and Committed to the Gentlemen of this board or any five of them

A Message from the Assembly by Joseph Bonnell and Philip Suyler with the Bill intituled An Act for Settling the Millitia and rendring of it usefull for the defence of this province and one amendment thereto and Acquainted this board that they had past the said bill with one Amendment and desired the concurrence of this board thereto

Ordered that the said Amendment be read Which being read and Considered of This board disagrees to the said amendment

Ordered that Peter Bard do carry the said Bill with the Amendment to the house of Representatives and acquaint them that this board disagrees to their said Amendment

Att a Councill held att Burlington the 4th of May 1721

His Excellency acquainted this board that the Safety of the province of New Yorke in which this province is So Nearly Concerned requireing his Excellencys attendance there to meet the assembly of that province on the 9th of May and the assembly here having not finished the important business for which they were called Severall bills yett depending unfinished he desired their opinion on this occasion

It is the opinion of this board that his Excellency's attending the assembly of New Yorke is necessary and also that of this province with as little delay to both as is possible and the present distance being So great that its impracticable they therefore Judge itt Necessary that the assembly be adjourned to Perth Amboy to Such time as his Excellency Shall think fitt

Ordered that the assembly be forthwith adjourned to munday the 8th of this Instant

A Message from the Assembly with the Bill Intituled An Act for preventing the multiplicity of Law Suits Acquainting this board that they had passed the same and desired the concurrence of this board thereto Ordered that it be read the first time & Ordered a Second reading

Att A Council held at Burlington the 5th day of May

John Parker chairman of the committee to whom was referred the bill Intituled an act for the Support of the Government of his majestys province of New Jersey for two years to Commence from the twenty third day of September last past and to End the twenty third day of September one thousand Seven hundred and twenty two acquainted this board that said Committee had gone through the said bill and made some amendments thereto which he was ready to report when this board would please to receive the Same

Ordered the said Report be made Imediatly then said John Parker Reported the Severall Amendments in his place which were approved of by this board nemine contra dicente

Ordered that said Bill be read the third time as amended which bill being read the third time with the Amendments is passed Nemine Contra dicente as amended

Ordered that John Parker Esq do Carry the said Bill with the Amendments to the house of Representatives to Acquaint them that this board has past the Same with Some Amendments

Att a Councill held att Perth Amboy May 13th 1721

the cause Joseph woodruff plaintiff and Jacob Daniel Defendant in Error Depending before this board

Ordered that munday the 19th day of June next be and is hereby appointed for hearing the said Cause and that the Plaintiff in Error be Served with this Order

A message from the Assembly by Captain Bonnell and Mr Hall in these words

Ordered that Captain Bonnell & Mr Hall do carry the Bill Intituled An Act to Settle the millitia & to the Councill and acquaint them that this house do adhere to their Amend

ment

Ordered that Captain Bonnell & Mr Hall do Carry the bill for Support of Government to the councill and Acquaint them that this house disallowes their amendments

His Excellency Acquainted this board that he had observed a Clause in the votes of the house of Representatives of the 12th P M in these words

A Motion being made and the Question being putt whether this house will allow any Amendments to be made by the Councill to the bill for Support of Government or not it was Carryed in the Negative

Resolved that noe amendment be made by the councill to the said Bill

Upon Consideration of the message and clause above this board Come to the following Resolutions

Ordered that Peter Bard Esqre waite on the house of Representatives & acquaint them that this board desire them to Appoint A Committee of their house to Confer with a Committee of this board

Ordered that the Clarke of the Councill do Acquaint the house of Representatives that his Excellency requires the Attendance of the Assembly Imediatly

The Speaker with the house attending his Excellency Spoke to them as follows

Gentlemen

You may be assured it is with a Great deall of uneasyness that I find my Selfe Oblidged to Speake to you in a Strain that can neither be agreeable to your Inclinations nor to my own, Especially when you have the honour to represent a people whose Intrest I have So much att hart, But while his majestys Instructions and the Ease of the Inhabitants of this Collony are my rule, and your private views & Resentments are yours it is not probable that we shall Agree in Our Sentiments, and Sence you have Endeavoured even in your last address to Justifye part of your former Conduct and to Charge
