His Excellency Acquainted the Councill of A Message he recieved from the House by Mr Samuell Smith & Mr Thomas Hall desiring this Board would be pleased to Appoynt A Comittie to Joyne A Comittie of the House to View the Treasurers Accounts. Ordered that the Clerk of the Councill Imediately go to the House and Acquaint them, that A Comittie of this Board has Appoynted to meet the Comittie of the whole House to day At twelve A Clock In the meeting House.

John Hamilton Esqr Reported from the Comittie Appoynted to meet A Comittie of the Representatives that the Representatives had Agreed to meet them to View the Treasurers Accounts any time when the sd Accounts were ready to be produced by the Treasurer.

Ordered that John Hamilton & David Lyall Esqrs prepare An ordinance for Regulating the Wherries going betwixt Burlington & Philadelphia, and Also for Regulating the Boats, who carry passengers & Goods between Perth-Amboy & New-York, As Also for Regulating of Ferries In this province of New Jersey.

P: M: The Sheriff of Burlington County Having brought William Hall & Richard Bull before this Board According to A Warrant directed to 8d Sheriff

Ordered that the Sheriff of sd County of Burlington keepe sd Richard Bull & William Hall In safe Custody until they Enter Into Recognizance before one of His Majesties Councill or one of the Judges of the Supreme Court, to Appeare at the next Supreme Court to be held for this Province of New-Jersey At Burlington the first tuesday In May next In the sum of five Hundred pounds Each, with sureties In the sum of two Hundred & fiftie pounds for Each of them to ansuere to what shall be objected Against them on the part & behalf of His Majestie, and In the mean time to be of the Good behaviour.

The two following Bills were read the first time and ordered a Second Reading, (viz)

The Bill for Laying An Excise on All Strong Liquors Retailed within this Collonie of New Jersey

The Bill to Prevent unseasonable burning the Woods

At A Councill held At Chesterfield December the 31st 1716

Present

His Excellency Robert Hunter Esq' Governour &

And the Members of His Majestie's Councill before mention'd

The two followeing Bills were Read the second time & Comitted (viz)

The Bill for Laying an Excise on All strong Liquors Retailed within this Collonie of New Jersey The Bill to prevent unseasonable burning the Woods. A Message from the House of Representatives was read desiring that His Excellency would Appoynt A Comittie of this Board to meet a Comittie of the said House to confer on the Establishment of some fees that are not sufficiently provided for In the ordinance for Establishing of fees.

Ordered that George Deacon, Thomas Gordon, John Hamilton, Elisha Parker & David Lyall Esqrs or any three or more of them be a Comittie to meet A Comittie of the House thereupon At four A Clock In the Afternoone or what other time they shall think fitt.

At A Councill held At Chesterfield Januarie the fifth 1716

John Anderson Esqr Reported from the Comittie to whom the Bill to prevent unseasonable burning the Woods was Referred, that they had Agreed to Severall Amendments which he was directed to Report, when they were ready to receive the same Ordered that the s Report be made Imediately And ye sd John Anderson Esq' Reported the Amendments In His Place which he Afterwards laid on y° Table

And the said Amendments being severally Read were Agreed to by this Board.

Ordered that the said Bill with the Amendments be read the third time, which being Read was Agreed to by this Board.

Ordered that John Anderson Esq' do carry the said Bill with the Amendments to the House of Representatives for their concurrence.

John Reading Esq' Reported from the Comittie to whom the Bill for Laying An Excise on All strong Liquors Retailed within this Collony of New-Jersey was Referr'd that they had Agreed to severall Amendments which he was

directed to Report to this Board, when they were ready to Receive them

Ordered that the said Report be made Immediately

And the s John Reading Esq' Reported the Amendments In his Place, which he Afterwards laid on the Table, And the s Amendments being severally Read were Agreed to by this Board

ordered yt ye sd Bill As Amended be Read yo 3d time which being read was Agreed to & past by this Board

Ordered that John Reading Esqr: do carry the sa Bill with the Amendments to the House of Representatives for their

concurrence.

John Hamilton Esqr: from the Comittie who were to joyne A Comittie of the House of Representatives About the Establishment of some Fees, Reported that the two Comitties had Agreed upon some additionall fees which they prayed His Excellency to Establish Into An ordinance.

His Excellency ordered the Councill to draw up An ordinance Accordingly.

The Bill to Enforce the payment of 340: ounces 2: pennie wt &: 16: Grains of Plate, Due from the Inhabitants of the Towneships of Chesterfield, Mansefield, Towne & Towneship of Burlington, Springfield, Northampton, Wellingborrow, Chester & Eversham-All In the County of Burlington, being their part of the £5000 Tax for ye year 1714. was Read the first time, and ordered A second Reading.
