The two followeing Bills were Read the second time & Comittied to the Gentlemen of the Councill or any three or more of them.-(viz)

The Bill for the better Laying out, Regulating & preserving Publick Roads & Highways thro'out this Province

The Bill to Enforce the Payment of three Hundred & fourty ounces two penny wt & sixteen Grains of Plate, Due from the Inhabitants of the Towneships of Chesterfield, Mansefield, Towne and Towneship of Burlington, Springfield, Northampton Wellenborough, Chester & Eversham, All In the County of Burlington, being their part of the £5000 Tax for the year 1714.

The Bill for Laying An Excise on All strong Liquors Retailed within this Collony of New-Jersey, was sent up from the House of Representatives for the Concurrence of this Board to severall Amendments they had made on it which was read, and the severall Amendments Agreed to.

Ordered the said Bill to be Engrossed.

Ordered that John Reading Esq' do Acquaint the House of Representatives that this House had Agreed to said Bill with their Amendments, and ordered the same to be Engrossed.

A Message from the House of Representatives that they had Agreed to the Amendments made by the Councill on the Bill to Prevent unseasonable burning the Woods with one Amendment.

Ordered that the said Bill be Read with the Amendment— The same was Read & Agreed to by this Board.

Ordered that the said Bill be Engrossed.

Ordered that John Reading Esqr: do Acquaint the House of Representatives that this Board had Agreed to said Bill with their Amendments, and ordered It to be Engrost.

Upon A Verball Message from the House of Representatives concerning the hardships people would be under who brew Beere, Metheglan & Syder Royall by means of the Bill for Laying An Excise on All Strong Liquors & binding them [not] to sell any Quantity of s Liquors less than A barrell

David Lyall Esqr one of the farmars of said Excise has voluntary promised to this Board for himselfe & All concerned therein, that any of the Aforesd Persons Applying to them, he or any concerned In the said Excise will Give License to them without any charge or Expence to sell at any time the Quantity of tenn Gallons or any Quantity Above the same of the said Liquors without any Excise or trouble or molestation, or without taking Advantage of any thing contained In the same.

John Reading Esqr: Reported from the Comitty to whom the Bill to Enforce the payment of 340: ounces 2 penny wt: 16 grains of plate Due from the Inhabitants of the Towneships of Chesterfield, Mansfield, Towne & Towneship of Burlington, Springfield, Northampton, Wellingborrow, Chester & Eversham All In the County of Burlington, being their part of the £5000 Tax for the year 1714, was Referred, that they had Agreed to severall Amendments, which he was directed to Report to this Board, when they were ready to receive the same Ordered that the sd Report be made Imediately-Then the said John Reading Esq' Reported the Amendments In his place, which he Afterwards laid on the Table.

And the said Amendments being severally Read were Agreed to by this Board. Ordered that the Said Bill As Amended be Read the third time which being Read was Agreed to & past by this Board.

Ordered that John Reading Esqr: Do carry the sd Bill with the Amendments to the House of Representatives for their Concurrence.

A Bill to Enable John Pittenger & Sycha Pittenger of Piscataqua In the County of Midlesex & Province of NewJersey to sell & Dispose of the Reall Estate of Richard Pittenger Late of Piscataqua Aforesd Deceased for the payment of Debts sent up by the House of Representatives for the Concurrence of this Board was Read the first time, and ordered A Second Reading

At A Councill held At Chesterfield Jan' ye 11th 1716.

Ordered that A Comittie or any three or more of the Gentlemen of this Board Do Joyne with A Comittie of the House of Representatives to Examine the Bills of Creditt that are In the hands of the Treasurer, and to Compare them with their Counter parts In order to have them Cancelled & destroyed.

At A Councill held at Chesterfield January y 12th 1716.

Elisha Parker Esq Reported from the Comittie of this Board that was to Joyne the Comittie of the House of Representatives upon the Examination of the Bills of Creditt & that they had Joyned the said Comittie of the House of Representatives and had Examined the Bills of Creditt delivered In by the Treasurer, which were 182: Bills of five pounds Each, 272 Bills of fourty shillings Each, 514 Bills of twenty shillings Each, 506: Bills of ten shillings Each 928: Bills of five shillings Each, and 1789: Bills of two shillings & six pence Each, and that they had compared them with the Counterparts so farr as Satisfied the Comitties And that they had Also Received Bills of Creditt from Doctor Roberts Treasurer of the western Devision to the value of £536,, 17,, 6, whereof Eight pounds five shillings were In Counterfitt Bills. After some time spent, It was Resolved that the said Bills should be burnt And the said Bills were burnt In presence of the Comittie of this Board, and of the House of Representatives. The said Elisha Parker did further Report that then the Comittie of this Board did Joyne A Comittie of the House of Representatives to Recieve & Examine the Remaining part of the Bills of Credit of the £8000,,-,, - Tax for the first Expedition Against Canada which were formerly cancelled by the Signers pursuant to An Act of Assembly and Left In the hands of Thomas Gordon Esqr: Treasurer, And Recieved thirtie Nine bundles of Bills of Creditt which were Issued for the first Expedition to Canada which being Examined there was 198 Bills of five pounds Each, 200 Bills of fourty shillings. Each, 500 Bills of twenty shillings Each, 1060 Bills of ten shillings Each, 1694 Bills of five shillings Each, And Also fourteen Bills Amounting to £5,, 15,, — which Bills were burnt In the presence of the Comittie of this Board and the House of Representatives, which proceedings of the Comittie were Approved of and Agreed to by this Board.

The Bill to Enable John Pittenger & Sycha Pittenger of Piscataqua In the County of Midlesex & Province of New

Jersey to sell & dispose of the Real Estate of Richard Pittenger Late of Piscataqua Deceased for the payment of Debts was Read the second time & Comitted to any three or more of the Gentlemen of this Board.

A Message from the Assembly by Jeremiah Bass Esq' and Mr Joseph Bonnell, that they had dissolved The former Comittie of the House, that was to Joyne the Comittie of this Board for the Inspection of the Warrants of the Government, And In Place thereof were to Resolve themselves In to a Comittie of the whole House to Joyne A Comittie of this Board for the Inspection of the said Accounts from day to day till the same shall be finished.

Ordered that any three or more of the Gentlemen of the Councill be A Comittie to Joyne A Comittie of the House of Representatives upon the said Accounts.
