View we with eye of faith Thy blood,
Shed on the accursed tree;

And, mindful that Thou diedst for us,
For ever live to Thee.

So wilt Thou not, O Lamb of God!
In vain Thyself have given ;
But we, Thy faithful flock on earth,
Shall share Thy bliss in heaven.

HYMN XXII.

If God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. 1 John iv. 11.

FATHER of mercies! send Thy grace

All powerful from above,
To form in our obedient souls,

The image of Thy love.

Oh! may our sympathizing breasts
The gen'rous pleasure know,
Freely to share in others' joy
And weep for others' woe.

Whene'er the helpless sons of grief
In low distress are laid,

Soft be our hearts their pains to feel,
And swift our hands to aid.

Since Christ to save our guilty souls
On wings of mercy flew,

We, whom the Saviour thus has lov'd,
Should love each other too.

HYMN XXIII.

How dear are Thy counsels unto me, O God! O how great is the sum of them.-Ps. cxxxix. 17.

IN glad amazement, Lord! we stand,
Amid the bounties of Thy hand :
How numberless those bounties are!
How rich, how various, and how fair!

But Oh! what poor returns we make!
What lifeless thanks we pay Thee back!
Lord! we confess, with humble shame,
Our offerings scarce deserve the name.

:

Fain would our labouring hearts devise
To bring some nobler sacrifice :-
They sink beneath the mighty load;
What shall we render to our God?

To Thee we consecrate our praise,
And vow the remnant of our days:
Enrich our souls with grace divine,
And make them worthier to be Thine.

HYMN XXIV.

FOR A DAY OF PUBLIC THANKSGIVING.

BEFORE Jehovah's awful throne,
Ye nations bow with sacred joy :
Know that the Lord is God alone;
He can create, and He destroy!

His sovereign power, without our aid,
Made us of clay, and form'd us men;
And when like wandering sheep we stray'd,
He brought us to His fold again.

We'll crowd Thy gates with thankful songs,
High as the heavens our voices raise ;
And earth, with her ten thousand tongues,
Shall fill Thy courts with sounding praise!

Wide as the world is Thy command,
Vast as eternity Thy love;

Firm as Thyself Thy truth shall stand
When rolling years have ceas'd to move!

HYMN XXV.

FOR A CONFIRMATION.

O HAPPY day, that stays our choice
On Thee, our Saviour and our God!
Well may these glowing hearts rejoice,
And tell their raptures all abroad.

O happy bond, that seals our vows
To Him who merits all our love!
Let cheerful anthems fill His house,
While to His sacred throne we move.

'Tis done the great transaction's done;
Deign, gracious Lord! to make us Thine;
Help us, through grace, to follow on,
Glad to confess Thy voice divine.

High Heaven that heard our solemn vow,
That vow renew'd shall daily hear,
Till in life's latest hour we bow,

And bless in death a bond so dear.

APPENDIX.

PSALM XV.

WHO, O Lord, with favour blest,
On Thy holy hill shall rest?
He, who with a heart sincere
Walks directed by Thy fear.

Rules of righteousness divine
Daily in his practice shine;
Ne'er from truth his lips depart,
Sacred held within his heart.

He will not his neighbour wrong,
By his actions nor his tongue;
He, whose ways are truth and love,
From Thy favour shall not move.

He Thy grace shall largely share,
All his wants shall be Thy care;
He, O Lord, a welcome guest,
On Thy holy hill shall rest.

PSALM XIX.

LORD, the heavens declare Thy glory, Seen throughout their wondrous frame; And the firmament the story

Of Thy doings doth proclaim:
