Day to day the wonder telleth,
Night to night doth utter speech:
Through all lands the anthem swelleth,
Earth's last bound the voices reach.

Lord, Thy law, the soul converting,
Is a doctrine undefil'd;
Constant is Thy truth, imparting
Wisdom to a simple child.
Joy is on the heart, obeying
Paths of peace, and pure
Light unto the eyes conveying,
Lord, Thy fear for ever stands.

commands;

Me to good Thy warning stirreth,
Fearing Thee, reward I win :
Who can tell how oft he erreth?
Cleanse Thou me from secret sin.
my bosom's meditation,

Let

Let my words inspir'd by Thee, Lord, my strength, and my salvation, In Thy sight accepted be.

PSALM XXXI.

O LORD, I put my trust in Thee,
Let nothing work me shame;
As Thou art just, deliver me,
And set me free from blame.

Hear me, O Lord, and that right soon,
To help me make good speed;
Be Thou my rock and house of stone,
My fence in time of need.

Pluck Thou my feet out of the snare
Which they have for me laid;
Thou art my strength, and all my care
Is for Thy mighty aid.

Into Thy hands, Lord, I commit
My soul, which is Thy due,
Because Thou hast redeemed it,
O Lord my God most true.

PSALM XXXVIII.

THY chast'ning wrath, O Lord, restrain,
Though I deserve it all;

Let not on me the dreadful weight
Of Thy displeasure fall.

My sins, which to a deluge swell,
My sinking head o'erflow,

And for my feeble strength to bear
Too vast a burden grow.

But, O

my Advocate, to Thee,

To Thee do I appeal;

Oh hear the voice of my complaint,

And all my sickness heal.

Forsake me not, O Lord my God,
Nor far from me depart;
Make haste to my relief, O Thou,
Who my salvation art.

PSALM XL.

I MEEKLY waited for the Lord,
He bow'd to hear my cry;
He saw me resting on His word,
And brought salvation nigh.

Firm on a rock He made me stand,

cheerful tongue

And taught my
To praise the wonders of His hand,
In a new grateful song.

abroad;

I'll spread His works of grace
All saints with joy shall hear,
And sinners learn to make my God
Their only hope and fear.

How many are Thy thoughts of love,
Thy mercies, Lord, how great!
Nor words, nor hours, sufficient prove
Their numbers to repeat.

PSALM XLV.

O FAIREST of all men,

Thy lips with grace are pure;

For God hath blessed Thee with gifts

For ever to endure.

About Thee gird Thy sword,
O prince of might elect;
With honour, glory, and renown,
Thou art most richly deck'd.

Go forth with godly speed,

With meekness, truth, and right; And Thy right hand shall Thee instruct In works of dreadful might.

Thy royal seat, O Lord,

For ever shall remain ;

Because the sceptre of Thy realm,
Doth righteousness maintain.

PSALM XLVI.

GOD is our refuge and our stay,
A present help in trouble's day;
Therefore we will not fear,

Though the earth move, the rocks be rent,
And headlong to the sea be sent,

And wild its waves appear.

Come see His works on earth display'd;
What desolation He hath made:

He maketh wars to cease;

The shiver'd spear, the broken bow,
The chariot burnt, His presence shew,
Signs of His reign of peace.

Be still, and know that He is God;
The farthest isles shall feel His rod,
And Him the earth obey :

We will not fear; we need not hide;
The Lord of Hosts is on our side,
And Jacob's God our stay.

PSALM LI.-PART I.

SHEW pity, Lord; O Lord forgive;
Let a repenting sinner live;

Are not Thy mercies large and free?
May not the guilty hope in Thee?

My crimes are great, yet not surpass
The pow'r and glory of Thy grace;
Oh! wash my soul from every sin,
And make my guilty conscience clean.
My lips with shame my sins confess
Against Thy law, against Thy grace;
Lord, should Thy judgment be severe,
I am condemn'd, but Thou art clear.

Yet save a trembling sinner, Lord!
Whose hope still hov'ring round Thy word,
Would light on some sweet promise there,
Some sure support against despair.
