Psalm C.

All Mankind invited to Praise and Worship God,

1 WITH one consent let all the earth
To GOD their cheerful voices raise,
Glad homage pay with awful mirth,
And sing before Him songs of praise.
2 Convinc'd that He is God alone,

From whom both we and all proceed;
We, whom He chooses for His own,
The flock which He vouchsafes to feed.

30 enter then His temple-gate,

Thence to His courts devoutly press,
And still your grateful hymns repeat,
And still His Name with praises bless.
4 For He's the LORD supremely good,
His mercy is for ever sure;

His truth, which always firmly stood,
To endless ages shall endure.

Psalm C.

All Mankind invited to Praise and Worship God.

1 BEFORE JEHOVAH's awful throne,
Ye nations, bow with sacred joy;
Know that the LORD is Gon alone;
He can create, and He destroy.

2 His sov'reign pow'r, without our aid,
Made us of clay, and form'd us men;
And when like wand'ring sheep we stray'd,
He brought us to His fold again.

3 We'll crowd Thy gates with thankful songs,
High as the Heav'ns our voices raise;
And earth, with her ten thousand tongues,
Shall fill Thy courts with sounding praise.

4 Wide as the world is Thy command;
Vast as eternity Thy love;

[ocr errors]

Firm as a rock Thy truth must stand,
When rolling years shall cease to move.

Psalm C.

All Mankind invited to Praise and Worship God.

O ALL ye lands! with tuneful noise
Aloud proclaim your hallow'd joys;

The LORD your GOD with gladness serve,
With melody His praise preserve:
Bow at the LORD JEHOVAH's throne;
Be sure that He is GOD alone.

2 'Tis He who form'd our earthly frames,
And ev'ry right of Maker claims;
His people, we from Him proceed;
His sheep, in all His pastures feed:
O enter then His gates with praise,
And fill his courts with joyful lays.

3 Thanks to our GOD let all proclaim;
May blessings e'er attend His Name!
His grace in thousand channels flows;
His
mercy
no restriction knows;
His truth's unchangeably secure,
To endless generations sure.

4 LORD! from Thy throne regard us now,
While at Thy feet we prostrate bow;
Feed now Thy flock, O heav'nly King,
While with Thy praise these mansions ring:
May all Thine attributes combine
To seal us, LORD! for ever Thine!

Psalm CII.

The Unchangeableness of God.

1 OF old, Thy hand, eternal GOD!
The World's foundation laid,
Stretch'd the wide Heav'ns o'er earth abroad,
And all their pomp display'd.

2 The Heav'ns shall perish; mighty LORD!
Thy glory still secure:
Thy Name, eternally ador'd,
Eternal shall endure.

3 Like a rich vesture, chang'd and old,
Their beauties shall decay;
Thy hands th' expanded Heav'ns shall fold,
While earth dissolves away.

4 But Thon, JEHOVAH! art the same,
Immortal are Thy years;
JESUS th' eternal throne shall claim,
When Nature disappears!

5 Then shall His church in realms of light
His pow'r and glory view:

And saints, establish'd in His sight,
Eternal songs renew.

Psalm CIII.

Praising God for all His Mercies.

1 BLESS, O my soul, the living God; Call home thy thoughts that rove abroad; Let all the pow'rs within me join

In work and worship so divine.

2 Bless, O my soul, the GOD of grace;
His favours claim Thy highest praise:
Why should the wonders He hath wrought
Be lost in silence, and forgot?

3 'Tis He, my soul, that sent His Son
To die for crimes which thou hast done :
He owns the ransom; and forgives
The hourly follies of our lives.

4 The vices of the mind He heals,

And cures the pains that Nature feels;
Redeems the soul from Hell, and saves
Our wasting life from threat'ning graves.

6 Our youth decay'd His pow'r repairs;
His mercy crowns our growing years;
He satisfies our mouth with good,
And fills our hopes with heav'nly food.

6 Let the whole earth His pow'r confess;
Let the whole earth adore His grace:
The Gentile with the Jew shall join
In work and worship so divine.

Psalm CIII.

Mercy in the midst of Judgment.

My soul, repeat His praise
Whose mercies are so great;
Whose anger is so slow to rise,
So ready to abate.

GOD will not always chide;

And when His strokes are felt,

His strokes are fewer than our crimes,

[ocr errors]

And lighter than our guilt.

3 High as the Heav'ns are rais'd Above the ground we tread, So far the riches of His grace

Our highest thoughts exceed.

His pow'r subdues our sins;
And His forgiving love,

Far as the east is from the west,
Doth all our guilt remove.

The pity of the LORD

To those that fear His Name,
Is such as tender parents feel;
He knows our feeble frame.

Our days are as the grass,

Or like the morning flow'r;

If one sharp blast sweep o'er the field,
It withers in an hour.

But Thy compassions, LORD!
To endless years endure;

And children's children ever find
Thy words of promise sure.
