WHAT must it be to dwell above, At God's right hand, where Jesus reigns, Since the sweet earnest of His love O'erwhelms us on these dreary plains! No heart can think, no tongue explain, What bliss it is with Christ to reign. 2 When sin no more obstructs our sight, When sorrow pains our heart no more, How shall we view the Prince of light, And all His works of grace explore! What heights and depths of love divine, Will there through endless ages shine! 3 Well, He has fixed the happy day When the last tear shall fill our eyes, And God shall wipe that tear away, And fill us with divine surprise To hear His voice, and see His face, And feel His infinite embrace! 4 This is the heaven I long to know; For this, with patience, I would wait, Till, weaned from earth, and all below, I mount to my celestial seat, And wave my palm, and wear my crown, And, with the elders, cast them down. 88. 622 In whom believing ye rejoice with joy unspeakable.-1 Pet. 1, 8. 10 Jesus, the crown of my hope, My soul is in haste to be gone; O bear me, ye cherubim, up, And waft me away to His throne! 2 My Saviour! whom absent I love; Whom, not having seen, I adore; Whose name is exalted above All glory, dominion, and power; 3 Dissolve Thou these bonds that detain My soul from her portion with Thee; O strike off this adamant chain, And make me eternally free. 4 O then shall the veil be removed, And round me Thy brightness be poured; I shall meet Him whom absent I loved, I shall see whom unseen I adored. 5 And then never more shall the fears, And trials, temptations, and woes, Which darken this valley of tears, Intrude on my blissful repose! 6 Or, if yet remembered above, Remembrance no sadness shall raise: They'll be but new signs of Thy love, New themes for my wonder and praise! L.M. 623 There shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth.-Rev.21,27. 1 HEAVEN who hope to enter there, EAVEN is a place of rest from sin; Must here that holy course begin, Which shall their souls for rest prepare. 2 Clean hearts, O God! in us create; Right spirits, Lord, in us renew; Commence we now that higher state, Now do Thy will as angels do. 3 A life in heaven! O what is this? 4 While thrones, dominions, princedoms, powers, And saints made perfect triumph thus: A goodly heritage is ours, There is a heaven on earth for us. 5 The church of Christ, the school of grace, The Spirit teaching by the word! In those our Saviour's steps we trace; Firm in His footsteps may we tread, From heaven below to heaven above. C.M. 624 The holy city, new Jerusalem. 1 Rev. 21, 2. JERUSALEM, ERUSALEM, my happy home! The conflict is not long: We hope in heaven to praise our King, In one eternal song. S.M. 626 So shall we ever be with the Lord. 1 FOR 1 Thess. 4, 17. ever with the Lord! Life from the dead is in that word; 2 Here in the body pent, 3 4 5 Absent from Him I roam; Yet nightly pitch my moving tent, My Father's house on high, At times to faith's foreseeing eye, My thirsty spirit faints To reach the land I love, The bright inheritance of saints, For ever with the Lord!
