4 The veil of unbelief remove,
And by Thy manifested love,
And by Thy sprinkled blood,
Destroy the love of sin in me,
And get Thyself the victory,
And bring me back to God.

391 Joy shall be in heaven over one

sinner that repenteth-Luke 15, 7.

the courts of Para

To see a prodigal return,

To see an heir of glory born?

2 With joy the Father doth approve The fruit of His eternal love;

The Son with joy looks down and sees
The purchase of His agonies.

8 The Spirit takes delight to view
The holy soul He formed anew:
And saints and angels join to sing
The growing empire of their King.

392 Come unto Me... and I will give

you rest.-Matt. 11, 28.

1 "COME unto Me, ye weary come!

Ye heavy-laden, cease to roam!

I will refresh the weary breast, And give the labouring spirit rest." 2 Sweet word! it calms my troubled soul

It bids my sorrows cease to roll;
Smiles like the rainbow on the deep,
And hushes all my woes to sleep.
3 Here at Thy feet, tis good to be,
Thy word to hear, Thy face to see;
Thy freedom's easy yoke to wear;
The burden of Thy love to bear.
4 Saviour, Thy promise I believe,
Nor ever would Thy presence leave,
But seek, upon Thy gentle breast,
The foretaste of eternal rest.

393 God was in Christ, reconciling the

1

world unto Himself.-2 Cor. 5, 19. EAREST of all the names above, My Jesus and my God,

DEA

Who can resist Thy heavenly love,
Or trifle with Thy blood?

2 Tis by the merits of Thy death
The Father smiles again,

Tis by Thine interceding breath
The Spirit dwells with men.
3 Till God in human flesh I see,

My thoughts no comfort find;
The holy, just, and sacred Three
Are terrors to my mind.

4 But if Immanuel's face appear,
My hope, my joy begin;
His name forbids my slavish fear,
His grace removes my sin.

394 We love Him, because He first

1

loved us.-1 John 4, 19.

LORD, when my thoughts delighted
Amid the wonders of Thy love, [rove,
The sight revives my drooping heart,
And bids invading fears depart.

2 Guilty and weak, to Thee I fly,
On Thine atoning blood rely,
And on Thy righteousness depend,
My Lord, my Saviour, and my Friend.
3 Be all my heart, be all my days,
Devoted to Thy single praise!
And let my glad obedience prove
How much I owe, how much I love.

395 What things were gain to me, I

counted loss for Christ.-Phil. 3,7.

TO more, my God, I boast no more
Of all the duties I have done;

I quit the hopes I held before,
To trust the merits of Thy Son.

2 Now, for the love I bear His name,
What was my gain I count my loss:
My former pride I call my shame,
And nail my glory to His cross.

3 Yes, and I must and will esteem
All things but loss for Jesus' sake:
O may my soul be found in Him,
And of His righteousness partake!
4 The best obedience of my hands
Dares not appear before Thy throne!
But faith can answer Thy demands
By pleading what my Lord has done.

396 Present your bodies a living sacri

fice.-Rom. 12, 1.

mean a gift reward?

That offering, Lord, with joy we bring Which Thine own hand prepared.

2 We own Thy various claims, And to Thine altar move,

3

The willing victims of Thy grace,
And bound with cords of love.
Descend, celestial fire,

The sacrifice inflame;

So shall a grateful odour rise

Through our Redeemer's name.

397 I have said that I would keep Thy

1

words.-Ps 119, 57.

THOU art my portion, O my God:
Soon as I know Thy way,

My heart makes haste to obey Thy word,
And suffers no delay.

2 I choose the path of heavenly truth,
And glory in my choice;
Not all the riches of the earth
Could make me so rejoice.

3 The testimonies of Thy grace
I set before mine eyes;
Thence I derive my daily strength,
And there my comfort lies.

4 If once I wander from Thy path,
I think upon my ways,

Then turn my feet to Thy commands, And trust Thy pardoning grace.

5 Now I am Thine, for ever Thine,
O save Thy servant, Lord!

Thou art my shield, my hiding place;
My hope is in Thy word.

6 Thou hast inclined this heart of mine
Thy statutes to fulfil;

And thus, till mortal life shall end,
Would I perform Thy will.

398 He will speak peace unto His

1

people.-Ps. 85, 8.

UNITE, my roving thoughts, unite

In silence soft and sweet:
And thou, my soul, sit gently down
At thy great Sovereign's feet.
2 Jehovah's awful voice is heard,
Yet gladly I attend;
For lo! the everlasting God
Proclaims Himself my Friend.

3 Harmonious accents to my soul
The sounds of peace convey;
The tempest at His word subsides,
And winds and seas obey.

4 By all its joys I charge my heart
To grieve His love no more;
But charmed by melody divine,
To give its follies o'er.

399 o God, Thou art my God.-Ps.

M

63, 1.

God, permit my tongue
This joy, to call Thee mine;
And let my earnest cry prevail
To taste Thy love divine.
My thirsty, fainting soul
Thy mercy doth implore;
Not travellers in desert lands,
Can pant for water more.
Within Thy churches, Lord,
I long to find my place,

Thy power and glory to behold,
And feel Thy quickening grace.

4 For life without Thy love No relish can afford;

5

6

No joy can be compared to this-
To serve and please the Lord.

Since Thou hast been my help,
To Thee my spirit flies;

And on Thy watchful providence
My cheerful hope relies.

The shadow of Thy wings
My soul in safety keeps;

I follow where my Father leads,
And He supports my steps.

400 Being made free from sin and be

come servants to God.-Rom, 9, 22. SEND the joys of earth away: Away, ye tempters of the mind! False as the smooth deceitful sea, And empty as the whistling wind, 2 Your streams were floating me along Down to the gulf of black despair; And whilst I listened to your song, Your streams had e'en conveyed me there..

3 Lord, I adore Thy matchless grace, That warned me of that dark abyss, That drew me from those treacherous seas.

And bade me seek superior bliss.

4 Now to the shining realms above I stretch my hands, and raise mine eyes; O for the pinions of a dove,

To bear me to the upper skies!

5 There, from the bosom of my God,
Rivers of endless pleasure roll;
There would I fix my last abode,
And lose the sorrows of my soul.

401 Hold up my goings in Thy paths,

that my footsteps slip not.-Ps. 17,5 ESET with snares on every hand,
