I need not fear my foes,

I need not yield to care,

I need not sink beneath my woes,
For Thou wilt answer prayer.

In my Redeemer's name,
I give myself to Thee;

Through Him, unworthy as I am,
My God will cherish me.

388 Lead me to the rock that is higher

1

than I.-Ps. 61, 2.

OCK of ages,cleft for me,
Let me hide myself in Thee!
Let the water and the blood,

From Thy wounded side which flowed,
Be of sin the double cure,

Cleanse me from its guilt and power.
2 Not the labour of my hands
Can fulfil Thy law's demands;
Could my zeal no respite know,
Could my tears for ever flow,
All for sín could not atone:
Thou must save, and Thou alone.
3 Nothing in my hand I bring,
Simply to Thy cross I cling;
Naked, come to Thee for dress,
Helpless, look to Thee for grace:
Black, I to the fountain fly,
Wash me, Saviour, or I die!

4 While I draw this fleeting breath,
When my eye-lids close in death,
When I soar to worlds unknown,
See Thee on Thy judgment-throne,
Rock of ages, shelter me!

Let me hide myself in Thee!

389 To lay hold upon the hope set

before us.-Heb. 6, 18.

1 JESUS lover of my soul,

Let me to Thy bosom fly,
While the nearer waters roll,
While the tempest still is high;
Hide me, O my Saviour, hide,
Till the storm of life is past:
Safe into the haven guide:
O receive my soul at last!

2 Other refuge have I none;
Hangs my helpless soul on Thee;
Leave, ah! leave me not alone,
Still support and comfort me.
All my trust on Thee is staid;
All my help from Thee I bring;
Cover my defenceless head
With the shadow of Thy wing.
3 Thou, O Christ, art all I want;
More than all in Thee I find:
Raise the fallen, cheer the faint,
Heal the sick and lead the blind:
Just and holy is Thy name,

I am all

unrighteousness;

Vile, and full of sin, I am,

Thou art full of truth and grace.

4 Plenteous grace with Thee is found,
Grace to pardon all my sin;

Let the healing streams abound,
Make and keep me pure within:
Thou of life the fountain art,
Freely let me take of Thee:

Spring Thou up within my heart,
Rise, to all eternity!

390 They shall look on Him whom they

pierced.-John 19, 37.

THOU who hast redeemed of old, And bidst me of Thy strength lay hold,

And be at peace with Thee;

Help me Thy benefits to own,

And make me know what Thou hast O dying Lamb, for me!

2 Vouchsafe the eye of faith to see The Man transfixed on Calvary,

To know Thee, who Thou art,The one eternal God and true! And let the sight affect, subdue,

And break my stubborn heart. 3 Lover of souls, to rescue mine, Reveal the charity divine,

That suffered in my stead; That made Thy soul a sacrifice

[done,

[eyes,

And closed in death those gracious

And bowed that sacred head.

4 The veil of unbelief remove,
And by Thy manifested love,
And by Thy sprinkled blood,
Destroy the love of sin in me,
And get Thyself the victory,
And bring me back to God.

391 Joy shall be in heaven over one

sinner that repenteth-Luke 15, 7. HO can describe the joys that rise Through all the courts of Paradise.

1 WH

To see a prodigal return,

To see an heir of glory born?

2 With joy the Father doth approve The fruit of His eternal love;

The Son with joy looks down and sees
The purchase of His agonies.

3 The Spirit takes delight to view
The holy soul He formed anew:
And saints and angels join to sing
The growing empire of their King.

392 Come unto Me..

and I will give

you rest.-Matt. 11, 28.

1 "COME unto Me, ye weary come!

Ye heavy-laden, cease to roam!

I will refresh the weary breast, And give the labouring spirit rest." 2 Sweet word! it calms my troubled soul

It bids my sorrows cease to roll;
Smiles like the rainbow on the deep,
And hushes all my woes to sleep.

3 Here at Thy feet, tis good to be,
Thy word to hear, Thy face to see;
Thy freedom's easy yoke to wear;
The burden of Thy love to bear.
4 Saviour, Thy promise I believe,
Nor ever would Thy presence leave,
But seek, upon Thy gentle breast,
The foretaste of eternal rest.

393 God was in Christ, reconciling the

world unto Himself.-2 Cor. 5, 19. EAREST of all the names above, My Jesus and my God,

1DE

Who can resist Thy heavenly love,
Or trifle with Thy blood?

2 Tis by the merits of Thy death
The Father smiles again,

Tis by Thine interceding breath The Spirit dwells with men. 3 Till God in human flesh I see,

My thoughts no comfort find;
The holy, just, and sacred Three
Are terrors to my mind.

4 But if Immanuel's face appear,
My hope, my joy begin;
His name forbids my slavish fear,
His grace removes my sin.

394 We love Him, because He first

loved us.-1 John 4, 19.

1 LORD, when my thoughts delighted
Amid the wonders of Thy love, [rove,
The sight revives my drooping heart,
And bids invading fears depart.

2 Guilty and weak, to Thee I fly,
On Thine atoning blood rely,
And on Thy righteousness depend,
My Lord, my Saviour, and my Friend.
3 Be all my heart, be all my days,
Devoted to Thy single praise!

And let my glad obedience prove
How much I owe, how much I love.

395 What things were gain to me, I

1

No

counted loss for Christ.-Phil. 3,7.

O more, my God, I boast no more
Of all the duties I have done;
I quit the hopes I held before,
To trust the merits of Thy Son.

2 Now, for the love I bear His name,
What was my gain I count my loss:
My former pride I call my shame,
And nail my glory to His cross.

3 Yes, and I must and will esteem
All things but loss for Jesus' sake:
O may my soul be found in Him,
And of His righteousness partake!
4 The best obedience of my hands
Dares not appear before Thy throne!
But faith can answer Thy demands
By pleading what my Lord has done.

396 Present your bodies a living sacri

1

fice.-Rom. 12, 1.

Aso mean a gift reward?

ND will the eternal King

That offering, Lord, with joy we bring Which Thine own hand prepared.

2 We own Thy various claims, And to Thine altar move,

3

The willing victims of Thy grace,
And bound with cords of love.
Descend, celestial fire,

The sacrifice inflame;"

So shall a grateful odour rise

Through our Redeemer's name.

397 I have said that I would keep Thy

words.-Ps 119, 57.

1 THOU art my portion, O my God: Soon as I know Thy way,

My heart makes haste to obey Thy word,
And suffers no delay.

2 I choose the path of heavenly truth,
And glory in my choice;
Not all the riches of the earth
Could make me so rejoice.

3 The testimonies of Thy grace
I set before mine eyes;
Thence I derive my daily strength,
And there my comfort lies.

4 If once I wander from Thy path,
I think upon my ways,

Then turn my feet to Thy commands, And trust Thy pardoning grace.
