5 Come in, come in, Thou Prince of Peace,
425 Lord, if Thou hadst been here.
John 11, 21, 32.
LORD, hadst Thou been here!" but when
Is not the Saviour nigh?
His power and love were present then, Though Lazarus needs must die.
2 And when the Master seems to stay,
His tarrying never is delay.
8 He loves to come when others flee,
To save in faith's extremity,
When hope's last glimmerings fade.
4 The house of mourning He prefers
5 Lord, not in sorrow's hour alone,
(known The hearts that once Thy love have Would be Thy dwelling-place.
426 Casting all your care upon Him.
-1 Pet. 5, 7.
LORD, how happy should we be,
And feel at heart that One above,
2 How far from this our daily life!
Oh! could we but relinquish all
$0 for the faith to cast our load
4 Lord, make these faithless hearts of ours
Thy lessons learn from birds and flowers,
427 He is able to succour them that are
tempted.-Heb. 2, 18.
1 STILL nigh me, O my Saviour, stand, And guard in fierce temptation's hour;
Hide in the hollow of Thy hand,
2 In suffering, be Thy love my peace!
In death, as life, be Thou my guide,
428 Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently
for Him.-Ps. 37, 7.
1 Jesus, be Thou my power, My help and refuge in distress, My fortress, and my tower.
HOU seest my feebleness;
Give me to trust in Thee;
Be Thou my sure abode;
My horn, and rock, and buckler be,
Myself I cannot save,
Myself I cannot keep,
But strength in Thee I surely have,
My soul to Thee alone
Now, therefore, I commend ; Thou, Jesus, love me as Thine own, And love me to the end.
429 Without me ye can do nothing.→
John 15, 5.
1 SON of God, Thy blessing grant,
2 Unsustained by Thee I fall,
3 All my hopes on Thee depend,
430 They that sow in tears shall reap
in joy.-Ps. 128, 5.
1 THE Lord can clear the darkest skies,
Can give us day for night;
Make drops of sacred sorrow rise
2 Let those that sow in sadness wait
Till the fair harvest come! [great, They shall confess their sheaves are And shout the blessings home.
3 The seed, though buried long in dust,
431 They shall never perish.-John 10,
1 Ford, my hope, my trust:
IRM as the earth Thy gospel stands
If I am found in Jesus' hands
My soul can ne'er be lost.
2 His honour is engaged to save
3 Nor death, nor hell, shall e'er remove
432 Blessed are they that have not seen,
and yet have believed.-John 20. 2. LESSED are they who have NOT seen,
Band yet the Christ receive;
In spirit cry, "My Lord, my God,"
2 Blessed! who feel their quiet way
433 Speak unto the children of Israel.
that they go forward.-Exod. 14, 15.
1 T THEN we cannot see our way,
He who bids us forward go
2 Though the sea be deep and wide,
Since the Lord vouchsafes to lead.
5 Be it ours then, while we're here,
434 I change not.—Mal. 3, 6.
WHEN darkness long has veiled my
And smiling day once more appears,
2 I chide my unbelieving heart, And blush that I should ever be Thus prone to act so base a part, Or harbour one hard thought of Thee! 30 let me then, at length, be taught What I am still so slow to learn, That God is love, and changes not, Nor knows the shadow of a turn. 4 Sweet truth, and easy to repeat! But when my faith is sharply tried, I find myself a learner yet,
Unskilful, weak, and apt to slide.
Thou therefore all the praise receive;
435 of His fulness have all we received.
-John 1, 16.
And ever abides
