ITS ORDINANCES-THE LORD'S

SUPPER.
(See also THE DEATH OF CHRIST.)

L.M. 720 The cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 W , CHEN

I survey the wondrous cross
My richest gain I count but loss,
And pour contempt on all my pride.
2 Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast

Save in the death of Christ my God!
All the

vain things that charm me most, I sacrifice them to His blood. 3 See from His head, His hands, His feet,

Sorrow and love flow mingling down! Did e'er such love and sorrow meet.

Or thorns compose so rich a crown? 4 His dying crimson, like a robe,

Spreads o'er His body on the tree;
Then am I dead to all the globe,

And all the globe is dead to me. 5 Were the whole realm of nature mine,

That were a present far too small;
Love so amazing, so divine,
Demands my soul, my life, my all.

sakes He became poor.- 2 Cor 8, 9. 1 (ESUS, whom. angel-hosts adore,

; In love, though rich, becoming poor, That I through Him enriched might be, 2 Though Lord of all above, below,

He went to Olivet for me;
There drank my cup of wrath and woe,

When bleeding in Gethsemane. 3. The ever-blessed Son of God

Went up to Calvary for me; [load,
There paid my debt, there bore my
In His own body on the tree.

4 Jesus, whose dwelling is the skies,

Went down into the grave for me ;
There overeame my enemies,

There won the glorious victory. 5 Tis finished! all the veil is rent,

The welcome sure, the access free;
Now then we leave our banishment,
O Father, to return to Thee.

iniquity of us all.-Isa. 53, 0. 1 IKE sheep we went astray

And broke the fold of God, Each wandering in a different way,

But all the downward road. 2 How dreadful was the hour

When God our wanderings laid,
And

did at once His vengeance pour,

Upon the Shepherd's head! 3 How glorious was the grace

When Christ sustained the stroke! His life and blood the Shepherd pays

A ransom for the flock. 4 But God shall raise His head

O'er all the sons of men, And make Him see a numerous seed,

To recompense His pain. 5 I'll give Him, saith the Lord,

A portion with the strong; He shall possess a large reward,

And hold His honours long.

LM. I will sing of mercy.-Ps.101, 1. 1 HEAR á sound that comes from far: II

It fills my soul with joy and love, Not seraphs' voices sweeter are,

That echo through the courts above. 2 Tis mercy's voice that strikes my ear,

From Calvary it sounds abroad;
It soothes my soul and calms my fear:
It speaks of pardon bought with

blood.

S And is it true that many fiy

The sound that bids my soul rejoice,
And rather choose with fools to die,

Than turn an ear to mercy's voice? 4 With such I own, I once appeared, But now I know how great their

loss; For sweeter sounds were never heard Than mercy utters from the cross.

aloud in Jesus'
Ye who is salvation prove,
Triumph in redeeming love.
2 Ye who see the Father's grace
Beaming in the Saviour's face,
As to Canaan on ye move,

Praise and bless redeeming love.
3 Mourning souls! dry up your tears;
Banish all your guilty fears ;
See your guilt and curse remove,

Cancelled by redeeming love. 4 Ye alas! who long have been

Willing slaves to death and sin,
Now from bliss no longer rove,

Stop, and taste redeeming love. 5 Welcome all, by sin opprest,

Welcome to the Saviour's breast;
Nothing brought Him from above,

Nothing but redeeming love.
6 Hither, then, your music bring,

Strike aloud each tuneful string;
Mortals, join the host above,
Join to praise redeeming love.

I am the living bread which came

down from heaven. -John 6, 51. 1 BRE

READ of heaven! on Thee I feed,

For Thy flesh is meat indeed :
Ever may my soul be fed
With this true and living bread;
Day by day with strength supplied,
Through the life of Hiin who died.

725

2 Vine of heaven! Thy blood supplies
This blest cup of sacrifice.
Tis Thy wounds my healing give:
To Thy cross I look and live.
Thou my life! O let me be
Rooted, grafted, built on Thee.

726 Greater love hath no man than 1 IF

15
human kindness meets return,

If tender thoughts within us burn,

To feel a friend is nigh;
2 O shall not warmer accents tell

The gratitude we owe
To Him who died our fears to quell,

Our more than orphan's woe? 3 While yet His anguished soul surveyed

Those pangs He would not flee, What love His latest words displayed,

Meet, and remember Me!” 4 Remember Thee! Thy death, Thyshame,

Our worthless hearts to share! O memory, leave no other name

But His, recorded there!

C.M. 727 This do in remembrance of Me.-

Luke 22, 19. 1 1 ACCORDER I tumThy gracious word,

In meek ,
This will I do, my dying Lord,

I will remember Thee.
2 Thy body, broken for my sake,

My bread from heaven shall be; The testamental cup I take,

And thus remember Thee. 3 Gethsemane can I forget?

Or there Thy conflict see, Thine agony and bloody sweat,

And not remember Thee?
4 When to the cross I turn mine eyes,

And rest on Calvary,
O Lamb of God, my sacrifice!

I must remember Thee:

5 Remember Thee, and all Thy pains

And all Thy love to me;
Yes, while a breath, a pulse remains,

Will I remember Thee. 6 And when these failing lips grow dumb,

And mind and memory flee, When Thou shalt in Thy kingdom come, Jesus, remember me.

WE

blood.1 E bless the Saviour's name,

Our sins are all forgiven; To suffer once to earth He came,

And now He's crowned in heaven. 2 His precious blood was shed,

H body bruised for sin; Remembering this, we break the bread,

And, joyful, drink the wine. 3 While we remember Thee,

Lord, in our midst appear; Let each by faith Thy body see,

While we assemble here. 4 We never would forget

Thy rich, Thy precious love,
Our theme of joy and wonder here,

Our endless song above. 5 O let Thy love constrain

Our souls to cleave to Thee, And ever in our hearts remain, That word“Remember Me.
