3 When I have erred and gone astray, Afar from Thine and wisdom's way, And see no glimmering, guiding ray, Still, Saviour, plead for me.
4 When Satan, by my sins made bold, Strives from Thy cross to loose my hold, Then with Thy pitying arms enfold, And plead, O plead for me!
5 And when my dying hour draws near, Dispel my anguish, guilt, and fear, And to my fainting sight appear, Pleading in heaven for me.
OCK of Ages, cleft for me,
R Let me hide myself in Thee.
Let the water and the blood, From Thy side a healing flood, Be of sin the double cure,
Save from wrath, and make me pure.
2 Not the labours of my hands
Can fulfil Thy law's demands. Could my zeal no respite know, Could my tears for ever flow,—— This for sin could not atone; Thou must save, and Thou alone.
3 In my hand no price I bring, Simply to Thy cross I cling; Naked, come to Thee for dress; Helpless, look to Thee for grace; Leprous, to the Fountain fly: Wash me, Saviour, or I die !
4 While I draw this fleeting breath, When my eyes shall close in death, When I soar to worlds unknown, See Thee on Thy judgment throne,- Rock of Ages, cleft for me, Let me hide myself in Thee!
Gal. iii. 13. D. 7. 6. 7. 6. BONAR.
1 Lamb of God!
LAY my sins on Jesus,
He bears them all, and frees us From the accursed load.
I bring my guilt to Jesus,
To wash my crimson stains White in His blood most precious, Till not a spot remains.
2 I lay my wants on Jesus ;- All fulness dwells in Him:
He heals all my diseases, He doth my soul redeem.
I lay my griefs on Jesus,- My burdens and my cares; He from them all releases, He all my sorrow shares.
3 I rest my soul on Jesus, This weary soul of mine; His right hand me embraces, I on His breast recline. I love the name of Jesus,- Immanuel, Christ, the Lord! Like fragrance on the breezes, His name abroad is poured.
4 I long to be like Jesus,- Meek, loving, lowly, mild; I long to be like Jesus,- The Father's holy child; I long to be with Jesus, Amid the heavenly throng, To sing with saints His praises, To learn the angels' song.
N every object here, I see
Something, my heart, that points at thee; Hard as the rocks that bound the strand, Unfruitful as the barren sand,
Deep and deceitful as the ocean,
And, like the tides, in constant motion.
2 In every object here I see
Something, O Lord, that leads to Thee; Firm as the rocks, Thy promise stands, Thy mercies, countless as the sands, Thy love, a sea immensely wide, Thy grace, an overflowing tide.
NOTHER six days' work is done, Another Sabbath is begun;
Return, my soul,-enjoy thy rest, Improve the day thy God hath blest.
2 Come, bless the Lord, whose mercy finds So sweet a rest for wearied minds; Provides a foretaste, here, of heaven, And gives this day the food of seven! 3 0 that our thanks, this morn, may rise As grateful incense to the skies!
And draw from heaven that sweet repose, Which none but he that feels it knows. 4 This heavenly calm within the breast Is the dear pledge of glorious rest, Which for the church of God remains, The end of cares-the end of pains.
5 In holy duties, let the day, In holy pleasures, pass away: How sweet a Sabbath thus to spend, In hope of one that ne'er shall end!
WELCOME, sacred day of rest!
Sweet repose from earthly care;
Day above all days the best,
When our souls for heaven prepare: Day when our Redeemer rose
Victor o'er the hosts of hell; Thus He vanquished all our foes : Let our lips His glory tell.
2 Gracious Lord, we love this day : When we hear Thy holy word, When we sing Thy praise and pray, Earth can no such joys afford. But a better rest remains,-
Heavenly Sabbaths, happier days; Rest from sin, and rest from pains; Endless joys, and endless praise.
Isaiah lviii. D. 6. 6. & 9. I. P. C.
OME away from the train of the thoughtless and vain,
And rejoice in the Sabbath of rest: On this festival day,
Come exulting away,
And re-echo the songs of the blest!
