5 But if Thy wisdom should decree
An early sepulchre for me,
Father, Thy will be done!
On Thy dear bosom I rely;
And if I live, or if I die,
O leave me not alone!

Matt. viii. 11.

C.M.

MYFsible, be rais'd to Thee,

Father, hear the humble prayer

Thy word has bid me cast my care
On Him who cares for me.

2 A sinner, Lord, I know I am;
But, when I suffer pain,

Thy word directs me to the Lamb
Who was for sinners slain.

3 0 help me, Saviour, to repose

On Thine own gracious word

"All things shall work for good to those Who fear and love the Lord."

4 If Thou should'st life and health renew,
And strength to me restore,

With richer grace my soul endue,
To serve Thee evermore.

THE LORD JESUS CHRIST.

Acts ii. 22.

EHOLD the Redeemer of man;

B He comes with unspeakable love,

Performing the wonderful plan
Devised when in glory above.

2 How pity and love are combined
In Jesus, the sinner's best Friend;
The cripple, the deaf, and the blind,
The helpless, He deigns to attend.

3 The dead hear His powerful voice,
And Satan releases his prey;
The widow is made to rejoice,-
He speaks, and the devils obey.

4 The cities and villages hear

The gospel He liv'd to proclaim;
The fruits of His labour appear,
And thousands rejoice in His name.

5 O, let us poor sinners now flee
To Jesus for pardon and grace!
There's mercy for you and for me,-
For all who in truth seek His face.

WATTS.

DIN all the glorious names

Jof wisdom, love, and pow'r,

That ever mortals knew,

That angels ever bore;

All are too mean to speak His worth,
Too mean to set my Saviour forth.

2 But, O what gentle terms, What condescending ways, Does our Redeemer use

To teach His heav'nly grace!

Mine eyes with joy and wonder see
What forms of love He bears for me.

3 I love my Shepherd's voice; His watchful eye shall keep My wand'ring soul among

The thousands of His sheep;

He teeds His flock, He calls their names,
His bosom bears the tender lambs.

4 Jesus, my great High Priest,
Offered His blood and died;
My guilty conscience seeks
No sacrifice beside :

His powerful blood did once atone,
And now it pleads before the throne.

Matt. iv. 19.

C.M.

MONTGOMERY.

HEN Jesus left His Father's throne,
He chose a humble birth;

Like us, unhonour'd and unknown,
He came to dwell on earth.

2 Like Him, may we be found below
In wisdom's path of peace;
Like Him, in grace and knowledge grow,
As years and strength increase.

3 When Jesus into Salem rode,
The children sang around;

For joy they plucked the palms, and strewed
Their garments on the ground.

4 Hosanna, our glad voices raise,—
Hosanna to our King!

Should we forget the Saviour's praise,
The stones themselves might sing;

5 For we have learn'd to love His name :-
That name, divinely sweet,

May every pulse through life proclaim,
And our last breath repeat.

ET everlasting glories crown

WATTS.

Thy head, my Saviour and my Lord; Thy hands have brought salvation down, And writ the blessings in Thy word.

2 In vain the trembling conscience seeks
Some solid ground to rest upon;
With long despair the spirit breaks,
Till we apply to Christ alone.

3 How well Thy blessed truths agree!
How wise and holy Thy commands!
Thy promises how firm they be !

How firm our hope and comfort stands! 4 Should all the forms that men devise Assault my faith with treacherous art, I'd call them vanity and lies,

And bind the gospel to my heart.

[blocks in formation]

Earthly friends may fail and leave thee,
This day soothe, the next day grieve thee,
But this Friend will ne'er deceive thee,
Oh, how He loves!

2 Love this Friend who died to save thee,
Oh, how He loves!

On His hands He will engrave thee,
Oh, how He loves!

Think no more, then, of to-morrow,
Seek no other help to borrow,
Jesus carries all thy sorrow,

Oh, how He loves!
