AND OTHER SHORT POEMS, CHIEFLY ON SACRED SUBJECTS. BY SAMUEL HINDS, D. D. LONDON: B. FELLOWES, LUDGATE STREET. M DCCC XXXIV. 23452.47 1874, April 28. Bequest of has. Sumner, Hon. Pha, (H, U. 1830.) R. CLAY, PRINTER, BREAD-STREET-HILL. PREFACE. THIS little volume of Poems cannot lay claim to the merit of having been written with any uniformity of design. They are, with a few exceptions, a casual register of religious impressions and feelings-of a frame of mind, sometimes my own, sometimes that of others with whom I have sympathized. As a whole, they are tinged, perhaps, with a sadder colouring of thought than accords with the condition of Christians in general; but if, on this very account, they find readier access to the heart of the conscience-stricken sinner or the drooping mourner, they will accomplish the main purpose for which they are published.
