Began the preparation of this manual simply as a Burial vice, and for my own convenience. I had found no one just suited me. It was a trouble to select and arrange ia11y for each separate occasion. I wanted more va y. I did not like to carry two or three books with me, 1 of them being, perhaps, too large for the pocket. The it of reading some appropriate verses, as a part of the rice, increased this inconvenience. The desire to use fitting thoughts of extra-biblical writers increased it still 'e.
