LESSON XXI.

MONDAY.-Ex. xvi. 27.-And it came to pass, that there went out some of the people on the sabbath day for to gather, and they found none.

TUESDAY.-Ex. xvi. 28.-And the Lord said unto Moses, how long refuse ye to keep my commandments and my laws.

WEDNESDAY.-Jer. xvii. 21.-Thus saith the Lord, Take heed to yourselves, and bear no burden on the sabbath day, nor bring it in by the gates of Jerusalem.

THURSDAY.-Jer. xvii. 22.-Neither carry forth a burden out of your houses on the sabbath day, neither do ye any work, but hallow ye the sabbath day, as I commanded your fathers. FRIDAY.-Neh. xiii. 15.-In those days saw I in Judah some treading wine-presses on the sabbath, and bringing in sheaves, and lading asses; as also wine, grapes, and figs, and all manner of burdens, which they brought into Jerusalem on the sabbath day: and I testified against them in the day wherein they sold victuals. SATURDAY.-Neh. xiii. 17.-Then I contended with the nobles of Judah, and said unto them, What evil thing is this that ye do, and profane the sabbath day? SABBATH.-Neh. xiii. 21.-Then I testified against them, and said unto them, Why lodge ye about the wall? if ye do so again, I will lay hands on you. From that time forth came they no more on the Sabbath.

LESSON XXII.

MONDAY.-Gen. ii. 3.-And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

TUESDAY.—Ex. xxxi. 17.—It is a sign between me and the children of Israel forever: for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.

WEDNESDAY.-Acts xvii. 2.-And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures.

THURSDAY.-Isa. lviii. 14.-Then shalt thou delight thyself in the Lord; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.

FRIDAY.-Neh. ix. 14.—And madest known unto them thy holy sabbaths, and commandedst them precepts, statutes, and laws, by the hand of Moses thy servant:

SATURDAY.-Mark ii. 27.—And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:

SABBATH.-Mark ii. 28.-Therefore the Son of Man is Lord also of the sabbath.

MONDAY.-Lev. xxvi. 34.-Then shall the land enjoy her sabbaths, as long as it lieth desolate, and ye be in your enemies' land, even then shall the land rest, and enjoy her sabbaths.

TUESDAY.-Lev. xxvi. 35.-As long as it lieth desolate it shall rest; because it did not rest in your sabbaths, when ye dwelt upon it. WEDNESDAY.-Jer. xxv. 11.-And this whole land shall be a desolation, and an astonishment; and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years.

THURSDAY.-2 Chron. xxxvi. 20.-And them that had escaped from the sword carried he away to Babylon; where they were servants to him and his sons until the reign of the kingdom of Persia. FRIDAY.-2 Chron. xxxvi. 21.-To fulfil the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land had enjoyed her sabbaths: for as long as she lay desolate she kept sabbath, to fulfil threescore and ten years.

SATURDAY.-Hos. ii. 11.-I will also cause all her mirth to cease, her feast days, her new moons, and her sabbaths, and all her solemn feasts. SABBATH.-Lam. i. 7.--Jerusalem remembered, in the days of her affliction and of her miseries, all her pleasant things that she had in the days of old, when her people fell into the hand of the enemy, and none did help her: the adversary saw her, and did mock at her sabbaths.
