MONDAY.—Ps. XV. 3.—He that backbiteth not with his tongue, nor doeth evil to his neighbor, nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbor. TUESDAY.—Luke iii. 14.—And the soldier likewise demanded of him, saying, And what shall we do? And he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither accuse any falsely, and be content with your wages. WEDNESDAY.-Prov. xii. 22-Lying lips are abomination to the Lord: but they that deal truly are his delight.

THURSDAY.-Deut. xix. 15.-One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth : at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established.

FRIDAY.—Prov. xvii. 15.—He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the Lord. SATURDAY.—Lev. xix. 16.—Thou shalt not go up and down as a tale-bearer among thy people; neither shalt thou stand against the blood of thy neighbor: I am the Lord.

SABBATH.-James iv. Ĭ1.—Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.

MONDAY.-Acts vi. 13.-And set up false witnesses which said, This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law:

TUESDAY.-1 Sam. xxii. 9.-Then answered Doeg the Edomite, which was set over the servants of Saul, and said, I saw the son of Jesse coming to Nob, to Ahimelech the son of Áhitub: WEDNESDAY.-1 Sam. xxii. 10.—And inquired of the Lord for him, and gave him victuals, and gave him the sword of Goliath the Philistine.

THURSDAY.-Gen. iii. 5.-For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened; and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

FRIDAY.-Ps. 1. 20.-Thou sittest and speakest against thy brother; thou slanderest thine own mother's son.

SATURDAY.-Jer. xxxviii. 4.-Therefore the princess said unto the king, We beseech thee, let this man be put to death: for thus he weakenest the hands of the men of war that remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words unto them for this man seeketh not the welfare of this people, but the hurt. SABBATH.-Isa. xxviii. 22.-Now therefore be ye not mockers, lest your bands be made strong: for I have heard from the Lord God of hosts a consumption, even determined upon the whole earth.

MONDAY.-Ex. xx. 17.-Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's house; thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife; nor his man servant, nor his maid servant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor anything that is thy neighbor's. TUESDAY.-Jer. vi. 13.-For from the least of them even unto the

greatest of them every one is given to covetousness; and from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely. WEDNESDAY.-Ezek. xxxiii. 31.-And they come unto thee as the people cometh, and they sit before thee as my people, and they hear thy words, but they will not do them: for with their mouth they show much love, but their heart goeth after their covetousness. THURSDAY.-Rom. i. 29.-Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers.

FRIDAY.-2 Tim. iii. 2.-For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous boasters, proud, blasphemous, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy.

SATURDAY.-Prov. xxviii. 16.-The prince that wanteth understanding is also a great oppressor: but he that hateth covetousness shall prolong his days.

SABBATH-1 Tim. vi. 5.-Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.

LESSON L.

MONDAY-Phil. iv. 11.-Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. TUESDAY.-1 Tim. vi. 6.-But godliness with contentment is great gain.

WEDNESDAY.-1 Tim. vi. 8.—And having food and raiment, let us be therewith content.

THURSDAY.—Luke xii. 15.—And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.

FRIDAY.-Prov. xxx. 8.-Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches, feed me with food convenient for

me:

SATURDAY.-Hab. iii. 17.-Although the fig-tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines: the labor of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls.

SABBATH.-Hab. iii. 18.-Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation.

MONDAY.-James iv. 2.-Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.

TUESDAY.-James iv. 3.-Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

WEDNESDAY.-Ps. Ixxviii. 18.-And they tempted God in their heart by asking meat for their lust.

THURSDAY.-PS. lxxviii. 29.-So they did eat, and were well filled : for he gave them their own desire;

FRIDAY.-1 Sam. ii. 16.—And if any man said unto him, Let them not fail to burn the fat presently, and then take as much as thy soul desireth; then he would answer him, nay; but thou shalt give it me now and if not, I will take it by force.

SATURDAY.-Acts xix. 27.—So that not only this our craft is in danger to be set at naught; but also that the temple of the great goddess Diana should be despised, and her magnificence should be destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worshippeth.

SABBATH.-1 Kings xxi. 4.—And Ahab came into his house heavy and displeased, because of the word which Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken to him: for he said, I will not give thee the inheritance of my fathers. And he laid him down upon his bed, and turned away his face, and would eat no bread.
