Then said I, O, to mount away,
And leave this clog of heavy clay!
Let wings of time more hasty fly,
That I may join the songs on high.

PART II.

Love: as taught in God's Perfect Law.

THIS part is styled Love, because this term comprises the sum of the Moral Law; because every one of the Ten Commandments proceeds from love, tends to love, and is perfected in love; and because, wherever the law of God fills every heart in any community, that community is lovely and happy. So is an individual: as it is written, "He that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him." 1 John iv. 16. This is heaven-and heaven is on earth where love is, for God is love. Even the penalty of the law of God is love; because it is a wall, built everywhere around holy beings to prevent their ruin: as a most affectionate father builds a battlement around the roof of his house to keep his children from falling. The Law of God is, in fact, the transcript of his infinite moral nature; for as God, în every attribute is infinite, so every attribute is infinite love. So this part is thus named Love, to keep this delightful thought always before the mind.

MISCELLANY, NO. VI.

Dr. Watts' Advice to Youth.

ECCLES. XII.

Now in the heat of youthful blood,
Remember your Creator, God;

Behold the months come hastening on,
When you shall say, My joys are gone.

Behold, the aged sinner goes,

Laden with guilt and heavy woes,

Down to the regions of the dead,

With endless curses on his head.

The dust returns to dust again,
The soul, in agonies of pain,

Ascends to God, not there to dwell,

But hears her doom, and sinks to hell.

Eternal King, I fear thy name,

Teach me to know how frail I am; And when my soul must hence remove, Give me a mansion in thy love.

Sum of the Ten Commandments.

With all thy soul love God above,
And as thyself thy neighbor love.
